It was my fault that it came into the garage in the first place because I got messy with the birdseed for feeders. The previous rodents that entered the garage were always the tiny mice. I have never had a mouse previously as difficult as this particular mouse was to persuade to go elsewhere. My chihuahua/rat terrier could not convince the mouse to leave even though she chased it all over the garage multiple times. The 3 or 4 rodents that have previously took up residence in my garage never stayed for very long after they realized a dog was on the premises that would be more than happy to dispatch them if caught. I did not want to have to resort to killing the mouse as I kind of admired it's tenacity & resourcefulness. I had to resort to a glue trap a few years ago & I swore I would never do that again as it was very inhumane. My philosophy is live & let live. My adult daughter is also an ardent rodent lover with many pet mice & rats. She would have been horrified if I killed it. They are very intelligent creatures so do not be dissuaded if you do not trap them right away. It took 5 nights of being hungry before this one ever entered the trap. I baited it with peanut butter, dry peanuts & sunflower seeds. They are very cautious of anything new or different in their surroundings. Placement of the trap is also important. You have to use the appropriate size trap for the rodent you are attempting to trap. Know thy enemy! There are 3 different size rodents around my home. This was the middle size rodent with a body about 4-5" long (not including the tail). I chose this trap as the most appropriate size. If the trap is too large then the weight of the smaller rodent will not trip the cage door. This mouse was also a little large for the smaller, cheaper plastic traps as it would have been squeezed into it. Also I was not sure that the air holes in the smaller plastic traps were sufficient to allow a frightened, larger mouse to survive for a few hours in the trap. This cage has sturdy enough wire that a mouse of this size can not chew through the wire easily. The mouse had plenty of room to move around in this cage so it was a little calmer than if it had been trapped in a really small cage trap. Now a large size rat could probably do some damage to the trap or any trap if left in the cage too long. Larger rats can actually chew through concrete. This mouse had been attempting to chew through a 30 gallon cooler to get at the birdseed stored inside. It knew right where to chew as it concentrated on the area of the cooler handle where you lift the lid. It had already chewed through a plastic container used to store the sunflower seeds before I moved it to the cooler. This particular mouse is now banished to the vacant lot at the end of the street. I even threw it some seed on the ground as a good riddance gift. The cage trap remains in excellent condition & will be available for use again when the next rodent decides to make a home in my garage. I will be sure to store the birdseed in the cooler & sweep up any stray seed so hopefully I will not have another rodent problem again anytime soon. I know I can trust this cage trap for a successful catch again if I do...... Just caught my second mouse. This trap has definitely been worth the cost. The secret is to leave baited for several days. They are crafty little fellows. Took 5 days each time to trap. Left sunflower seeds at entrance also for several nights to get them close to cage then only left the seeds inside cage after the mouse was comfortable eating at the cage entrance. I set it out the afternoon upon receipt and captured 2 of the little guys then the next morning I had caught another. I still see several little guys running around and hope to relocate several more in a very short amount of time.Although technically there are no instructions included, there are pictures of how to set the trap on Amazon so just open up amazon again and look at the pictures. It's easy enough to figure out without instructions though too.People have complained about it not having a handle to pick it up but use a pair of leather gloves and it's no problem.It is probably too small for squirrels but super effective for all other smaller rodents. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars No carrying handle in the design *by S***M on Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2020* Works great for anything sized up to a ground squirrel. Trap unfortunately has no handle which makes me uneasy holding with a critter in it. We tied a rope to the top so it acts as a handle and we can additionally use it to lower into our window wells to trap those critters.
