Great camera for active lifestyle
Got Hero 3+ Silver to replace a previous underwater camera that offed itself after one too many deeper snorkel dives. Personally, I think the Silver version provides 85% of the benefit most people will need from their Go Pro, but if you are super serious about this stuff maybe go for Black for advanced settings and higher res settings. Everyone else, save the cash - this thing rocks. First, upgrading firmware, software is pretty easy if you have basic computer skills - dont be nervous - follow website/Amazon review instructions and it will be easy, as will be wireless setup. Go Pro App is sweet - can control camera, preview, review footage all immediately on phone through wireless. Be aware though - wireless range is pretty limited - not sure but Go Pro wireless remote might have longer range - seems to based on advertising. We used this for trip to Dominican Republic, primarily for snorkeling, but also general photos and vids. Default 960p/60 fps (think its 60 fps) vid (can go to 1080p too) is awesome and the camera does pretty well in low light - adjusts quick - I placed the camera several times under a coral outcrop (get the clear Go Pole - must have accessory) and in seconds it adjusted and captured great footage. Def does better closer to object than far away in regards to detail, but as long as you dont expect super zoom type of detail, it will meet your needs. As others have noted, lens does impart somewhat of a fish eye type of effect, but nothing that made me terribly upset. 10mp pics came out nice - once again, closer to subject better. Time lapse and burst are awesome for catching the perfect shot in a dynamic situation. Housing is well made and camera and housing are durable. No problem down to 25 feet snorkeling and rated to like 90+. Antifog inserts a must for underwater or humid conditions. Battery life was excellent - I found myself able to have the camera on and filming on and off for at least an hour and then be able to review footage on phone through wireless for at least 30 min before battery gave out - get Wasabi backups and charger - seems to work just fine with Go Pro battery - charging through USB is a pain to me. Would also be nice to be able to effectively transfer stuff to PC through wireless, but at size of vids and pics easier to just remove from housing and do through USB.

Your wasting time reading comments JUST BUY IT!!!
Let me begin by saying Not only do i love this but it is surprising me all the time. I will be proposing to my girlfriend tonight and you can bet that it will be there. She wont know thanks to the amazing feature of turning off all sound and lights. But its nice. The speaker is great and the image is something else. I ride dirt bikes and this is perfect for me. The camera is very durable. The wide angle lens is also something to be amazed at. You don't get very much fish-eye effect but the view can literally almost look at your feet form on top of you head. I have already use the higher frame rate for some really neat slow motion shots. I never planned on using it as just a photo camera but was actually surprised of its quality and now i use that every once in a while. I cant wait to get out on the slopes for some snowboarding this year to check out what it can do. When I start using it the first thing that I do is connect it to the Go pro app and make sure I have it set up exactly how I want it. Needless to say, if you are asking me I would tell you that you should have already clicked add to cart. Your cat does not need to eat this week/month, just do it. Imagine all of the fun you could be having right now. But instead you are wasting you time reading mindless comments from bored accounting specialists who would rather be riding.

Good, Not Great
I enjoyed the camera but sadly was only able to use it for two weeks before it was lost on a fly-away drone. In the time I had it, I enjoyed using it under water, taking time lapse video and trying out the various straps and accessories I had also purchased. I will consider a replacement but not right away as I would need to reevaluate my use case before considering a replacement.. There are other suitable and significantly less expensive cameras that I would use in the future on a drone. Here are some of the high points of the camera: + Compact size and water proof case + Okay picture/video quality (not great) + 240 FPS 720p video for slow motion (top feature for me) + 1080p 60 video + Large selection of inexpensive aftermarket mounts. + Great community to inspire new use cases Drawbacks - Wi-fi range is significantly shorter than expected; began to question the value of this feature except for initially framing a shot. - Picture quality, specifically the loss of resolution when switching from the wide mode to narrow mode. I don't care for the "fish eye" look at all but if you switch from "wide" to "narrow", the resolution goes from 12 megapixels to 5 megapixels. The photos look okay but the loss of resolution limits cropping/post editing possibilities. This is a pretty significant disclaimer in my experience. The drawbacks warrant a one star deduction. Would probably drop another half star if I could. Once I lost the camera and began assessing replacement options, I quickly discovered that there is a large copy cat market of cameras with the same form factor and many of the same features at a fraction of the cost of a GoPro. The number one feature of these cameras is the form factor and ability to go under water, which is matched by the others out there. I don't regret the purchase but to this point, I don't feel any urge to replace this camera right away. If I do, I will consider the White model. I have an extra battery and accessories so that will factor into my evaluation.

Great value, great camera!
I have been considering a waterproof action camera for a while. I did research to see if GoPro was still at the top of the game. After looking at other brands, I decided it was GoPro I needed. I am not using this for very extensive, abusing activities. It's more for being in the pool with my kids, vacations, etc. Therefore I expect it to last a long time. I realized you have to hold it steadier longer while taking photos compared to a normal point and shoot camera. After realizing that, they turned out OK the next time. Using it for more video like most people are using it for anyway is great though! I loved being able to pull it up on the app on my phone and viewing everything and even download it to my phone. I haven't messed with the GoPro studio yet but plan on utilizing a great free program. I made the jump to the 3+ because I did plan on using it for pictures also and it double megapixels from one to the other. I found that worth it along with the other features that were upgraded. Overall, this is a great product and it's worth sticking with the top action camera brand!

