THE LAST ICE CUBE TRAY YOU'LL EVER BUY... AND HERE'S WHY
This is Oxo's second try at a covered ice cube tray. I previously bought the first version (which is still being sold at half the price of this new one), and while I thought it was the best of what was out there, it was still prone to spills and therefore messy to refill. But as they say, "if you don't succeed at first..." and Oxo has delivered ice cube tray perfection this time around. Seriously--if you need ice cube trays then just stop reading now and go buy this. But for those who'd like to know why it's so great, I'll tell you: 1) The anti-spill lid works easily and exactly as advertised: fill the tray, smooth the lid down with your hand, tilt the tray to pour off excess water and you're ready to go. It simply does not leak after that, even when you tilt it beyond Oxo's recommended maximum angle. Honestly, I questioned if this system really could work, and it's like watching a magic trick. Very impressive solution! 2) The silicone lid protects against evaporation and freezer odors, lifts easily when you need to get cubes, and reseals the tray just as easily. 3) The new lid gives the trays a lower height than other trays, so you can stack more in the same amount of space. I can now fit five trays in the same space where I could only fit four of the old Oxo trays. Also, the ability to store a newly filled tray at an angle give you additional options for more storage. 4) The no spill system also works well if you just want to partly refill a tray to replace a few missing cubes. Bottom Line: this tray is the next best thing to having an automatic ice maker. If there's a way to improve it, I have no idea what that would be. Bravo, Oxo, for taking another swing at this product and hitting this one out of the park! Thanks for taking the time to read my review and I hope you find it helpful in making a purchase decision.

The best ice cube tray you will EVER buy!
I am a huge ice fan... my friends actually tease me about it all the time. We have a fridge that makes ice but we have had it repaired 11 times in the past 12 years. After spending $150 to $200 each time, I finally refused to pay for it again. This meant I had to go on a ice cube tray research exhibition. ;-) I looked and read the reviews for several ice cube trays. I finally stumbled upon a video that compared about 5 ice cube trays and the OXO Good Grip No Spill Ice Cube Tray was by far the best one. I purchased five trays and the Rubbermaid Ice Bin to put them in once they were frozen. Now that I've made a few rounds of ice... here goes. At first, it is somewhat awkward dealing with the silicone lid that covers the tray after filled with water. But, by the time I filled the 5th tray, I was already getting the hang of it. The video on Amazon makes it look very easy, but for me I didn't want to use the faucet. Instead, I poured water from our filtered water line in the door of our fridge and then I poured that in the ice cube trays. I am sure filling it over the sink would have been much easier but that didn't really work for my situation. Once the tray was filled I had carefully placed the lid over it and moved it over the sink to make sure any of the excess water would drain off. When I tilted the tray to let the water drain, many times it would drain all or most of the water from one or both of the first two ice cubes. I found that when this happened I just did not have it sealed correctly. Once they were all filled, I moved them to the freezer stacking them up on each other. Each time I did this there was no spillage so that part worked great. THE PROBLEM: Since I stacked all five of them on top of each other I had issues with two of the five trays. Tray one and two was great. You barely have to twist the tray and the cubes come out very easy. You can either push on the ice cube and it rocks right out of the tray or you can dump it over an ice bin or bowl. The problem happened with trays three and four. In both cases after 12 hours, these trays were not frozen. But, tray five was frozen. I think having them all on top of each other diminishes the amount of cold that can get to those two trays. That is why tray 5 can freeze cause it has nothing underneath it. So, if you are wanting to make a lot of ice, I would suggest trying to stack no more than three at a time. Another possible issue is space. I really wanted to put this on a specific shelf but the freezer door would not shut. For me, the problem was the part of the freezer that drops the ice down sticks out causing the tray to hit it. So, I had to move things around in the freezer and there is really only one shelf I can put the trays on. We have a side-by-side fridge/freezer which means it a narrow space. So, if you need an ice cube tray and you are tired of doing the balancing act, this tray will keep the water in and the freezer smells out. As long as you don't stack too many at one time, you will LOVE this tray.

