Works Great, even though it's plastic. Can't say if it will be durable, but the last one (also Scotts) lasted 25 years. Seems to be made well.

This seems to do what it is designed for, although it says it works with ice melt, the crystals are various sizes and occasionally the wheel doesn't want to spin because of a jam. Spinning backwards or powering through has worked to clear it every time. Overall, spreads fairly evenly and is easy to use. One change I've made is it recommends setting 5 for salt/ice melt. I've worked my way back to 3 as the bin empties mighty fast on 5 and I'd rather do multiple passes and evenly spread rather than running out in just a minute or two. This is definitely not ambidextrous use. You must hold the handle (with arm "wrest") with left arm and spin with right. As a lefty, not my most comfortable but it works just fine and I'm fairly ambidextrous. If you are majorly left arm dominant, this might not be the spreader for you.

I have a small yard. This is perfect for fertilizer and pesticides. Doesn't take up much room in the garage.

This review is for the Scotts Whirl Hand-Powered Spreader. I had a no name brand spreader that I used for years, but it finally gave up the ghost and I needed to replace it. I looked for various solutions and was surprised at how few there were. I came across the Scotts Whirl Hand-Powered Spreader at both the big box stores (you know, the orange one and the blue one?) and they both carried this model but the price seemed too high for me to consider it. But when I found the exact same model on Amazon for half the price of the cheapest of the big box stores I decided to order it. Now, the build quality is very good and it seems sturdy. I've used it with Weed and Feed and since the hopper was larger than the spreader I had before I was worried about supporting the weight. But the extendable brace provides a forearm support that makes it fairly comfortable. The only issue I have is that I'm left handed and I'd like to have someone design these products so that they could be used by either hand. But that's just a wish. Overall the product is excellent and I expect it to give me years of great service.

Has an amazing spread used fot fertilizer and you can adjust the amount that comes out can cover and large area on max setting

Good and strong very simple idea but easy to use

I like to spread by hand as opposed to a wheeled spreader. This hand held allows me to direct the fertilizer where I want it specifically. So it does that and keeps the spread product out of my shoes. It works well and is easy to clean upon finishing.
