It didn't hurt that it was on sale as well, so it was an even easier decision. This is a very well made helmet. Great protection and the padding on the inside is very comfortable. I didn't measure my sons head before purchase, but I did use his hat size, so I knew it would fit. What I wasn't counting on was how tight the back piece was/is. Once the helmet is on, it is super comfortable, but getting it on and off isn't as easy as some of the other helmets I've seen. My son doesn't reach up and toss this one off, as I don't think he can. The back plate comes attached with two elastic straps, and I think I have loosened them as much as they will go, but it's still snug. I've seen other players with this exact helmet, and they can take it off really quickly. So either I'm missing something, or the straps just need to break in a little more; I'm not sure. Other than that, at $100, this was a fabulous helmet for my son's first year of catching. I chose this one because it had the most full fit around my face and the best site lines, including being able to see up a little higher than the others. I'm an adult with a small 7 1/8 head, so going with a Youth seemed a risk, but it paid off.
