Potential deer repellant
The manufacturer might consider making larger sheets for repelling deer. NO, not deer WALKING on it. Let me explain deer behavior. My niece planted 12 trees. When male deer [bucks] grow antlers late in the year, they have a covering called velvet to grow the antlers. When the antlers have completely developed, the bucks find young saplings to rub off the velvet. This rubbing off of the velvet shreds and destroys the bark and may even kill the tree if the bark is destroyed all around the circumference of the sapling. The destroyed bark will not regenerate or grow back. The tree is permanently damaged even in partial rubbing. This is what happened to 11 of her 12 trees. The ONLY one sapling spared was one with "spikey" bark. This is where the "cactus principle" of these mats comes in. Two feet by two foot or three feet by two feet sheets could be wrapped around saplings to protect them from velvet rubbing. Moreover, deer have scent glands on the side of their head and use this to "mark" territory. My niece and I recognized immediately these prickly mats would repel this deer behavior. She added that the mats also allow the air to get to the tree bark. We can use cable ties to fix two or more of these shorter mats to cover the length of a sapling. Longer lengths would help so cable ties would not be needed.

Keeps cats away
I love cats but there is a cat that my neighbor lets out and he comes right up to my floor to ceiling window and stares at my cat. Well, all hell breaks out because my cat (indoor cat only as all cats should be) is very territorial and tries to attack the other cat from inside the house. She become extremely agitated to say the least. This spiked mat is a Godsend and works very well but I wish it was wider to keep the cat farther away from the window. I also would like it to be heavier so that I can place it outside my other window but I can't use the stakes to hold it down because there is cement there instead of soil. I have to hold it down with bricks, but all in all I don't know what I would use if it wasn't for this spiked mat!

surprise hidden gem!
I picked this up out of sheer desperation in the hopes I could rig this up to keep my cat away from my computer and corner of the room, after reading many reviews (and looking at some cute but sad photos) I figured why not just give this a try. I'm more then glad I did! This comes in a decent sized roll so you can cut to the size you need, I cut my roll into about 4 sections and laid it over the top of my PC, along the bottom front of my TV (stand actually) and at the corner where my corner shelf sits. It's been quite some time now and I'm happy to report IT WORKS!! The cat will go NEAR this but NOT on it, no more cat behind my computer, no more random.... power interruptions due to a curious kitty. This might not work for all cats (as per other reviews and photos) but I'm happy to report it did the trick for mine... for now

An Unsuccessful Battle Against the Neighborhood Cat
Oh, where do I even begin with this tale of cat deterrents gone wrong? Picture this: my dear grandma, engaged in an intense turf war with a feline invader who has audaciously claimed her front lawn as a private litter box. Determined to restore peace and cleanliness, I embarked on a quest to find a humane solution. Enter the infamous Scat Mat. With high hopes and visions of victory, I eagerly purchased the Scat Mat, believing it would be the ultimate weapon to keep the pesky cat at bay. Armed with vinegar as an additional deterrent, we strategically placed the mat on the very spot where the feline felon had committed her notorious crimes. This was it - the grand plan to save Grandma's lawn! Alas, it seems the neighborhood cat has a mischievous sense of humor. Despite our best efforts, the cat simply scoffs at the supposed deterrents in place. The Scat Mat, touted as the ultimate defense against unwanted feline intrusions, fails to impress our cunning adversary. With a nonchalant swagger, the cat casually strolls over the mat, as if mocking our feeble attempts to deter her. And to add insult to injury, she proceeds to complete her business right on top of our supposedly "scat-proof" territory. We’ve tried everything, but the cat's determination knows no bounds. She treats Grandma's lawn like her own personal litter box, defying all our efforts with each audacious deposit. While this review may not be the glowing success story we had hoped for, it certainly highlights the hilarity of our ongoing battle with the neighborhood cat. As the war rages on, we now have to regroup and devise a new plan. In the meantime, if you're seeking a good laugh and a cautionary tale about the limits of cat deterrents, go ahead and give the Scat Mat a try. Who knows, you might just end up with a front-row seat to the ongoing saga of "The Cat Who Would Not Be Deterred."

I LOVE this Mat!
I used this cat scat mat with spikes for a different reason than for cats, and it works perfectly. I had problems with squirrels jumping from a tree branch onto my bird feeders. They broke three of my bird feeders. Grrrr! So I took this mat with spikes, cut it to the right size, and wrapped it around the tree branch. I used long plastic ties to wrap the mat around the tree branch. The squirrels saw the spikes and never got on the tree branch again. What is great the birds sit on the mat without any problems. What I love about this mat it is heavy plastic and strong, plus it is easy to cut. I'm quite sure it works for cats, but it also works keeping squirrels off bird feeders.

Poor quality
Worthless....the keep rolling back up due to coming in a roll. I put some free weights on each end to keep from rolling back up and sliding. The do not stay where the are put. Slide all over. No way to hang vertically on furniture either. Gathering dust in my closet

VERY SHARP & POINTY!!!
OMG - watch your fingers. Rather than use in the garden, I bought this stuff to pin around the edge of my new sofa to keep my indoor kitties from using it as a scratching post. It was easy to install with upholstery pins and worked beautifully. Maybe too well - I had to be careful when I sat to make sure my legs didn't come into contact with the 'points.' I also trimmed it to use on the back of some new dining room chairs, although with less success. The plastic doesn't bend around corners well, so the cats were able to find areas between strips of Scat Mat to scratch. I imagine if I had issues in the yard this would be an awesome product. It is heavy duty; I trimmed it with kitchen scissors, but it is thick enough that trimming is not a quick process (more like one link at a time). I totally recommend it.

"Spikes" are too tiny to hold mat in place--useless as delivered!
The plastic mat comes tightly rolled up. You are instructed to cut free numerous "spikes," which is time consuming, annoying, and ultimately useless as the so-called "spikes" are only about an inch long, and do not penetrate deeply enough, esp. in soft ground, to hold the mat flat and in place. (I had to use a brick on each end to keep it from rolling up.) It would probably work if they included a dozen metal spikes about 8 inches long. (Just discovered there are 6" and 10" metal landscaping pins available on Amazon. I may try some of those to salvage some benefit from this purchase.)

As expected - Recommended
The only suggestion would be to include more anchors in the package. Easy to cut and modify to whatever shape you need. Make sure to use strong kitchen scissors.

Stopped cat from marking and accidents
Putting the mat in different areas that the cat was messing in kept him away. Cut-to-size, where needed, was great for corners or under or on furniture. Would highly recommend it if you are having any difficulty with urinary issues within the house. Ours was a crystal/stone issue that was causing him to go outside the litter and we tried different sprays etc. to deter but the mats did the trick!
