The full lining really keeps out the -20 wind chill temps we've had already and it really does cover the ears really well. It's not a full coverage on the ears, though, not really 'flaps' that hang down but they (and my hair and well positioned scarf) keep my ears a lot more cozy than my regular knit hat ever did. I have really thick hair and my other knit hat would always ride up my head and I would always have to keep pulling it down. This one is heavy enough to fit snuggly where you place it and it stays put. It really is incredibly cute, too. It's nice to not look like a buddled up, frumpy mess while you're trying your best not to freeze to death in the Upper Midwest. Also, the fact that it is lined with fleece on the inside is really why I bought it.
