The BEST oven mitts are these
I recently burned (via a too-close ON stovetop burner) one of these mitts . I logged on to Amazon , to my prior orders history to see if bychance these oven mitts were still available. I was so relieved to see that indeed Nouvelle still has these exact mitts available. Per my order history info i see that i purchased my current pair in October of 2013!! Wow! These mitts are the ONLY ones my husband will use. I have several differnt styled (standard squares and silicone ones) but these are my go-to for anything coming out of the oven. But my husband ONLY uses these for anything hot...whether BBQ, oven, microwave... I've even set the pair next to eachother on the counter to use as a hot mat for extra large crocks or pizza stone. I am so pleased to find them again, after finding that my original pair is nearly 12 years old!! I would've gladly paid twice the price they are listed at. The oven mitts are thick and durable and mashine washable. They protect your hands and wrists and up your forearm. Obviously to what level depends on big a person is... They are utilitarian, not cutesy, but what matters is they are superb quality. You won't be disappointed....look no further...you need these!๐๐ผ๐๐ผ

I love these gloves.
I got a burned on my wrist while pulling a dish out of a very hot oven. It was a terrible burn. I only used my stove top for over a month after my wrist finally healed. I decided I really wanted my oven in use so decided to look for something to protect my hand and part of my arm while in the oven. I looked at many types. I chose this because of looks, heat protection level and how I thought the ability of my grasping something to pull out of the oven would be. This glove set seemed to check all the boxes. I L O V E this set. I go in my hot oven with no worries, I am able to grasp what I need to when I pull it out of the oven and the best thing is the gloves almost go to my elbows and my fear of reach IN to a hot oven is now over. The quality of the gloves is great.

Not very pretty but they do the job perfectly!
I am big on home cooking, and have the scars on my forearms to show. When I first bought these in 2012, I was searching for mitts that would withstand temperatures up to around 500 because I often would burn my arms reaching for something from the oven. None of the silicone ones withstand such high temperatures (at least they didnโt when I was looking back then). Also, I didnโt want a pot holder, and I didnโt want gloves that I had to actually work to get on my hands. I wanted something that I could just throw on to grab whatever I was getting and protect my hands. Simple. When I got these I laughed at how big and bulky they are. They are definitely not for showing off when cooking a nice dinner for someone, but if you keep them in the kitchen and just throw them on when doing anything that is going to burn, getting something from the oven, handling hot pans, draining pasta (steam on the arms) these are going to do the job. I am getting a new pair today. I bought them first in 2012 and misplaced them so I got another pair in 2015 and they need to be retired. If you use them regularly, they wear out mainly where the thumb meets the mitt, the part that gets the most wear from grasping and holding things and they seem to get really stained at the spots where you are handling something. They are cream/white, so you know they are going to get dirty. If you keep them in the kitchen on a hook they just seem to grab whatever is in the air, or whatever splashes or spatters on them. These gloves are not for looks, they are going to cover your arm, and depending on how long that is, it could easily go to your elbows, these gloves are NOT kid friendly โ they are too big and bulky for little hands, so donโt let your little ones use them to help you bake. I have used them to pull out cookie sheets holding bacon that has been cooking in the oven, and have had grease spill over on them. Normally, this would be a burn, but these mitts covered my arms enough that nothing got to me. You cannot feel heat, steam or anything with them. They are terry cloth on the outside and have some kind of silver/fire retardant material quilted inside, they have loops for hooks. They are probably too big to hang for most people, but I keep them on hooks that are attached to my fridge side which is next to the oven. They are big enough that you wonโt easily lose them. You can tell when you need to replace them when you can start feeling the heat coming though. Most likely you will feel it in the joint because it gets the most wear. Also, if you are anything like me, they are going to get dirty. They are terry cloth covered and attract dirt and any spills. So, yeah, if you want function, and are serious about keeping your hands and arms safe, get these. Keep them in the kitchen, throw them on when you need, and then put them away and forget about them until the next time. You can tell when you need to replace them when you can start feeling the heat coming though. Also, if you are anything like me, they are going to get dirty. They are terry cloth covered and attract dirt and any spills. For reference I am 6-feet tall, and the pics show them going about two-thirds up my arm. High enough that I donโt catch it on the roof of the oven when pulling something out.

