Love it. Much better than what I'd been using.
This works quite well. Yeah, the arms have a slight memory, but it's manageable. And the arms are strong. The unit is solid. The clips hold well. I can recover the clips with shrink tubing - one of them is done that way already - and it grips better than the rubber does. The clips turn (very important), and they're easy to lock in position (also important). I've used 3 arms at the same time, today, on one task (I use this for building model ships). And I can see myself using all 4 arms for some work. The base is heavy - it doesn't move about IOW. Glad I bought this.

Incredibly helpful for soldering
Easy to assemble. The metal plate at the base is heavy, which prevents me from accidentally moving it if bumped during soldering. The metal plate also captures blobs of fallen solder without splashing too much, I dont worry about burning the rest of my work station. The helping hands are good quality, the arms are rigid and strong.

A multipurpose helper
I’ve gotten ‘third hand’ devices for sewing in the past so I knew when soldering became a new curiosity, the same concept would really come in handy for it. This thing is more like a third/fourth/fifth/sixth hand though. Very easy to assemble, comes in a pretty small box, nestled in foam cutouts. The steel base is a nice heavy weight, definitely not going to get pushed around easily. The rubber feet are balanced so there’s no wobble. The arms are strong but not difficult to bend like some tablet holders I’ve used in the past. I love the tightening nuts that attach to the alligator clips; you can use these to loosen the clip, swivel it to the right angle then tighten it so it won’t budge once more. Very handy. The clips are very strong and the teeth will hurt so definitely use the black rubber caps to protect skin and circuit boards better. It’s absolutely terrific for soldering but it also works great for clamping and glueing with other sorts of DIY projects and crafts on a small scale. I don’t solder a whole lot so it’s good to know I can use it for many other tasks. For the price and soldering, it’s likely all you’ll ever need unless you have much heavier/larger or really micro projects. For most other tasks, this is perfect.

I Never Knew I Needed This
I’m kinda new to soldering, and even though I’d purchased a smaller “helping hands” (the short one, with a magnifying glass and the short arms), I never really thought that THIS is the helping hands tool that I REALLY needed! I’ve used it only once and it is SO much better than the smaller one I have. The flexible arms make positioning SO much more convenient and efficient. On my other helping hands, I’m constantly having to find a good angle and position to hold whatever it is that I’m working on, but this tool is brilliant! I’m never going back to my other one after using this. It’s got a great weight to it, which helps keep it stable (my other one is constantly falling over and needs to be carefully balanced - no issues with that for this device). I also love that it comes with rubber clamp covers and an extra pair of clamps. It also has two extra holes on the plate, which I assume is for you to add extra arms, a light, or a magnifying glass. On that note, I do regret not buying the version with the magnifying glass on it, but that was entirely my shortsightedness. Good price? Yes Well built? Very much so Great value? Absolutely Do I recommend? 💯 Tips for anyone new to this: buy this instead of the small helping hands. You won’t regret it!

I very much enjoy this product and would highly recommend
This product is absolutely amazing the magnet strength alone on it works awesomely it's very stable when sitting on the workbench it's like having four little extra hands the clips hold pretty strong it is very versatile the size doesn't take too much area up on the workspace it's very safe to use and it gives you very good accessibility to your project that you're working on and makes it pretty much hands-free very easy to use once again I very much enjoy this product and would highly recommend this product to anybody that does any sort of soldering

If it fits your job it's worth the money.
AMAZING. I'd buy another if they had wider clasps and a round clasp option. Great for working on flat objects.

Read before purchasing.
I ordered this helping hands base unit for around $15. I received the item as promised next day early morning. Needing it to hold a damaged board, I immediately went to put it together and get going. Upon initial set up, I came across one of the flexible arms with gator clip attached to the end that once placed to the board and screwed into place would not tighten, it seems as if the first several threads inside had been previously stripped out and smooth. I could get a bite on the threads, but not enough to hold it in place and kept falling right out if I tried manipulating the arms. This was unfortunate, the metal base seemed solid and sturdy otherwise. The flexible hands with attached gator clips, however, were quite tight. When trying to place them where I needed them to be to hold the wire to the board. It took quite a bit of bending, because the flexible arms kept wanting to return to their original position. These just kept wanting to go to the upright position. With quite a bit of manipulation of all arms in use, I could get it to sit where I needed to but the slightest movement would throw everything off. Even barely touching the board with a soldering iron to make contact would move it. If I used the in the almost completely strait up position I could almost get them to work, but still the arms would not stay where I needed them. Contacting the store was a bit frustrating, they wanted a video, far as I can tell you can't send videos but I managed a work around. then seemed to be stuck in a loop, they kept offering two options to make it right, I kept responding, and this went back and fourth like this 3 or 4 time. was odd and irritating. Eventually offered a refund. This was satisfactory. I give an official 2.5 starts for the heavy and sturdy steel base, good strong rubber coated gator clips, and the satisfactory end.

Awesome addition to my work shop
I bought this to hold fishing lures while I paint them and it has made my life so much easier. Its a great tool for a great price. the base is nice and heavy so no worries about tipping etc. The alligator clips are not cheapo ones - they are pretty good quality and the arms are nice and flexible yet sturdy enough to hold things in place. If you're on the fence, I say go for it.