THEY JUST WORK! GENIUS!!!
My refrigerator does not have an ice maker (my choice, they are just another point of failure in my opinion). The bottom freezer on my French door refrigerator makes it a little tricky to place traditional ice cube trays in without spillage. These ice cube trays are genius. You can tip and tilt these and they don't spill. Perfect for my use. I've had these for almost 2 years now. They just work! Highly recommend!!!

Greatest invention since the wheel ~ The Rolls Royce of ice cube trays
When I think about the amount of time that I spent looking for the best ice cube tray, I ask myself if I've lost my mind. Knowing that it took me longer to find the perfect tray, than it took me to buy my last car or house, confirms that I've delved beyond the limits of sanity. It seems that every time I embark on a product searching mission that should take all of 5 minutes, I end up spending hours before locating exactly what I want. The mission that led me to this ice cube tray exceeded all limits of rationale. Now, having actually put it to use, I can say without question that my research was worth it all. Like a high performance automobile, or the rarest of diamonds in the world, this ice cube tray elicits a euphoria that I haven't felt in years. It's design and performance rivals inventions on exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. If there were an ice cube tray hall of fame, this would be in it. The laws of physics come into play in the design of this product. The functionality is simple, yet truly unique. When I demonstrated its use to my wife, she was in awe. The problem with ordinary ice cube trays is twofold. First, since they're fully exposed to the air in your freezer, the ice absorbs odors from surrounding foods. Second, since the trays are uncovered, it's very difficult to put them in your freezer without spilling water on the floor. The OXO Good Grips No-Spill Ice Cube Tray solves both issues. To use, you simply fill the tray with water. Next, you pull the silicone cover over the tray. Than, you press the edges of the silicone cover to ensure a good seal. Once done, you tilt the tray and release any extra water. There's a special drainage channel running around the edges of the tray enabling you to do the above. After following these steps, you place the tray in your freezer at any angle, since the silicone cover seal prevents water from leaking out. Once the ice cubes are ready, you peel back the silicone cover and remove as many cubes as you desire. It's easy to remove one at a time, or all of them at once. To remove one at a time, press the outer edge of a cube. Due to its rounded bottom, it will instantly come out of the tray. To remove more than one, you can either do the above one at a time, or slightly twist the entire tray. Doing so will release all of the cubes. The ice cube tray is dishwasher safe and is designed to last. As you can tell, I'm very fond of this product. It enables me to obtain odor free ice cubes, saves space in the freezer, and results in no water spills on the floor. This is the greatest invention since the wheel!

Fun and Functional - Tips and Tricks for this Amazing Tray
I liked it so much ordered another two for a total of four and I'll tell you why in a moment. First, I really appreciate the silicon flap. It makes stacking a breeze and keeps the cubes fresh. There is nothing more annoying than ice cubes that become stale after sitting in the freezer for quite some time. The silicon flap prevents that from happening. That being said, here are some tips and tricks. Remember to push on the top of one side of the cube and it will rotate and release, effortlessly, like the crescent cubes in a typical crescent style automatic ice maker. Next, the silicone tops helps these stack very nicely, without spillage. Finally, I use these to freeze fresh squeezed lemon juice and one cube is the perfect size for a 16-20 oz glass of water. Fresh squeezed lemon juice can be very healthy and detoxifying. The problem is who wants to deal with the daily mess of preparing, knowing that the juice has no preservatives and goes bad after a couple of days in the refrigerator. These trays enable me to make several large baggies of frozen lemon cubes. I buy large bags of lemons at Costco, use the Bellmain lemon squeezer also sold on Amazon, although some of the motorized ones might be nice (especially after squeezing about 20-30 lemons), and after squeezing into a pyrex measuring cup I pour the juice into the trays. Done and good to go. After frozen, I transfer into a ziplock although with these trays, that probably isn't necessary owing to the top. A great assembly line operation that sets me up with 64 cubes...a months supply at two per day. Note that when using the press, I get the most by turning the lemon over and squeezing both ways. Cleaning this tray is a snap. Just pull off the silicone, mounted on one end with press tabs, and away you go. The size, shape, number (14/tray), and ease of removal make this a real winner. The silicone top shifts this to a whole new gear. Try one, and get ready to order more. Watching the show of how these cubes so easily release (no hot water on the back of the tray needed) is worth the order alone. :)

