Would this be a bad choice for cutting thick hardwood? I will be cutting up to 2" thick oak. I suspect this saw wouldn't do it.

This saw could probably cut 2" oak, but a 220v table saw would be a much better choice.

Completely different, and far superior. Honestly, my ACS was a game changer. Incredible value in this system.

Can you buy a single track long enough to cut a sheet of plywood long ways ? Dewalt and festool make one. Will either of them work ?

I had to buy two tracks and coupling item. I don’t know if the others will work with Kreg Saw. I did use the Kreg Track and it worked very well for me.

Will saw work without the track?

It will work as a saw, but the track is what gives the advantage of very straight cuts. Also, the saw is a bit heavier than a standard handheld circular saw and might be a little more difficult to use. In addition, it is a plunge saw, and the track keeps it stable when you first engage the cut.
