Tomb Raider Underworld- First Impressions
I remember playing all the old Tomb Raider games and I really enjoyed them. However I haven't played some of the later games because they just weren't as good as the beginning ones. Now I can say that Lara is truly back and the game is terrific. The graphics are much improved and Lara is quite the hot chick. Controls are easy to use on the PC and you can turn on aids that help you use the right ones. The puzzles make you think but are not too difficult. If you've played the old TR games then they shouldn't be too hard to figure out. However if you've never played any of her games then they might seem difficult. The treasures that Lara finds are so far not hidden and are out in the open, unless of course there are some I haven't found. This is one of the complaints I had about the game that the treasures are all the same and the game doesn't tell you what you found. The AI could be tweaked some more because the enemies don't really come at you aggressively. If you lay back they leave you alone and there are some areas where they won't follow you. Also, so far using a Windows Vista Quad Chip and a Nvidia 8500gt, the game did crash twice which surprised me since the game had been up to then very stable and easy to use. The puzzles could have been a little harder to solve but you do have to think about ways to do things. There are no issues with DRM and the game automatically resumes to the last game saved. All in all a very good game that relates to the Lara of the past. A definite buy. After playing the game for a few days now I have to say that it is better than I thought it would be. There are some obstacles I had trouble figuring out and had to go to a website for help. I noticed that there were quite a few people who were stumped. Also there are some controls that you have to learn how to master. So it's not that easy which makes the game even better and more challenging. I'm really enjoying it.

A pretty good TR game for the DS.
Tomb Raider: Underword is a pretty good game for the DS. It's much better than the DS version of Tomb Raider: Legend. In Underworld, Lara is 3D modeled (in Legend she's only a series of flat sprites) and her animations are done very well. Navigating the environments is satisfying because the controls are good and responsive. Combat too is handled well in this game. Lara can lock-on, jump over enemies, slide under them, and do melee attacks. Lara can discover artifacts, but unfortunately all the artifacts are the same object. She can also find treasure chests. A puzzle must be solved to open them, and every puzzle solved unlocks items in the extra menu. Overall it's a good game, but there are a few problems. For one, the game is too dark. Even with the brightness turned all the way up, this game is difficult to see unless you're playing it in a dark room. I don't understand why the developer made the game so dark, because this wasn't an issue with the DS version of Tomb Raider: Legend. Another thing to point out: about half of this game is loading screens. There are a lot of them and they are long. The game even has to load a single screen with nothing but stats on it. It's annoying, yes, but I guess that's the price we pay for a game to look good on the DS. Another minor annoyance I have with the game has to do with the level stats. When you go to select a level to replay, it shows you how many of the artifacts you have found in the level, but it doesn't show you whether or not you have found the treasure chest. You do find this out at the end of the level (on a stats screen that takes 20 seconds to load), but it would be nice to know this during level selection so I can focus on what I haven't found yet. This game is an abbreviated version of Underworld. It does not contain all the cutscenes in the original game, and in some levels Lara has completely different objectives. But I think Santa Cruz Games did a pretty good job on this game. I would love to see a "remastered" version of this game on a more powerful handheld console.

EVEN BETTER THAN TOMB RAIDER 2013!
This installment in the Tomb Raider series was, for me, more demanding and much more expansive than TOMB RAIDER 2013, although that game, too, was superlative and very difficult. twists and turns of plot abounded throughout the game, but the player finally gets an idea who's behind all of the evil when he reaches the ship full of cargo labeled: ATLA. The hardest parts of this game were the timed sequences which caused one to want to pull his hair out! The graphics, for 2008, were extremely well done, and my hat is off to EIDOS and its superb staff of engineers, testers, production people, graphics, voice and music divisions for a job done far beyond the call of duty. Lara was beautiful, as she was in TR 2013, and she could really jump, evade, grapple, swing and kill off enemies. This game was very tastefully done, with no excessive gore or blood and no brutality. It was done the way games should be done, and I only wish there were more Tomb Raider games available. Right now, all I have left to play in this genre are LARA CROFT AND THE GUARDIAN OF LIGHT, which I don't care for due to camera angles and other problems which I won't get into, and TOMB RAIDER: LEGEND. And, although the graphics in LEGEND are all right, it seems to be missing the mystery and pizzazz of UNDERWORLD and 2013. These games (TR UNDERWORLD and TR 2013) were the greatest I have ever played, and I recommend them highly to anyone who cares to "take the plunge."

