However, there are recurring characters and an underlying interconnected conflict that play a major part in all the books, therefore to avoid spoilers, I highly recommend reading the books sequentially.OMG! I loved, loved, loved My Brother's Keeper. Alder's books are like crack for us paranormal romance junkies! And that's exactly what Alanea Alder delivered - AGAIN - in My Brother's Keeper, the fifth full-length paranormal romance in her riveting and highly imaginative Bewitched & Bewildered Series. Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain explicit language, some violence, and steamy, dreamy sex. Will I read this author again? Absolutely which is probably the best recommendation I can give! As a matter of fact, after completing the first book of this series, I raced back to Amazon and purchased the remaining nine books and signed up for her newsletter, which speaks volumes as to how much I enjoyed this author's work! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! I was glued to my chair, white-knuckling my ereader, my heart fluttering wildly in my chest as the pages flew as quickly as the pages!I fell in love with gruff, growly Kendrick. For romance, this book has a lot of pull at the heart strings moments, which is what I love in books.I think perhaps the reason I skimmed it the second time is there’s a case of mistaken identity. Anne believes that she is Keelan’s mate, because that’s what he said. He’s her best friend and he’s basically in a coma, and she wants to devote herself to taking care of him. But when she meets Kendrick, and is clearly very attracted to him, she forces herself to deny that he’s really her mate. It’s kind of really sad, Keenan is so lovable, especially after he saw Darian through his darkness, and for him to be gone, it’s just hard. And then to read both Anne and Kendrick dealing with their conflicting emotions, and intense loyalty to Keelan, it’s just sad.Anne is really likable, she’s levelheaded and kind, she’s dedicated her life to caring for people, first for her parents and then as a nurse and finally in caring for Keelan. She’s also a nerd, which of course I love, but in different ways than Meryn; she watches anime and speaks Japanese and plays a lot of magic video games. Needless to say I really like her.But Kendrick, man I love me some Kendrick. He’s everything you would want in a big brother. I love the way he talks to Keelan, or the little bits of memories from when Keelan was a baby. He’s also super smart, super strong, and really just an all around awesome guy. He’s kind of a kindred spirit for Meryn. He helps smooth out a lot of things coming at the group for different areas, but most importantly he really starts to put together the major pieces of the plot puzzle. And frankly, it’s heartbreaking and sad. Especially when you get to his personal connection to it all.This is the last book in this pillar city, we get to move on to the vampire city next, which is super exciting, and thing definitely pick up from here. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Hearts for Kendrick & Anne *by R***S on Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2016* MY BROTHER’S KEEPER is the fifth book in the Bewitched and Bewildered series and was another great read. The story continues on from MY SAVIOR and follows the mating of Kendrick (witch) and Anne (human). As with the previous books, the focus is still on the ferals and the necklaces that give them paranormal abilities they normally wouldn’t possess. Here, we find out how the necklaces are made, and that information is truly terrifying.Kendrick is Keelan’s older brother, and if you’ve read the previous book you will know that Keelan “died” protecting Amelia and the Alpha Unit from a trap that would have stripped them of their souls. I thought Kendrick was going to be a stick-in-the-mud, but I loved his character. He fits in perfectly with the members of the Alpha Unit and their mates. In fact, he’s almost like a male version of Meryn; they think alike and both have a huge thirst for knowledge.Anne is a trained nurse, brought in by the Unit to look after Keelan, who they all think is her mate. Turns out it was the right family, but the wrong brother. Other than saying she’s nice and that she also fits in with the men and women of the house, there’s not much else I can say about her because the story focused on Kendrick and the necklaces.MY BROTHER’S KEEPER is told in dual POVs, with the epilogue being told in Elizabeth’s as she and Meryn are summoned by her uncle to the vampire city of Noctem Falls. I get the impression that the next several books will take place in Noctem Falls and will focus on the Unit members there finding their mates. We still don’t know who is behind the creation of the necklaces, so that story arc is still ongoing. As I’ve come to expect with this series, the story had me laughing throughout: from Meryn’s ranking system to the Girl Scout cookies.
