Review: How is a speaker this nice only $30?!?! - Update - I have owned this speaker for two years now. It still sounds great. I am still amazed at the sound that comes from this compact speaker. If you are wondering if the reviews are to good to be true STOP WORRYING and buy this speaker before Cambridge SoundWorks realizes they priced it too low. I was trying to find a new Bluetooth speaker for my wife as a birthday gift. The Logitec that we owned for several years just didn't sound like it used to. In addition to the Bluedio BS-3 I also purchased the Cabridge SoudWorks OontZ Angle 3, and the UE Roll (1st Generation). If you are wondering, the Cambridge SoundWorks had the best sound in my opinion regardless of price. When we received all three speakers my wife insisted I participate in a blind listening test. I am a cheap skate and she was convinced I would favor the cheaper speaker (she did not know the prices when we listened to them). We found an article online with song recommendations for testing speakers and headphones. We listened to Caribbean Blue by Enya (not a fan but a good song to test the speakers), Brass Monkey by Beasty Boys, and Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack. I also added Falling Slowly from the Once soundtrack as it has good female and male vocals in the same song, as well as acoustic guitar. Results Bluedio BS-3 - This speaker was easily identified as the 3rd Place speaker. While it sounded fine there was not a single song I listened to where it stood out. The one area where I felt this speaker excelled was in volume. You could leave this speaker on the kitchen counter and hear it clearly in the living room 30 feet away. The only negative was a constant soft static sound in the back ground. If I had not been comparing side by side I might not have noticed it. Had this speaker been less expensive than the Cambridge SoundWorks OontZ Angel 3 I might have considered it. UE Roll (1st Generation) - The UE Roll was a very good speaker and definitely a good value at $67. My wife and I did not share our opinions with each other as we progressed through the listening test. The amazing thing was that we both had identical thoughts about all three speakers. Our first impression was that the UE Roll had the best sound. However when we narrowed it down to the a head to head contest with the Oonz Angle 3 we realized it had very different sound from the other speakers. The only way I can describe it is that the Roll sounds like it is under a thin lid. There is a slightly muffled echo aspect to the sound. The more I listened, the more I noticed, and I did not like it. Again had I purchased this speaker on its own I would have liked it just fine. It is also possible mine was a one off for UE. Cambridge SoundWorks Oontz Angle 3 - When I told my wife that this speaker was only $30 she didn't believe me.Seriously how is this speaker $30!!! She has a Bose speaker in her office at work. This speaker is no where near as good as the Bose, but my wife appreciates good sound. The Oontz Angle 3 sounds great. The funny thing is that I almost eliminated it from consideration listening to Brass Monkey because I thought it had a harsh sound to it. I later realized that it was just the jarring differences of the UE Roll. The Roll's slightly muffled sound made the Angle 3 sound harsh in comparison. If you are looking for a Bluetooth speaker under $100 the Cambridge SoundWorks Oontz Angle 3 is a great choice. The best part is that it is only $30!!!