Fun but not for everyone...
Tomb Raider is one of those enduring titles in the video game world that just doesn't seem to want to die. Unlike many other series, the Tomb Raider games have seen many changes to the video game industry and have many new interpretations at to what exactly the series will look like. Tomb Raider Underworld continues with the same graphics and imagery as Tomb Raider Legend but, unlike Legend, it is missing some of the fun and excitement that used to be characteristic of the game. I am not trying to say this is a bad game but, usually, Tomb Raider games are made with some sort of new edge to attract those new to the series into buying the game. Underworld however, was definitely a game made for the fans. There is almost no tutorial to this game whatsoever and instead, they expect you to remember the controls used in Legend and Anniversary (Games I played over four and two years ago respectively, so learning the controls was a bit of a challenge). Additionally, I found the first level to be almost the hardest level in the game and to me this doesn't make sense. While the graphics are great, the porting to the PC was not done as nicely as those to the PS3 of XBOX 360. The controls are a little hard to handle and sometimes the camera angle that you want to drift into just turns out to be wacked. Overall, a nice game but I've come to expect more from the Tomb Raider series then just a continuation off there last game.

Best Tomb Raider so far.
The game itself reminds me a lot of Anniversary, its well done. Now the game does have SecuRom but its the light version so I have no trouble with it, the only thing it ask you is to have the dvd disc in the dvd tray. I have encounter some bugs there are but in the graphics, very minimal though. At the beginning of the installation it ask you if you the game to save automatically which explains why it wont let you rewrite on the automatic save. It gives you one save file you can pretty much over write as much as you want. The graphics look great I mean for a game that came up in 08 I believe not bad at all. I'm running this game on a AMD A8 3870K with 8g of ram ddr3 1600Mhz in 1080, If there is one thing that bugs me is when I play the game for some reason it disconnects me from my wifi. It loses my router's connection, it takes bit for it to find it again. All I have to do to somewhat fix the issue is to play with the wifi adapter disconnected once I finish playing all I have to do it reconnect and problem solve. I haven't install the patch even though the patch doesn't seem to address my issue. Overall it's a very solid game with some minor bugs. Yes I would recommend this game if you are Tomb raider follower even if you are casual gamer.

Thrilling, Challenging, and totally worth it
I, like many, have enjoyed the adventure of the Tomb Raider series, it's had ups and downs but this title is everything you'd want it to be. Our ninja-esque heroine Lara Croft is as attractive as ever and has everything she needs to succeed. You remember the wolves and bears and raptors? How about tigers, jaguars, giant spiders, undead tigers and warriors, and a kraken. (btw Thor had some sweet gadgets which you'll be searching the globe for) Plenty of puzzle solving and precise timing will keep you busy. I would say get this game if you have ever thought Tomb Raider was cool. You'll have a blast with Thor's hammer. oh, and the plot is really fun and creative, it's nice to see such depth in a game these days, they actually did some research into history and didn't just make up their own planet with whatever they wanted. of course, they did take some creative liberties, but hey that's what makes it fun.

Excellent game at a great price!!!
Well, this game is excellent, not as great as the original Tomb Raider but it is great! Shipping was excellent for both the packaging and the time it took to arrive! The only reason why I didn't give it 5***** is because ironically yesterday, while I was playing it for about 3 hours, all of a sudden the game had a problem and my PC is a very high-end one so it was impossible that the PC was not working well, so it was the game that had to stop and in this game there are checkpoints were the game automatically saves the data, but because of what happened for some reason it didn't save and believe me, with a game that takes such a long time to make any progress as this one when it crashes it is a very frustrating thing... Anyways, the game is excellent, I really like it and have fun playing it and Amazon did great with both the price and packaging so I can't complain more... Btw, what happened with the game after it crashed didn't happen again, which is great and now I am more cautious and save the game manually every time I do something of importance...

