Good price for GREAT fun.
I absolutely know nothing about guitars. I wanted to buy it for a long time. I read most reviews here and finally decided to buy one. I ordered it on 09/01/2011 and the product arrived on 09/12/2011 (as mentioned). The packaging was satisfactory to me. I first checked for any damages and also missing items. But everything was good. Item wise review is as follows: 1. Tuner - The seller provided the electronic tuner with a set of batteries. I watched youtube on how to tune the guitar using an electronic tuner! I am an absolute beginner. Very easy to work with. 2. Dummies book - This book gives a good start. Pretty much covers all the basics. Although, one might need more advanced books for further improvement. Also, youtube has a lot of videos to help you improve. 3. Guitar and Pick - The quality of the sound is pretty decent. I have no particular complaints. I am practicing everyday (1 hour minimum) and it becomes more playable. I am happy about the guitar quality. Picks are really good. No complaints from my side. 4. CD - Works fine. Though, I am an international student, I cannot relate myself to the exercise songs. But I am sure that for practicing purpose this CD is very useful. 5. Bag - I don't think the quality of the bag should prevent you from buying the guitar. I can carry my guitar to any place I go. And that is what I want from the bag. ** It would have been great if they added an extra string set, in case, if these strings breaks. Initially, it was very tough to use. The strings were tight and fretting was tough. It was really painful to play in the beginning. But one month of practice and I don't feel any pain now. Overall, I am satisfied with this product. With a regular practice, I am able to play some songs without any trouble. I am personally having a great fun with this product. I would recommend this product to my friends. I hope this review helps you for your purchase.

Perfect kit for beginners!
If you are wanting to learn to play the guitar, this is one of the best deals you will find on Amazon. This is an awesome starter kit at a great price! The guitar is high quality and sounds fantastic! Pros: - this kit is totally perfect for absolute beginners - it has everything you need to start playing - the case has a front pocket to store all the stuff it comes with - the book explains everything really clearly and has an accompanying CD which helps - the book is not really thick so it won't take that long to read through it - the digital tuner works great and makes tuning the guitar (which you have to do often) a breeze Cons: - it doesn't come with a strap, but otherwise this kit is perfect If you want to be able to stand and play, you will need to get a strap separately. Amazon has some affordable straps for around $6-12.

Whats in the boxxxx...? I love this guitar!
I'm a newbie to guitar playing, but have played many instruments. I would say the quality of this guitar is very good for a beginner. When you open the box, you will find a nice Kona guitar in light colored wood, a "Guitar basics for dummies" book with some good information ( although you wont really learn how to plAy from the book, it does have a lot of good information in it that guides you thru the basics of a guitar. Example... finger placement, different types of music notation for the guitarist ( finger numbers and diagrams) It is basically a reference book. The box also includes an electric tuner, which can tune the guitar in different keys, so for a beginner, you usually want to start out with (low, fattest string)E, A D G B E(hi, thinnest string) <-- I wasnt sure what note to start with. That will help! You will receive a baggie with a few beginner picks(meaning they are not thick or rigid. As you get better, you usually move up to thicker ones) and you will recieve a gig bag and an allen wrench. I was confused about the wrench..it is used to tighten the tress, which is a steel rod that goes thru the neck of the guitar. If your guitar buzzes, you may need to adjust the neck. It is done with the allen wrench in a small hole at the bottom of the neck just under the strings. Overall, i love this guitar- i just need to learn it! ( Try using an app, like Yousition, which runs about $15.00) its a good starter program.

Not bad at all and there's a but........
I'm writing this review from a clueless very beginner perspective. Main reason I choose this kit is because of it price in a combo package and afraid that I ever get frustrated It won't do a big dent in my wallet. Guitar => Ain't bad for the price in a combo package but I won't say it great either. String are little high for fret making it hard for beginner like me. I just can't seem to calibrate D string to tune, it either shown high or low can't get green light to come on, beside that all others are fine. Sticker MADE IN CHINA is everywhere on the guitar seriously?. The neck and headstock seem to be hollow and make from thin plywood not sure how long this going to last but it for $78 FREE SHIPPING you can't expect much. Tuner => Instruction printed on the back of the box so don't hurry ripping it or throw away cause you going to need it. So after reading through couple chapters they want you to try to play C chord. So first come is tuning your guitar and here's a clue in the book didn't tell you in first few chapter.......b sign and # symbol next to LED on top left/right indicate high or low and you need to get it in the middle where green light. Important to understand here is when you hit each string and the light # symbol come up, you'll need to loosing (counter clockwise) not tightening it more and vise vs versa. If you pop the CD in and play track 1 place the tuner next to your speaker, where you'll notice the green light always lit up at each string play and this is what you need to get your guitar to be. Very frustrating at first but I get use to it fast. Book => This book say for beginner and intermediate but after reading through few chapters I don't think it for beginner at all. I'm struggling playing the C chord. It show picture and step to hold your fingers on the fret and strike all string ...and it sound horrible LOL. I haven't got to next step yet and I'm at the very edge of giving up playing. I will get on Youtube to find more videos and see how it goes. CD => 1 track is sound of each string. The rest are play along song once you get better or good. Bag => I see other complaints it didn't fit ???....I think it a little big for the guitar. Pick => you'll get 3 and 1 hex allen wrench. Overall I think it ain't a bad kit at all for very beginner like me. I gave it 4 star instead of 5 because of string are too high and little other things like tuner, as Kona could of include a easier digital tuner for may be $2 more over the one in this kit. Book could be written little better.