Review: this thing actually bumps - this thing actually sounds really good.. it has two drivers, one for the left and one for the right.. they are about 40 mm each.. the grill is not removable, The speaker grill has such tiny holes that if you get it dirty, you can use some Scotch tape to remove what is stuck in it, most likely.. I listened to the entire album of licensed to Ill right after taking it out of the box and charging it a little, you can use it while it is still charging. now it may not thump like a pair of 12-in kicker solo baric subs hooked up to a 1200 watt digital monoblock amp.. lol but for a small speaker setup, this is definitely the best that I have heard at this size and price point. I'm really glad I picked these up. I'm the type of person that actually notices how the speakers in smartphones have been getting worse and worse... so I run an equalizer most of the time.. every pair of earbuds I have tried require an equalizer to reduce the sub bass and the extreme treble to make them sound halfway normal.. this little triangle box is so good, instead of reducing the sub bass and boosting some higher bass to get a little bit of kick.. this thing actually can reproduce Bass.. I mean not only was I able to leave the bass straight, but I actually boosted all the bass below 250 HZ and I only reduced the very high trebles because of my preference.. with most speaker setups if you want to hear the bass more, you would need to have the bass reflex side facing you, but this little system actually pushes more bass from the front of the drivers than it does from the passive bass reflex set up.. it seems the electronics are all at the end with the buttons.. which makes sense.. it has one large passive bass reflex side that gets driven by both of the drivers, so there probably isn't a divider between the two drivers at all, but I must say, the clarity is extremely good, even at full volume.. and the volume buttons on this control its own attenuator.. meaning that it does not change the volume setting of your device or smartphone.. so you can set the phone at what volume you want with the phone and then with the speaker box, you can also lower the volume on it.. I was playing it with both the phone and volume at full tilt.. but most of the time I would have it it with the volume turned down one press of the button from maximum on both the phone and on the speaker box. I'm actually calling it a speaker box because this thing is worthy. it's just over 5 inches long so it's big enough to really reproduce some bass.. surprisingly, and small enough to be very portable, plus the triangle shape should prove really nice for many applications.. I believe it has a decent sized battery.. I don't believe you can find something better for this price.. and the appearance? well the packaging it came in was way nicer than it needed.. and the appearance of the device, well this thing is very very nice, the end caps seem to be silicone which is awesome and it has very nicely designed foot pads to try to prevent it from moving around.. some reviews said that the base sounded better when the bass reflex side was facing downward but I heavily disagree.. I got the best bass from standing it on one end with the drivers actually facing me. I might actually buy a second one but this thing is nice enough that it doesn't really need it. maybe the sound would be even better with two of them paired together.. but I am very happy with it. I got a black one. I don't remember if it was available in different colors as I was shopping online quite a bit before deciding to try this one, I was assuming that I might return it if I wasn't happy with it but I'm definitely happy with it. it doesn't have the cool retro appearance that some speakers have, and I do love the retro appearance of smooth cones with concave caps that look like subwoofers with no grill in separate boxes.. but this thing sounds awesome and the shape is probably extremely convenient for me. it has some weight and the textures on it feel like top quality, and all of the print with words for information are on the side with the bass reflex which is just perfect.. I have not tried using it for a phone call yet but I see the singular pinhole where the microphone is at one of the corners.. it probably works just fine so long as you don't take a wad of refried beans and shove it into the hole lol.. very soon I will be playing some test tracks with crazy boosted sub bass. 😁😇 I wrote this review using the microphone on it, and I'm not even holding it up. so it does work, that's for sure. I believe the triangle shape, the decent amount of volume inside of the box and the angle of the passive bass reflex panel, combined with the fact that both drivers are acting on it, and that the large mass of the passive diaphragm, all contribute to its ability to reproduce... dare I say it.. sub bass. very cool. if I want to use it out and about, hopefully the battery can last, it's also cool that it has the 3.5 mm auxiliary input jack. I really like this pocket-sized system alot.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: how long does the charge last?**
A: The manufacturer (Cambridge) rates the Angle 3 at 7 hours compared to 15-20 hours for the Angle 2 and a mere 5 hours for the OontZ Curve. Having owned all three, I can't dispute those figures. I'm unhappy with Cambridge's sudden decision (after a mere 2-3 months) to replace the Angle 2 with the Angle 3. They're sufficiently unlike one another to be concurrently carried rather than obsolesced. The 2 is the larger speaker (actually bigger than the UE Mini Boom) with the extra size accounting for the extra long life of the battery. The 3 is slightly lighter and more compact, bringing it closer--in size and battery life--to the company's exceedingly popular OontZ Curve. The 3 also has a tighter seal for greater resistance to water. But all 3 speakers sound like slightly above-average $30 speakers to the trained ear. If you listen to instrumental music (jazz, classical) and not simply "pop vocals", I'd strongly recommend investing in the higher-quality Oontz Angle speaker (at 3-4 times the cost) unless you can afford the rightly acclaimed Bose Mini Bluetooth (6-7 X the cost). In the $25-30 price range, I prefer the Oontz Curve for its visible, user-friendly controls. Neither the Angle 2 or 3 sounds any better in processing bass frequencies in a richly textured environment (horns, piano, drums and bass--which goes largely unheard in any of these 3 speakers). P.S. I notice that sellers are trying to get $10 for the now discontinued Angle 2 speakers. At that price I can live with 1/3rd the battery life (water-proofing is a non-factor, since I take my rubber ducky with me during bath times).

