Buy No Longer Human (Junji Ito) 1 by Ito, Junji (ISBN: 9781974707096) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Junji Ito, my fave master of horror manga AAA*** - This graphic novel is a harrowing exploration of the human psyche, depicted through Ito’s signature unsettling artistry and profound storytelling based on true events! "No Longer Human" chronicles the life of Yozo Oba, a man who feels perpetually disconnected from the society around him. This sense of alienation begins in his childhood and deepens as he grows older, leading him down a path of self-destruction and despair. Yozo’s life is marked by a series of tragic events and personal failures, exacerbated by his inability to form genuine connections with others. Junji Ito’s artwork is nothing short of mesmerizing. His ability to capture the grotesque and the beautiful in the same frame is unparalleled. In "No Longer Human," Ito’s illustrations amplify the emotional weight of Yozo's story, making the reader feel the protagonist's anguish and hopelessness. The detailed expressions and haunting imagery create a visual experience that is as disturbing as it is captivating. The adaptation remains faithful to Dazai’s exploration of existential dread and social alienation. Yozo Oba is a complex character, whose internal conflicts and descent into madness are portrayed with a nuanced sensitivity. Ito delves deep into themes of identity, mental illness, and the human condition, making the reader question what it means to be 'normal' or 'human.' The graphic novel does not shy away from depicting the darker aspects of Yozo’s life, including his substance abuse and suicidal tendencies, offering a raw and unfiltered look at his troubled existence! Reading "No Longer Human" is an intense emotional journey. Ito’s adaptation is not just a horror story but a profound commentary on the fragility of the human spirit. The narrative’s unrelenting descent into despair is both heartbreaking and thought-provoking. It challenges the reader to empathize with Yozo despite his many flaws, and to reflect on their own experiences of alienation and despair. Junji Ito’s "No Longer Human" is a masterful adaptation that transcends the boundaries of horror and psychological drama. It is a compelling exploration of a troubled soul, rendered with exquisite artistry and deep emotional insight. Whether you are a fan of Ito’s previous works or new to his storytelling, this graphic novel is a must-read, offering a haunting and unforgettable experience. In sum, "No Longer Human" by Junji Ito is a tour de force that vividly brings Osamu Dazai's poignant narrative to life. It stands as a testament to Ito’s prowess as a storyteller and an artist, solidifying his place as one of the most innovative voices in contemporary manga. Review: Great book and story! - My boyfriend finished this book immediately. He really loves it.

Amazing
Great adaption of No Longer Human. It deviates from the book a little but it doesn't really matter. Ito's artwork is amazing and if you are a fan of the Osamu Dazai's book and Ito's artwork I highly recommend this

Compelling story brilliantly told by Ito.
I've read a lot of Ito and really love his work, but this feels like the first really adult book of his. I didn't think his adaptation of Shelly's Frankenstein really worked - the story just didn't really fit with Ito's style. This however feels like a perfect synergy - it's not like anything Ito has done before and yet it really works, I think because some of the characters and events in the story are so grotesque, and Ito is a master of the grotesque. Ito's art is, as ever, incredible. The story really is bleak, and it feels weird to say I enjoyed it...but I was absolutely hooked throughout. Apparently the novel by Dazai is the second bestselling novel ever in Japan!?

It was quite dirty, but it is a white book afterall
The book came quite dirty, dirty enough for me to question if i should return it or not. Instead i proceeded to try clean the dirt off the book and i was successful. Its a white book so you should reconsider if you want to buy it.

One of Junji Ito's best.
I can't put into words what i felt when i turned over the last page and closed this book after reading it straight all the way through for 3 and a half hours, this book will leave you feeling hollow and with a lot of questions about the human relationships you've made throughout your life, at least i did, this is not a negative but a major plus - not many manga have left me with moral and existential questions, but Junji Ito succeeds with this almost every time, i highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Ito's work or with an interest in social and existential philosophy. Tragic fact: did you know that the author of the original novel Osamu Dazai actually ended up ending his life just like it's depicted in the manga? making the novel one of the best selling suicide notes of all time.. sleep tight. Side-note: i see that a lot of people have been delivered copies with a filthy dust jacket, if yours have black marks or streaks on it, then i can confirm that these scrub away by simply (carefully) rubbing a damp cloth on them, leaving your book looking as it should.
