After covering my other windows next to the door with frosted glass window film for privacy, I needed a way to see out. So I went looking for a peephole to get a view of who could be at the door. Upon searching for peepholes on Amazon, there’s just so many cheap crappy options listed first! This one may cost a few more bucks and does require you to buy tools if you don’t have but it’s so nice. Installation was a breeze with an Amazon recommended 28mm forstner bit. I have a metal foam core door, so I got the metal cutting bit. Make sure you get the right bit for your door material! Once the hole was cut, you just screw the two ends together. Easy! The optics on this thing are fantastic for a peephole!! I’m not saying it’s perfect because there is plenty fringing around objects but this is a $15 lens we’re talking about here. You have to temper some expectations. For the price, you get a large clear view outside your door. It looks a bit better in person with clarity than what you see through the photos here. I did find that while you have a clear view outside day and night, even without the cover down, I can’t see back inside! You can still flip down the cover if it makes you feel better though. Overall. The cost is higher than the cheapest available peepholes here but you’ll be happy you spent the extra few bucks to get something of better quality that should last. If mine doesn’t last, I will be sure to update the review.

Well built. And works well. Heavy duty. Great view angle. Needs big hole in the door . I recommend using at least blue thread locker. A micro drop of it. You know just in case someone gets a bright idea to unscrew it. And then using wire and huge hole someone could try using wire to get to your locks. Depends on your door really. Just in case use some thread locker . Price was great. Build and finish are excellent. Highly recommend if your door is thick enough. Also if you don’t mind a big hole. * hole saw and a small file are highly recommended. Install took less then 10 min for me. With spectacular results. Wife wondered why I took so many years to get it. It is a great upgrade for the money. In her own words.

We live in an apartment. This "fisheye" peephole gives us an excellent view of anyone outside our door! But it did take a "maintenance man" with a LARGE drill bit to install it. Other than that, he said it was easy to do. Meanwhile, I have glaucoma-- so I do appreciate being able to see out our door so much more clearly! And we also like that it has a little "privacy door" on the inside (for when it isn't being used). I'll also add that it looks lovely in the gold color. It's very well made. Yes, an excellent product!

Easy install. Required a 28mm forstner drill bit which I had to order on Amazon. It's probably the same size as a 1 1/8inch, but I didn't want to missize the hole. To find the hole center I simply took a thick sheet of card stock to mark the with of the center panel of the door that the peep hole was to be mounted. Then I folded it in half to mark the midpoint. I then realigned it the height I wanted and marked. The satin metal color matched my door handles great. The view finder works great with a long eye relief. I can see the other person through the door from about a foot away from the peep hole. Nice wide angle perspective shows every inch of porch. The picture of the man in a black hat was with the man knocking on the door at arms reach distance from the door.

I ordered this after measuring the depth of the door from the side of the door and reconfirmed the depth fit (again, against the side of the door) when the new peephole arrived. My wood door has raised panels and I found (AFTER I'd drilled out the smaller/original peephole hole!) that the door depth at the panel was ~1/2" less that at the side of the door!!!! The new peephole is too long! Crap! I cant put the old peephole back in because the hole is WAY bigger now. I've not found a shorter large peephole so I now have this one sticking out of the inside of my door by ~1/2". Besides this mistake on my part, the new peephole is beautiful, well built and the view is MUCH, MUCH better than my old/small peephole. Buy the suggested ~$9 hole 1 1/10" drill bit to make the install easy. And, learn from my mistake; remove the old peephole and measure the depth BEFORE drilling the exiting hole bigger :)

Well made device. My tenant loves it for the sliding window. Provides a level of safety they did not have.
