Olympia Tools Long Pattern Wood Chisels, Set of 4 (30-184)

A great set of chisels for only $12? Seriously? You betcha! I was very pleasantly surprised with these. Fairly sharp out of the package and just a minute or two of fine honing (deburring actually) and you can split hairs. The only thing I would change is to make them just a bit longer for better control. I was going to use these as my "beater" chisels; you know, the ones you use for prying and wedging and pretty much any other task a chisel is not designed for... But not now. These will be my good chisels and I'll just have to find some other set to abuse.

I haven't used them very long yet, but I quite like them. I wanted a full set of Narex chisels, but I didn't have the money for those and these ones were available used for VERY cheap. The package had been opened but there was no sign of use on any part of the chisels. They looked like they had never been touched by human hands. Now that includes the fact that I could see the marks from the automated manufacturing process. They were not truly sharp, but before I had a chance to properly sharpen them I had a need for the 1/4" chisel (which was the main reason I bought them; I have some wider chisels already) and I used it as it came from the factory and it worked fine. Not quite as smooth as after I cleaned them up, but it worked. It took about an hour-and-a-half to flatten the backs (removing all machining marks) and sand down to 400 grit, and the same on the main bevel. I still need to do my micro bevels and polish up the microbevels and backs, but considering how well the steel has resisted my efforts I would say they are made of decent steel and should hold an edge quite well for the normal price, and amazingly well for what I paid. I will update my review if that turns out to not be the case. UPDATE ONE YEAR LATER: I couldn't be happier with these. I have abandoned my plans to buy Narex, and put on indefinite hold my plans to make my own out of some amazing D4 tool steel that I have, because these have been just wonderful. I even hand mortised openings for three heat registers in bamboo flooring. That stuff is both hard and abrasive, yet I was still able to turn a decent curl in hardwood immediately after. I would not hesitate to buy these again if they were lost or stolen. It frankly feels like I stole them since I paid less than $10 and got $100+ worth of value.

I've used these for several years now. The brand used to be good, but over the years some of the quality went down. Nonetheless, I have used this set for working on door frames and doors. I have used them both in my home and small jobs for friends. They are middle class and get the job done.

Recently bought them for installing new door knobs, they work well and haven’t had a problem!

Awesome tools for the money spent

I like that it was a set that lets me choose the size I need. Too bad it didn't have a storage bag or case. that would have made it better

These are fine. The metal is soft and loses edge easily. But for the price they are good chisels

Eu precisava de formões mais curtos que os Narex que tenho e sem o custo elevado dos formões do tipo "palm" da mesma marca. Este kit de formões foi a solução. É necessário afiar. Usando um gabarito de afiação e pedras 1.000, 2.000, 6.000 e estropo consegui resultados de alta qualidade.