White water rafting - the Go is a go!
OK, It's not my Canon D70, but then I can't take my D70 white water rafting. The camera is everything promised and then some. I recently took the camera white water rafting through Royal Gorge (level 4/5). Set the camera to take 1 shot per second. Got some outstanding action shots (love the ones of my girlfriend falling out of the raft). Although the pictures were more wide angle than I thought they would be, the pictures came out very clear and I was able to get many pictures I would not otherwise have gotten. The camera did not fog up (I was using anti-fog strips) and worked great through rapids and many high impact situations. Had no problems with waterproofing. Looking forward to hooking it to my Honda Goldwing and shooting while riding. I think this will be a great camera for its intended purpose - action shots on the go. So far I love it.

Still the best GoPro for your money
Out of all the many cameras GoPro manufacture, this one is still the best for your money. I've been subscribed to the GoPro newsletters since I got this camera over a year ago, and not to my surprise, all of them seem to add new fluff that most people don't really need to carry around. The reason I say this is because stuff like ProTune, or Built-in LCD screen (unless you personally would benefit from it, but I don't) really are just extra things that I don't believe are necessary. Actually, if you really wanted a LCD screen, you can always get the LCD Touch BackPac for $80, no big deal. What carries from this camera are really just the essentials. - Changable Battery. I'm only just starting to see that GoPro is removing the ability to change out the battery on these cameras, and leaving it to the HERO4s. This means the cameras like the HERO4 session (dropped $100), HERO+, and some other entry-level GoPros are only featuring a built-in battery. I feel the benefit with built-in batteries is you can change out the battery with a longer lasting Wasabi battery. You could have multiple batteries and SD Cards, and you could end up recording for a long time without having to switch cameras (because of built-in batteries). - No built-in LCD screen. The HERO4 Silver now has the LCD screen built in, but now $100 more, for Protune, possibly improved audio, and the same framerates? If you don't end up needing the LCD touch screen (like I mentioned above), it's only $100 less, and carries the same framerates (1080p60, 720p60). That being said, I can see why GoPro would add some of those features, primarily I see it as being more "user-friendly" (being able to see what you're recording or watching recorded videos off it, but I don't know since I don't own the LCD touch screen). But if you're looking for something that would get you more for less, perfect comparison being the HERO4 Session since they're now the same price, this definitely would be the best buy.

Great camera with two deal-breaking issues (for me)
GPH3+ Silver Edition (1.09 firmware): I'm writing this review in a rather disappointed mood. I bought this camera for both action shoots and time-lapse no-scope astro-photography. Some Observations: * The camera is tiny: much smaller and lighter than the pictures would let you believe. It comfortably sits on the palm of your hand. * Wi-Fi is a battery vampire. In my tests, it will cut published battery life in about half. And unless you have the live view BackPack, you are going to need it together with the GoPro app. * Without a heavy investment on accessories/harnesses/handles/leashes, you will find yourself with a $300 paperweight, for all action videography intents and purposes. * The ultra-wide has quite a bit of barrel distortion at the edges, but this is normal for this type of lens. The disappointment: As mentioned above, I had two purposes in mind for this camera: 1) I wanted a good under-water and action/rugged video and still camera to tote along when we go on family trips. 2) I like doing no-scope, time-lapse astrophotography and this is where this camera falls flat on its face. I ran several tests with good light and "night" light. time-lapses of clouds and of stars. And anything out in infinity came very soft, even at the center of the frame. This was a disappointment because my bud's GP2 takes much, much, much better pictures and time lapses than this much newer model. Then as some suggested, I took still pictures of myself and people standing within 10-15 feet were also soft-focused and not in a good way. Another disappointment that I mentioned above is that Wi-Fi will suck the life out of the battery really, really fast. On a full charge, I took about 32 minutes of video and about 17 still pictures before GP3+ battery dies on me. All in all, these issues are simply too important for me and am returning the camera as we speak.

One of my better investments. I have found more uses for this camera then I ever thought I would. From fishing, to hunting, to capturing vacations. It is a great camera and with a few little accessories the possibilities are endless. I have had it in the waters of Cayman Islands to the bush mounted on my ATV. The picture and audio are great. I have zero negative to say about this camera other than I should have bought a GoPro years ago.

I loved it so much, I had to upgrade!
I bought this as I have been wanting to get an action/sports camera for a long time now. After plenty of research and watching videos on youtube I decided to settle for this, as it was £70 cheaper than the black model, yet still one of the best on the market. I took this to Spain on holiday and it captured some great footage out there whilst white water rafting and canyoning. It performed just as needed on all the activities I did, and with the simple button controls there was no messing around having to remove it from my head to check it was getting the footage etc. I was worried that without a back display I would miss some footage as I didn't know where the camera was filming, however with the wide angle lens it becomes very hard to miss something as long as you point it in the general direction of wherever you're filming! One thing I would mention is that if you are wanting to do various activities you will have to spend more money on buying different mounts an accessories, so try and take that into account. Overall a great little camera and definitely worth the money. I liked it that much that I decided to sell it to my brother so I could upgrade to the black version! (I also upgraded as I decided to do more than film family holidays)
