I will admit that I didn't go to the car wash as much as I should have (washing off that salt is important), but it was obvious that the running boards had the worst rust on the car. Once I bought my Subaru, I was determined to stave off rust as long as possible, so I thought I'd give heavy duty rally mud flaps a try. After having the mud flaps on for a few months now (before and during a snowy winter), I can say that I'm extremely happy with my purchase. So far I've had no stray rocks hit or scratch the side of my car, and I have yet to see ANY slush/snow caked to the fender or bottom of my doors. This is exactly what I was hoping for!As for the flaps themselves, they are thick and strong, but pliable, which as far as I can tell, helps stop projectile rocks from damaging the car body or the flaps, where I'd expect stiffer plastic flaps to either crack, warp, or break quickly. The flaps are also long enough that I wouldn't worry whether they can be mounted low enough to provide ample coverage. These flaps are pretty wide, so they stick out the side of the fender a bit, but this seems to help deflect rocks, and it actually looks pretty cool. As stated before, I didn't install these flaps myself (since they didn't come with any mounting hardware), but after having watched them be installed, it looks as though they can be easily mounted with four screws and nuts for each flap (pictures to follow). Lastly, I've heard people mention that some flaps warp after years of use (especially with rough winters and driving/rallying on dirt roads), but after about 5 months of use with my set, there's been absolutely zero warping, and have yet to see any signs of it. They are easy to clean and haven't faded or cracked yet.