Who would have thought I'd get so excited over an ice tray?
This ice tray is absolutely amazing. The soft silicone cover helps keep out smells and, if you're freezing food, keeps out freezer burn. It also makes it easy to carry the full the freezer without sloshing. And yes, it can be tilted at a slight angle in the freezer so you don't have to empty a flat shelf if you're short on space. More on my tests in a moment, but first, the basics: I purchased two of these, and use them mainly for storing staples I make in advance, such as chicken stock used in sauces and saffron water, which I use to flavor Moroccan dishes. This tray is also also really fabulous for storing egg whites. I freeze my items then pop them in a ziploc bag. Whenever I need some, I just take out what I need and it defrosts quickly. Each cube holds 1.5 Tablespoons of fluid. That's one small to medium egg white. With my large eggs, three eggs fits in four cubes. I also tested this with water a couple times just for the purposes of the review, even though I have an ice maker in my fridge. So here's how it works: With water, or chicken stock or whatever you use, when you fill this ice tray, the liquid spills out in a canal-like ridge around the perimeter tray. When I'm freezing something like chicken stock, there is slight wastage in the canal but of course the same fluid would have just dripped in the sink or on the counter if it wasn't there. There is a slight advantage to this feature--if you're pouring something in and you're not over a sink, the slosh goes into the canal and not on your counter or floor. In doing my testing, I sealed the silicone top (you punch down on two little tabs and then smooth it with your hand--a pretty easy process). For testing purposes, I dried the entire outside of the tray so I could see leaks. Then I tilted the tray over the sink to see how well it held. Every time (and I did this about a dozen times with different fluids) the fluid stayed tight in the tray when tilted until the angle hit about 45 degrees--and then it began to leak. For several of my tests, I stuffed the fill tray in the freezer in an available spot at about a 30 degree angle. No leakage problems...it's nice that if I don't feel like clearing a shelf I can put it in at a slight angle. The cubes came out easily for me as long as they were full. One time when I under filled the tray a bit the cubes were a bit difficult to get out. The product label says the product is dishwasher safe, but I noticed that the Amazon listing says the plastic tray only is top-rack safe. I am only putting the tray part in the dishwasher and I've just been rinsing the silicone cover.

This actually does what it says it will
I'm sure we're all gotten something that didn't live up to it's hype. Like easy start lawnmower - if you a 200 pound male body builder. Like the bra that's easy to get into and comfortable - if you're a size A cup and a contortionist. I could go on... The point is this ice cube tray works exactly as advertised. I have a small freezer and not enough space to stack conventional ice cube trays, No matter what direction I put it, it doesn't leak. I don't have to worry about getting it straight or level. If it's at an angle, no problem. While I wouldn't put it on its side, just about any other angle seems to work just fine. The ice cubes come out easily with a little twist of the tray and peeling off the silicone cover often pulls them out of the tray. This really works. It doesn't spill. You can put it at any angle (within reason!) in your freezer and it's not going to leak. I'm really impressed. I'm impressed enough that I bought another one. Finally something that works like it says it will. I'd give this one 10 stars if I could. Because you have no idea of all the things I've purchased that don't even come close to delivering on their claims. You really need to get this cube tray even if you have a lot of room in your freezer. It's that good. It's worth the money. Not a lot of things are. This is fantastic. Get one and you'll be hooked, too.

Ottimo prodotto

Best icecube trays ever
Why did I wait to long to get these. I put up with horrible ice cube trays for years. These are SO easy to get out it's laughable and never break into pieces. The only thing I find odd is that they are wider than nor al trays and you can't use the traditional "tilt technique" to fill them really. Other than that are fabulous.
