All the 1-star reviews are RIGHT, BUT.. so are the 5-star reviews.. and here’s why
So, I’ve been on the search for the BEST, “bang for your buck” foam sound-proofing panels.. and I FINALLY found them! .. However! These unfortunately do come with a “russian roulette” type of odds when it comes time to open them up. Before I ordered, I noticed all the negative reviews.. and I was quite worrisome. Since I needed these ASAP for an upcoming piano recital, which I’m recording from home. But, I just went for it.. and bought multiple packs. They arrived very quickly, each and every time I’ve ordered them. Once you open the box, you’ll see multiple packs of them. They’re all tightly bound together, in an outer plastic layer. As you rip through the first layer of plastic it will release the multiple packs (at this point you still don’t know if you got a good one.) It’s as you start to rip open one of the individual packs, you see the air either does absolutely NOTHING.. and the foam stays flat OR it fills the bag up as you are ripping the plastic; due to the expansion of the panels. This is how you can tell immediately if your whole batch is faulty or as advertised (no need to rip open the other individual packs, they’re gonna be the same as the first one you opened.) They’re either 👍🏻 or 🚮 There’s no in-between. You don’t have to wait hours, it happens immediately (at most in a few minutes.) Soaking them in water does eliminate any odors from the foam, but it doesn’t make the foam change in size (so in my opinion, a total waste of time.) The odors are honestly super minimal, nothing that should be of concern. If you want to transform your studio.. help cut down in reverb, quiet the noise between a neighbors wall, or whatever it may be.. these are the most quality you’ll find for this price point. Therefore, I highly recommend these to everyone! You will not be disappointed.. UNLESS.. you get faulty ones, but don’t fret! Just immediately go to Amazon, click return and order some new ones. They usually come next day, open them up. If they’re faulty again.. rinse and repeat. I just would hold off on returning any of them until you have exactly the amount you need in hand. Don’t expect them to ALWAYS come as pictured, as I said.. it’s about a 50/50 shot, generally. So, if you’re willing to take the risk (of wasting a little time potentially).. it’s surely worth the reward of a beautiful studio, on a budget!! Hope you have great luck and success, with whatever you choose to do with these! :)

Eliminating echos in office for hearing impaired partner.
They took some time to figure out how to get them to attach and stay attached but that's on me, not the panels I suppose. I stuck the first 24 on some pink Styrofoam panels and hung those panels on the wall with normal picture hanging hooks. The second batch I attached to a folding privacy screen, so it can be easily positioned at any time, or just folded up and stored when not needed. I used spray adhesive on some and double sided tape on others, the ones with the spray adhesive are rock solid, but the ones with double sided tape fall off regularly. If you are attaching them to a flat surface that you don't mind damaging in the event that they wont be attached forever , use spray adhesive, the stronger the better. The panels themselves work exactly as expected, the echo is completely gone, which makes videos calling for work and school so much better for hard of hearing partner. As far as people complaining about them not puffing up, I threw about 10 at a time in the dryer for 10 minutes and they puffed up perfectly. All in all I'm quite happy with them and I'm sure ill be buying more in the future.

A little trick for decompressing the tiles-
I’ll start my review with a little trick that I tried on a whim, and was very pleasantly surprised that it worked. These tiles come tightly packed like a memory foam mattress, and unbeknownst to me, it says they take 24-48 hours to puff back out. I saw other reviews sayin it took a whole week. I don’t have that kind of time, so I put the tiles in the dryer 24 at a time on “Delicate” setting with the lowest possible heat setting and a fabric softener/dryer sheet for 25 minutes. I’m not saying that everyone’s dryer will be the same or that this method would for sure be ok for everyone, but it worked like an absolute dream for me. In 25 minutes my tiles went from 1/2” to a full inch, and I was able to start my project. I hot glued them to poster board with a low temp glue gun. They seem to deaden the sound very well, and I’m pretty happy with them over all. I only gave them a 4 star rating because the decompression phase was hidden deep within the description, and I feel that sort of thing should be advertised more plainly in case people are in a hurry. The product itself functions as advertised and as well as one could expect for this price point. The only other drawback is that the tiles are not perfectly square. If you hold the tiles so that the lines are horizontal, the tiles are about a quarter inch longer from left to right than they are from bottom to top. So if you want to use them in a checkerboard pattern where you alternate the direction from tile to tile, you have to get creative to make it work.