Bang for your buck
Ok so . . . . I wanted to wait to write the review to make sure everything was as it seems, and it holds tune. . . And . . It is great. However do not expect to pay less than $100 and get a guitar that will be the greatest guitar ever made. This is a awesome starter bundle. I am a beginner and have learned so much since I've owned it with the help from the book, YouTube, and a musical family. Out of the box, it will obviously need to be tuned, and the coviently give you a great tuner anyone can use even me. To strum and learn your finger positions the strings and action are decent. My friend told me to take it to a music shop and and ask for some ultra light to light strings and lower the action. . . So I done so and am thankful for it. I get compliments from friends of how good the guitar sounds and how great it plays. Again this is a great buy and for around $50 more in a music store to get string and the labor to put them on and lower the action, this makes a awesome and reliable guitar. It holds tune wonderfully as well. I am very please with this purchase and would do it again.

Cheap, but not bad
Cheap guitar for the beginner. Not fancy; but helps getting started in the lessons. Includes: Guitar; Pocket Dummies book with audio practice follow a longs; tuner; soft case; picks; and an Allen wrench. Dislikes: 1) Soft case; seems too soft to protect the guitar. 2) tuner; small device with really small instruction manual words and doesn't really help to tune to the proper cords as instructed (I ended up over tuning and broke the strings) 3) Book is too small; forget the audio- where's the DVD?! (I had to pay extra for a separate DVD with Dummies Book for the help learning the guitar) 4) An Allen wrench; not sure what that is for Likes: 1) Shipment and arrival; on time and no damage- was packaged tightly into a correctly fitted box (wrapped) 2) Starting out on something cheap as a unit, but not overly on the price on would-be separated items 3) Three picks Overall is decent, but not expensive. Recommending to you that is needed in a purchase is a hard case to protect the guitar. To buy again: Not likely (for me anyway) I would personally purchase these items separately and customized to better suit my needs. Hope this helps!

Nearly complete for what you need to get started
I was planning to get started on learning guitar for quiet some time now. Having no prior background in playing guitar, it was a little confusing for me to understand where to start. I definitely didn't want to invest too much or no something that was inferior in quality. After reading the reviews and also having same faith in the 'dummies brand', I went ahead with this starter kit. I have been using it for ~2months now. I'm highly pleased with the product. The whole kit is very nicely packaged. The guitar is beautiful and has a very nice feel. The cover, as many reviewers have said is probably not the best you can get. But it does the job for me. It is good enough to protect the guitar from the dust and that's all I care. I don't plan to travel with the guitar so the cover really is to store the guitar in the house and it is good enough for that. Also, the whole kit comes in a very nice box. I have kept th ebox to use it for storage when I don't plan to play the guitar for long time! The book is good and got me started immediately. The tuner I found little difficult to figure out, but that I believe now was because I didn't understand the guitar string naming etc. I went online and there are many videos that will help you in figuring out how to use the tuner. Once you understand how it use it, it seems very obvious and pretty easy to use. Now, after working with the book for couple weeks, I realized that just the book won't be enough. You need somebody telling you the fine points and also you need some visual reference to understand how to play the instrument right. I looked around for guitar classes. They are pretty expensive! Just the beginner classes (6 sessions) were > 150$. I would have still enrolled in one of them, but then I found this great online website that has video guitar lessons (beginner, intermediate and beyond). The cost of enrolling was 1/3rd the cost of just the beginner guitar classes. I won't name the website here but I do recommend you look around online and see if that option works for you. I have been having a great time as I can view the lessons any time I want, in my own house and as many times as I want! Plus, it hardly costed me anything. The guitar has been playing nicely and I have no complains at all! I think it was an excellent buy. The only thing that I realized later wasn't perfect is that the guitar doesn't have one hook for connecting the guitar strap. So, if you want to play the guitar standing up, you can't do it with this guitar. But I believe by the time I'm ready to really play the guitar standing up, I would have invested in a more expensive one. Till then, this guitar will do just fine.

Worth for the price!!
Well, to start with, I love guitars and am planning to learn. This Guitar for Dummies Acoustic is a great one for the beginners. IT came in a very safe packaging. I was so excited to open it all the way! The strings are strong and are of good quality. The wood is of real good quality. I got 3 picks, a beginner book, tuner , as mentioned, along with this. The bag is good enough to protect the guitar from dust. It cannot protect it from any kind of damage though. I am loving to learn with this. The CD with the book, when my friend inserted it in her laptop, her anti virus software detected some virus and didnt allow it to be run. So I dont recommend using the CD unless you have a strong anti-virus. The book gives us the basic details and is easy to understand. I prefer watching youtube videos and learn though. I didnt try to use the tuner yet. It is absolutely worth for that price, and for beginners. I dnt think experts like it though.
