Dartfords Interior Water Based Wood Dye in Amber (230ml) offers a versatile, easy-to-use solution for enhancing all bare and sanded soft or hardwoods. With coverage of approximately 8m² per litre, it supports multiple application methods and allows custom color mixing. Ideal for interior woodwork, flooring, and creative projects, it requires sealing with a protective topcoat to ensure fade resistance and durability.

## Description

Product Description Water based wood dye with good fade-resistance. Being water based it is a grain-raising dye and is suitable for all soft- and hardwoods. This general purpose dye can be used for all interior woodwork applications, including flooring. Additional sanding will be required after the first coat is applied to smooth the wood’s grain back down. It must be sealed in with an appropriate top coat COVERAGE Approximately 8sq m per litre, depending on the timber and method of application. If you are doing a single job that will require multiple bottles of dye then they should all be bought at the same time, and all mixed in a larger container before application to ensure colour consistency throughout. Colours can vary from batch to batch. THINNING Thin with distilled water, both for cleaning and to lessen the intensity of a colour. MIXING All colours can be mixed with each other to create your own bespoke tint. Always mix up enough to complete your job to ensure colour consistency across the whole surface. USAGE OVERVIEW Can be applied using a brush, cloth, sponge or by dipping. The wood should be clean and dry, and can optionally have been grain filled first with our Thixotropic or Water Based Grain Fillers. Whatever the method, apply liberally and wipe off any excess. Overlap applications to blend edges. The first coat will usually noticeably raise the grain of the wood, so the surface should be sanded with 320 grit once the first coat has dried to flat the grain back down. Subsequent coats should then have far less of a grain-raising effect. In most conditions the dye will be touch dry and recoatable within 30-60 minutes. Allow at least 8 hours before coating with a suitable protective top coat of lacquer, varnish or oil. COMPATIBILITY Suitable for use on all unfinished, untreated woods. Can be coated with all of our spray and brush varnishes, lacquers and oils. Directions Easy to use water based interior wood dye for all bare, sanded soft and hardwoods. Nice yellow colour; vibrant but not too bright. Easy to apply. Two coats of this along with some new, yellow handles completely transformed my old, tired looking, pine chest of drawers. I used this outdoors on a warm, sunny day. It dried very quickly. Two coats applied to a pre cleaned, pale, pine wood surface seemed to be enough. Very happy with it. Would buy again.