**Q: does it have a skip forward/ skip backward option?**
A: It does, but it is difficult to use or see. Instead, I use a Fintie Bluetooth Wireless Multimedia Remote control which I have on a lanyard so that I can change the volume or skip forward or go backward anywhere I am in the house.

**Q: Can the speaker be used while connected to a power/recharging source?**
A: HI, Yes, the OontZ Angle 3 speaker can play while it is being charged. You can keep it plugged into a charging source and play, the speaker will not over charge.

**Q: What's the difference between the angle plus and the angle 3? why are the reviews on this angle3 page all for the plus?**
A: In the past, I have found that reviews on Amazon are often bunched together for different, tho similar, models of the same product ... particularly electronics. The manufacturer's web site doesn't even list a Angle 3, so I would guess its a brand new model ... maybe there aren't enough (or any) reviews to show them separate from reviews of the Plus. As for the differences ... good question. Based on info from the description on Amazon, the only difference is what DAVLIN described in his answer to your question, though Amazon states a battery run time of 7 hours, not 10, presumably because of the greater power draw (to allow for greater volume). I would add that, even tho I have not heard the Angle 3 and assuming that its quality equals that of the Plus, they are both nice speakers for their size.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great bang for your buck!
*by E***. on February 15, 2016*

The Oontz Angle 3 is a very good speaker, especially for the price. The speaker I use for most of my comparisons for speakers in this size is the JBL Flip3. When comparing these two speakers side by side, the Oontz does well, holding it's own. It can play just as loud (maybe a little louder) than the Flip3 but also comes with a little distortion when cranked up to maximum if there is a lot of bass in the music. The bass on this speaker is there, not dominating in any way and actually a little more present if listening to the speaker not directly from the front. I do not consider the Flip3 to be a bass heavy speaker either but it does have a noticeable amount more bass than the Oontz, resulting in a fuller, more serious sound. I would not say the Oontz is tinny but it is a bit thinner sounding in comparison. The Flip3 is extremely well balanced, the Oontz seems to have an emphasis on the high range and offers some really impressive clarity in that area. I did see a lot of reviewers saying this speaker has great bass and I think this can be a bit misleading. If you like a lot of bass, you will not find it here. Bass is present, you can hear it (as I said before, better if listening from the side or back) but not really what I would call punchy or strong. I don't think you will really find that in an inexpensive speaker of this size, you would probably have to go to something like a JBL Charge 2 or Bose Soundlink Mini for something close to this size with boosted bass. One big advantage is that the Angle 3 costs only $28 on Amazon, compared to a retail of $100 for the JBL Flip3. Now to compare this speaker to other speakers in this price range, I would have to put this one at or near the top. I have not found another $30 speaker that really compares with the Oontz Angle 3. Most of them are tinny or hollow sounding and lack any kind of real bass at all. Most of them just have a weird thumpiness where bass is supposed to be. There are a few others out there I would still like to try but it can get expensive buying all of these speakers with my own money so I try to rely on YouTube videos and other reviews to lead me to purchase decent speakers. I have not yet tested the extent to which this is waterproof, I did use it in the shower and it got water sprayed on it and it is just fine. I paid for his with my own money with the intention of using it so I don't want to see how far I can go before it dies from too much water. Overall, if someone came to me and asked which speaker I recommend on a tight budget, I would not hesitate to recommend the Oontz Angle 3.