The WORST game so far in the Tomb Raider series
I've been a fan of the Tomb Raider franchise since the beginning. I usually don't write reviews for anything, but in this case I will make an exception because this game is TERRIBLE! I'm very disappointed in the "Tomb Raider: Underworld" PS2 game in every aspect. I hated "Tomb Raider: Legend" as well (part 1 of this storyline), but not enough to write a negative review on it. Despite the fact that the PS2 version was pretty much "slapped together," I doubt that the PS3 version is any better. The whole substance of this game is just awful. Oh, where do I start? Here is a list of why this game is so terrible: * There are SO many bugs! Lara constantly gets stuck in walls when you're trying to jump to ledges, etc. Also, the graphics are horrible and sometimes when you'd run down a corridor to bring you to a new room in a level, all the graphics didn't totally load and you had to wait for them to appear 100% before you could look around the room. * All the levels in this game are just obstacles to get from one end to the other - no challenging puzzles like in the old games, the levels were all just aggravating and annoying! It's almost like it would be only one annoying level and you'd be hoping that the good levels would be coming up, but they never did. * There are no good puzzles! There were a few but they were too easy and really stupid and pointless. I loved how in the older TR games where the puzzles would be really challenging and really make you think, and once you figured it out you felt really smart and accomplished, but not in this game! * All the levels were re-used throughout the game, they are so cheap! They are WAY too short and all redundant. The game was short the way it is, and as the story in the game continued, it brought you back to previous levels that you've already been to. Very disappointing! I'm so used to the enormous and expanded levels of the older TR games where you could really go exploring and find some cool artifacts and stuff. * The controls and camera work are absolutely AWFUL! The controls are delayed when you push the buttons to move Lara, and the camera views ware terrible when you're trying to run and jump or perform a certain action. So many times I made a hard jump on a small landing surface only to have Lara keep moving and walking off the ledge. She usually stops on a dime in the older TR games, but not here. * For most of this game, all Lara does is "jump" in the level, and she doesn't jump good on top of it all. The jumping controls are terrible and delayed. * The level design is so terrible and unimaginative and "cheap" - most of the levels are composed of just long corridors weaving left and right and there is nothing else to them - no substance or imagination to the levels! Also, all of the levels look the same as you're playing them - SO many times I thought I was back-tracking in a level but I was going the correct way, the rooms in the levels are just so cheap and all look identical. It seems so amateurish like a college student made this for their senior project or something. I just can't believe professional video game developers made this game!! * There was a temple in one level that was totally pointless! There was nothing there for Lara to pick up and you wasted your time playing it. Of all the other Tomb Raider games, I've NEVER had an instance where there was a playable temple or building and there wasn't anything for you to find important inside. * Lara barely had to use her guns for anything in this game. Isn't that the whole point? When she did actually get to use her guns, it was hard to control. The ONLY cool thing about the guns in this game is that she can do dual targeting, which came in handy a few times. * In older TR games, Lara would look over at something in the level important and stare at it to help you proceed in the level. In this game, she only did that with the gold bars, which are secret packages, that aren't important in collecting because you don't need them to beat the game. * There are too many cut scenes, and they are pointless! They do a lot of the work for you. * The animation is crappy and choppy during actual gameplay. * The steering for the motorbike is also TERRIBLE and it used to be the best part of all the Lara games, getting to drive all the awesome vehicles. * When Lara dies, they put you back to the start of the level - there aren't enough checkpoints for you to save at in the right spots. Usually if you've cleared a part of a level, the checkpoint would start and save your game right before the next portion of a level, but not this game. * The grappling hook and adrenaline rush seem useless and are barely used, it seems like they forgot to use them and just threw them into the game last minute to for the sake of having them in the game. * The storyline for this game (and for "TR Legend") is inaccurate to the original Lara Croft storyline when the video game series started. Originally, the story tells that Lara took a plane ride with her parents and it crashed over the mountain, killing everyone except Lara. Stranded alone on the mountain, Lara took care of herself and braved the wilderness, which made her really strong and interested in becoming an archaeologist and adventuring. Now, like in the Tomb Raider movies where they changed Lara's back story, in the new games they are saying that both of Lara's parents were also adventurers, but this isn't true, they were both aristocrats. Lara became interested in artifacts and adventuring on her own after the plane crash, not her parents! I hope the next Tomb Raider game will go back to being good again, like "Tomb Raider Anniversary." The game developers have even better technology to make the Lara games like they used to be, when they did a remake of the original "Tomb Raider game." I feel like replaying "Anniversary" because "Underworld" was so terrible and disappointing. Don't waste your money or time on this game, you'll be very disappointed!
