Review: If you’re looking at ICOM versus another brand get the ICOM - I’ve been using ICOM radios for years and every one of them has been a solid purchase. I own 2 handhelds for instance that are close to 20 years old and the only thing that I’ve had to replace are the batteries. They aren’t pretty but they still work like they did when I bought them. The M-73 has a great receiver, probably the best in handheld marine radios not withholding other ICOMs that is. I fully expect this will hold up as well as my others. Review: Powerful handheld VHF - Solidly made product. Basic operations are straightforward and easy to perform using the buttons on the front of the radio. The more complex functions; e.g. setting up scanning on specific channels, requires the manual. Fortunately the manual is well organized and easy to reference. The electronic squelch control isn't completely intuitive, but I'm getting used to it. An old-school knob would give me more confidence the squelch is set correctly. The 12vdc plug for use with the charger base is a useful extra. My old ICOM M1V lasted 20+ years and that radio still works great; however replacement batteries are not available. I bought this for my emergency ditch bag on my boat. It's smaller than you think, but still has good volume and a nice display. The one thing I wish it had was a display with a backlight.
