The shades need to be twisted into a lock position so that they don't become flimsy and fall off. I'm guessing many people who had issues are not doing that correctly. And as for the heat, as long as you use CFL bulbs, you shouldn't run into this issue at all. I would not use traditional incandescent though as I can see how it would heat up.The quality isn't bad either for the price. The bottom was quite sturdy and heavy and it would be difficult to knock over. My gripe however comes with the positioning of the lights. They can't be set like the image displayed. The light bulbs are simply too heavy and will push them down facing the floor. There is a workaround if you turn the bulbs to their side in which case the weight doesn't effect the lights and force them down. However, the product thus has to have the lights directly facing out so that you can not only see the bulb, but have a bright light staring you in the face. This makes the shades almost worthless.It's a decent light for the price and depending on the room you're using it in might work. But I don't think each light gives you enough flexibility to aim where you want and how you want. I'd probably stick with spending a few more dollars for a better brand that has that capability. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Lamp *by E***A on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 4, 2011* I think it's a little expensive for the price, but overall a decent product.It comes disassembled so you do need to spend about 10 mins to assemble the product before starting to use it but it's not a big deal. The lamp is pretty easy to assemble even for the mechanically challenged. The bulbs are not included with the lamp. It's a pretty decent lamp and I'm glad I bought it. Some people made a big deal out of the fact that the lamp "cap" is made out of cheap plastic. I don't see any problem with it. As long as you don't drop the lamp or anything, I don't see it as a problem at all. It looks great on my living room! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Looks solid *by K***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 15, 2013* The build quality of the product is really good, the lamp stem is made of a good steel-like material (which makes the lamp somewhat heavy). The shades are made of plastic and it was little hard to fit them into the right position. There are markings on the plastic shades which I think is supposed to help lock the shade into the lamp socket but it wasn't quite working well on the first attempt. To make the lamp shade lock in, insert the shade into the socket (to establish the initial position, keep turning the shade until it naturally goes into the socket), push it in a little, and while you keep some in-ward pressure on it turn the shade to the left as far as you can (slowly). Although it doesn't generate any locking sound (a click-sound), it does lock itself in nicely.
