My expectations were low because I've been let down by lots cheap Chinese made things I've bought in the past. I envisioned sitting patiently waiting for something to happen then throwing them in a drawer or the garbage when I was disappointed once again. Not today... When aimed correctly, which isn't difficult to do at all, it took only seconds to light a cigarette. I'm sure you'd have the same results with kindling or similar material. Having one of these around for camping or emergency situations is a very good idea. They're also invaluable if you're like me and just like to say, "hey, check this out..."

In two tries on hot sunny days I could not get them to work. Since cigarettes don't exist in the 21st century, I tried using toilet paper in the holder. Either they need an aiming device, since it is impossible to tell if they are pointed at the sun, or they need a larger diameter, or both. Yeah I know they want to be compact, but as is, I have not got them to work yet. Compact is nice, but actually being functional is required. And now it is pushing winter, so I probably won't even try again until summer. Cool idea....implementation is not good enough.
