Not very effective on stable flies either. I am going to change products next refill. I think my insects have become immune to it. Worked very well in The beginning. **Q: shelf life of product?** A: Really don't know. I can say we buy when drum is empty for fly spray system. Has lasted 2 years mixed up in drum. Typically, and what I use, is 1/2 gallon of the product in a about a 55 gallon drum. The rest is water, of course. My system is set to spray for 30 seconds twice daily. In a single 24 period, I noticed an 80% drop in flying insects around the building. **Q: does it damage the plants?** A: Yes it does. It leave an oily layer on everything it is spray on, and yes for small ornamental plants it kills their leafs. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ VERY effective, great instruction sheet! *by T***N on June 13, 2015* I use this in my automatic pesticide misting system. This 64 oz. (1/2 gal.) size is the right size for the 55-gal. drum system I have on my house. I'm in the Houston, TX area. It's hot, humid, and there are billions of insects around here. I had to take my system offline to repair a leak. While it was down, the insects multiplied, then spiders multiplied, then the lizards multiplied. I refilled my system with this product, mixed it according to the instructions for my system, and brought the system back online. I run the system twice daily; dusk and dawn.I brought my system back online this past Tuesday evening. By Friday evening there was a very noticeable reduction is insect AND SPIDER populations. In a mere 7 cycles, this reduced insects by a very noticeable amount 80% to 90%, I'd guess. Reduced them so much, the spiders moved on since there is nothing for them to eat.This product also comes with instructions for various dilutions (concentrations) to use in handheld sprayers for various pests. It claims (at higher concentrations) to even kill off fire ants and spiders. The instructions are very detailed and informative. This synthetic product is VERY effective, safe for mammals (except CATS!), and it's approx. $30 less expensive (at the time if this writing) than the all-natural version.UPDATE: June 2019. I’ve been using this product for the past 5 years and I’ll swear by it. I’ve tried some other chemicals from various manufacturers, e.g. Off!, etc. and nothing compares with the efficacy of this chemical. It works indoors, it works outdoors, I’ve killed or repelled a wide variety of pests. I’ve used this to spray a tree stump at the back of my property and drive off a hornets’ nest. I’ve used it to wipe out brown widow spiders and brown recluse spiders. I’ve used it to effectively reduce and control roach populations both indoors and outdoors. It’s safe for humans and safe for most mammals. It’s used on farms and ranches were this is diluted with water and literally mopped onto livestock with a sponge to eliminate bot flies (you know, the ones that lay their eggs under the skin of mammals). The manufacturer’s documentation says it’s safe for mammals except cats. I don’t know what’s different about cats, but don’t use this if you have cats. It may kill kitty. Otherwise, this stuff is gold! Probably explains why it’s always around $80 for a half gallon while the other stuff can be found at Home Depot or Lowe’s for around $8 a half gallon. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Flies, gnats and mosquitos must die *by D***H on August 8, 2024* I mix my own recipe because buying bottles for Ultra Shield Red all the time is expensive. For a 30-32 oz bottle I use 2oz of Pyranha, 0.5oz of lemon eucalyptus oil, 1-1.5oz of vanilla extract and 4oz of rubbing alcohol. I am sure to shake up the bottles before each use.