Decent oven mitts for the price.
I had a pair of oven mitts from Pampered Chef that I bought maybe 15 years ago. They were the best oven mitts EVER. These are not them. They look just like them. I wish they were just like them. If they were half like them I'd be happy. Okay, maybe they are half like them so I ain't even mad. Apparently, the Pampered Chef mitts have been discontinued. The thing about the Pampered Chef mitts that was so great was A) The fit. They were snug enough so that your hands didn't slide around inside them. They seem to be made to fit smaller hands. B) They weren't bulky so that you could grab a pan from the oven without dipping the thumb tip into the sauce or meat juice or cookie or whatever. C) They were so well insulated. I could pick up the hottest pan and hold it forever without fear of burning my hands. It's annoying when you're cooking and you pick up a pan and you're carrying it across the room and suddenly you feel that searing pain in the bare spot of the oven mitt and you're like get outta the way! NOW! and you toss the pan onto the closest horizontal surface. And then you're teaching the children brand new words and why you shouldn't say them in public. D) I had them for 15 years before they wore out and I was forced to replace them. These mitts are decent. They're a bit bulky and they can take the heat to a degree. They're close but not the same. I think that the difference is that the Pampered Chef mitts had the terry fabric that is on the outside on the inside as well, while these have some sort of silver fabric on the inside that is kind of slick feeling. It makes it feel like they're going to slide off your hands if you're not careful. I even tried washing them straight away to see if they would shrink a bit but they didn't really. The price was decent. They are better quality than the cheapie ones you get at the dollar store. I've looked at Williams Sonoma, Sur-la-Table, Crate and Barrel. I would pay more for a good oven mitt but they don't have anything better either. I would however, buy these again as they are better than anything else I've seen and probably will have to because I don't know if they'll last 15 years.

Excellent Product
Been using an original pair for years. This is the second order - excellent product compared to all the other materials (which we have and consider this the most practical).

Big hands? Get the mit that fits
I'm a guy that likes to cook and unbeknownst to me, I have been on a quest for oven mitts. I have purchased cute and funny mitts, mitts that match the dish towels, and even silicone mitts that promised me the world. The silicone mitts are great when I'm handling hot food, such as pulling pork or cutting up a turkey, but I never felt confident pulling a heavy pan out of the oven with them. All the other mitts shrank too much and became too small for my large hands (I can palm a basketball). Recently, I literally busted a mitt out at the seam and wanted something larger. I found these mitts on Amazon and was delighted with the people knocking their large size, but it was exactly what I wanted. Finally, I might have mitts that fits. These things are large, but not unwieldy unless your hands are very small. I have an adequate amount of dexterity while wearing, and let's be honest, if you wear oven mitts you are holding a pot or pan, not doing open heart surgery. They protect my hands from heat, so that's good. It would be a disappointment if you couldn't handle a pan from the oven while wearing oven mitts. Finally, I have washed them a few times and they come out looking good. For the cost, if I get a year or two of use out of them, then I'll be happy, any longer is just icing on the cake.

about average.
I bought these to replace a wonderful set of "barbeque mitts" I had from Lodge, which Amazon seems not to be carrying any more. Those are thick terry cloth mitts and have served us well for years. I found these searching for something similar, but they are in appearance only. The others were thick soft fabric. These have the metallic coated fabric which is generally one side of a pot holder on the inside. They are stiff and not very comfortable, or flexible. If I had known that I would not have purchased them. They do offer good heat protection, but I can not move my hands as easily when wearing them and do not get as good a grip on hot pans. I bought another set a few days before I bought this, and the other is almost laughable. It has thick silicone on the palms and up the arms. I look like a robot, or a fireman dressed to go into an inferno. It is a bit much. I bought these for when I do not need to be dressed like a first responder but the fact is that these are as stiff or stiffer as the others. Neither gives me good range of movement, and I am still hesitant to throw the old ones away. After all, only one of the 2 mitts is worn through, and the other is better than anything I have found since. Yes, these are a good deal less expensive than my old Lodge mitts, but those served us welol for nearly 20 years. These may last that long because I will not be using them as often, and am on the hunt for my third pair (this month) because neither is really what I was looking for.

As good as my previous Commercial grade mitts
These mitts have a silver-ized interior which makes them stiff during the breaking in period. I haven't washed these but that may help with the stiffness some people complain about. So far they feel like the stiffness is breaking down and they feel more comfortable each time I use them, we've had them for about 2 months. My wife is a retired pastry chef and her previous pair were well broken in and it took her awhile to feel like these would be good enough. As for myself I liked the solid feel and the obvious thermal barrier...they work well. I would recommend these for daily use at home, I am 5' 8" and have normal to small hand for my size and these fit fine, my wife's hand are a bit smaller and I haven't heard any complaints about the size from her. All in all a good buy if you're in the kitchen frequently.

Just like my discontinued Pampered Chef oven mitts but better!
I loved LOVED my Pampered Chef oven mitts. And then they discontinued them. Continued to search for something similar for, (no joke) at least three years and wore the sh!t out of my fave Pampered Chefs (holes, burn marks, stains, etc.) until they became a safety hazard. Checked Amazon again and these beauties dropped from heaven (even with feedback that they were similar to Pamper Chef mitts). Amazing price and they even have more length to protect the arms. No complaints from the hubby which is a bonus too. Arrived quickly. Should probably stock up :) Enjoy!

Oven mitts
I like the cotton outside but I am a bit disappointed with the inside. The mitts slide off my hands. Wish they were cotton on the inside as well.

What I've been looking for
Have a pair of very old pampered chef oven mitts that were discontinued. Mine are grubby and worn but couldn't find another pair I liked as well. Think I've found them yippee!

TERRIBLE! Low quality, inaccurate description, bad return options.
Oven mitts were not pure cotton; vendor would do a return but insisted we pay shipping to return it to China, so more than the cost of the item. TERRIBLE! Low quality, inaccurate description, bad return options.