Easy, affordable and looks great!
Highly recommend! I installed these to cut down on background noise/echo during voiceoverse for my YouTube videos. - Easy to install. - Can confirm it expands to normal size within 24 hours. - Best price in comparison to all other comparable products. - Command strips DO IN FACT work fine. You just have to use them right. I gave tips on installing with this exact product on the command strips product page if anyone needs help. If you need sound prood foam, definitely go with the 2 inch over the 1 inch. I've had both and these definitely work better. Great product!

Panel pop up when you cut the bag open
Like most foam acoustic panels, these will arrive wrapped very tightly and air sealed. When you make the first cut into the plastic to open it you will hear the air rushing in as the bag's seal is released. Both times I have ordered this now it the panels spring to life. 24 come in the pack, I would say about 20 will get to full size within 5 min or less with these, the other four took about an hour or so. Great product and great shipping, whatever this seller is doing to package their panels they are doing it right. I have another package of full adhesive back panels and when I opened the package and took them out, they are thinner then a single piece of cardboard.

THEY'RE OK. BUT LOOK CLOSE AT THE DETAILS AND PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Make sure you completely understand your sound-proofing, sound-deadening and /or dampening needs BEFORE you order these, OR ANY OTHER sound reduction product. The description is good, as is the value, but you might be disappointed if you don't define ALL of your sound reduction needs ahead of time. "Acoustic absorption refers to the process by which a material, structure, or object takes in sound energy when sound waves are encountered, as opposed to reflecting the energy. Part of the absorbed energy is transformed into heat and part is transmitted through the absorbing body. The energy transformed into heat is said to have been 'lost'. When sound from a loudspeaker collides with the walls of a room part of the sound's energy is reflected, part is transmitted, and part is absorbed into the walls. Just as the acoustic energy was transmitted through the air as pressure differentials (or deformations), the acoustic energy travels through the material which makes up the wall in the same manner. Deformation causes mechanical losses via conversion of part of the sound energy into heat, resulting in acoustic attenuation, mostly due to the wall's viscosity. Similar attenuation mechanisms apply for the air and any other medium through which sound travels."

Adhesion Recommendation
These reduce decibels by about 15% but more importantly they break up the sound so it is not coherent which is what I needed so I don't have to listen to incredibly dumb conversations on the other side of the door. Amazon recommends 3M sticky pads to mount which will work on a surface that does not experience any sort of movement - a light breeze will dismount them. What I found works far better is auto headliner adhesive spray which is easier to apply and is resistant to serious jostling - I have this on a door so they have to withstand opening, closing and being brushed up against which they now do. Combined with a draft stopper at the base of the door, which reduces the decibels another 15% this has worked wonders for my sanity.

Great look, decent sound absorbtion, just a word of advice
These things look pretty nice, they absorb a decent bit of sound, about as much as you can expect from foam. I would just reccomend you mount these on a board, and then mount that on the wall. a little space between will help it absorb more sound, and adhesive doesn't bond to the foam well, it's too porous. I was using double sided tape, and then employed a variety of other adhesive strips, but I think a different approach would save you all some time. TL;DR 4/5 pretty good just annoying to put on the walls

Comes without glue
As you can read in the highlights, it doesn't come with the adhesive. I'm adding this just so someone else doesn't go through the same thing I did. I have to admit the information was available, but I was lazy not to read it and just place the order. Otherwise, it's perfect. Don't expect the best insulation in the world, but I think we could have expected that given the price.
