a swing at the playground for my son's party is broken. could we temporarily put this there?

The swing has what is called an S hook to hang the swing. The S hook hooks into a hook eye on a swing's beam. So if the hook eye on the swing set at the playground is a size that the S hook will fit then yes the swing will work. Hope this helps.
