Wegiel Handmade Royal 36 European Chess Set - Wooden 14.2 Inch Board Hornbeam & Sycamore Pieces

This chess set is nice but it also has a hoaky component to it as the edge numbers/letters are burned in. It's well made overall, the box is made of wood and serves as a storage box with inlaid plastic places for the figurines. Not sure how it will hold up but for the money ~$35 it's very decent. Not sure where this set is made but it was definitely packaged for the European market. I would guess it was either made in former East Germany, Poland or Romania. It doesn't say on the packaging so probably in the former East Block and a European Union country. The felt is so so and like i said some components to it have a home made touch to it. I would recommend it for a daily game board but it's not fine dining. It's more like a decent quick lunch with no dessert. That's the best analogy I can make.

This chess set for the price is very decent. Although the letters and numbers that are carved into the board are a little sloppy, it can be unnoticed easily. The pieces are good quality and sized bigger than your generic chess board that comes with other board games. The only downside is the green felt of the pieces, they don't seem like they will last many years of continuous use, but they sure do look great and feel great on the chess pieces. Overall, this is one of the best beginner chess sets that I have used throughout my years of playing chess. I have been playing chess for almost eight years now, and would recommend this chess set for those who like the appeal of a wooden board, an easy carrying chess set, or just to have as decoration. I have had this for over two years now, and have yet to face any problems with the chess pieces, or the board itself.

All of the pieces of this chess set are well made and easily identifiable. No one would mistake them for really high quality pieces by any stretch, but they're certainly a step above your typical plastic pieces in terms of aesthetic. Especially nice is the fact that all the pieces fit neatly into the case formed when you close the board. Each piece has its own mini compartment instead of a dinky divot or strap. This ensures long term durability. There are two things I do not like. One is that the pieces are very light and the bottoms slippery. This means they move *very* easily if you bump the table. Not a huge problem, as chess isn't exactly a violent game. Usually. The second thing I don't like is that the wood used here is pretty low quality. The pieces are easily damaged, especially pieces with fragile parts like the kings and the queens. For the price, though, you'd be hard pressed to find a better option. Overall I'm quite happy with the purchase.

I play "correspondence" chess on my phone pretty regularly, and I was looking for a set for my apartment that I could have a physical representation of what was on my phone. I was debating between this set and the slightly smaller version (30cmx30cm) that is also on Amazon from the same vendor. I'm glad I got this one. It was a few extra dollars, but it looks great, and I'm not afraid that I'm going to accidentally knock over half the pieces with my fingers. The board is sturdy and looks like it has handmade touches. No idea if anything about it is actually handmade, but for about thirty bucks, looks like it is good enough. Minor issues: Some of the black (actually brown) pieces are significantly lighter (in color) than some of their counterparts. They're still obviously the black part, but are noticeably different. Also, the pieces are pretty light (in weight), so if you're looking for hefty pieces that won't get knocked around easily, look elsewhere. The thing that the pieces go into when you fold the board is a little unwieldy, but functional. Other than that, it's a great set to play with and looks great on my coffee table. Great board for the money!

This is a wonderful set. I would recommend it to any beginner or pro. I have to say,the handmade pieces are superbly crafted and i enjoy the look of them as well. I'm tired of the "run of the mill" chess design and wanted something more unique in the crafting. The pieces and board were made from farmed trees, so no environmental impact there, and there is a disclaimer on the box that no child labor was used in the creation. My initial reaction was "O-kayyy?" You just don't see that disclaimer on the sets you buy in america, that's all.Only negative is the piece storage area, underneath the board itself, feels cheesy, but for such a terrific price, such as this one, well worth the money spent.

First, the 6th photo of this set on Amazon is not the right set. The numbers and letters shown in that photo are very uniform and straight - unlike the actual set. But the first 5 are correct (shows the hand-burned letters/numbers). Cons: At first glance, the set looks hand-made - but in China. It is marked Poland. While some may appreciate the hand-made look, several of the pieces were obviously quickly hot-glue-gunned together and the pieces are not heavy enough to be stable. The felt is roughly cut and glued on. Latches are adequate. The green holders inside are very thin and in parts are almost worn through from shipping. The coordinates (letters and numbers on the board) are hand-burned and look kind of rough. Ok if you are into that sort of look. However, it looks like it was hand-burned into the wood hastily and not very uniform. Everything screams Chinese - but was made in Poland (at least that's what it says).... Pros: Considering that another wood portable set at 14" costs much more - I suppose this is a decent value. The face of the board looks nice - except the lettering/numbers. Has a unique look - compared to plastic/cardboard sets. Pieces are nicely carved - but tips are attached hot-glue in haste. Summary: If I saw it in a store - I'd pay no more than $20 for it. I'd wait for it to go on sale - or if you are serious about playing chess - spend another $20-30 and buy a nicer set that you can keep for a long time. This one doesn't look like it's going to hold up (especially the pieces) for a long time. It's not worth my time to return it and it's almost Christmas. I think my 9 year old will love it and won't analyze it like I did. When we're positive he's serious about chess - we'll get him a real nice keepsake set.

I was a little hesitant while I saw some negative reviews, and I don’t understand why people gave it negative reviews. I bought this chess set because it looked different than other typical ones and honestly this chess set is really nice, well made with wood and super affordable with prices compared to other wooden chess sets. This chess set is truly unique and is a superb gift idea. Me and my wife enjoy playing with this set. I would recommend this chess set 100%.

Our church has a Sunday Dinner Cafe once a month. We treat it as a family dinner with not only food but also games, private prayers (if desired), and sharing of clothing. I am the one who plays games. I had been playing chess but a boy wanted to play chess, so I needed a traveling chess set. I kept looking for one that would be substantial enough to be presentable. I got several but none of them were anything but cheesy plastic, and uber small pieces. This set is wonderful. It is inexpensive enough for my purpose and rich enough looking to be presentable.

Mejor ajedrez calidad/precio, muy recomendable un 10. Piezas acorde con el tablero a lo que respecta al tamaño. Ideal para regalar.

Great value for the price to get a handmade wooden chess set. There are some minor defects (misplaced/broken felt on one piece, wood scarring on a knight, badly burnt lettering) which only add to the hand-made charm, imo. Since this is not a perfectionist's set, my daughter and I can play without worrying too much about dents and scuffs. It looks really nice in person.

Quality is good, the after service and support is good well, wish you can be better and better
