Gorgeous light--installation huge pain
UPDATE--March 2021, Just hooked this up with an Alexa dimmer switch (already had dimmable bulbs) and it's better than before. From the kitchen, we can tell Alexa to turn on the light and dim several times if necessary. The dimmer switches can be purchased from Costco (on sale, a two-pack was $20). Can't beat that! Everyone loves the light, but with Alexa, there were many Wows! This light is absolutely gorgeous in my son's dining room. Installation is not for the impatient individual. Instructions were useless. Go to YouTube and search "FM-24 Vintage 8-Bulbs Island Cognac Glass Cluster" to watch an excellent video on installation. Be prepared for 2 people with 2 ladders and several hours of time to install the light. The globes do NOT detach so plan on wrapping each one in bubble wrap. You will need to determine the length of each light strand BEFORE you install. We set up 2 step ladders with a 2x4 board across the ladders and straddled the light over the 2x4 and started the process of determining the length of each light. Still a little difficult to determine with each globe bubble wrapped and trying to gauge how far above the dining table this would hang. Let me pause at this point to say that my son is totally remodeling this home. We've ripped out ceilings for new duct work, tore out bathrooms and kitchen, replaced outlets, switches and recently hung 3 bathroom vanity lights in this home. Over the years, we've even hung ceiling fans so as DIYs, we've had some experience. (You know by now this isn't going to go well.) The previous day we had hung the same light, but with only 3-light strands in his foyer, again with bubble wrapped globes. This didn't go well. This required a trip to Home Depot to get longer screws as the ceiling bracket wasn't lining up with the metal plate that conceals the wires. Back up the step ladder he goes and several hours later, the light finally works and he is thrilled. Of course, my ears are burning from all the language that flowed from his mouth. Now with a little practice under our belt with this type of light, let's get back to the 8-strand light in the dining room, which I'm dreading because of the previous day. But at least we have the longer screws. So we wrap the 8 lines with painter's tape to keep the bunch together and be more manageable. Now we go up TWO step ladders. I'm now straining to hold up the bulk of this 18 pound light while he wires the ceiling electrical to the light. Finally, finished and we're ready for the fantastic light show. Remove the painter's tape and all the bubble wrap and hit the switch....and you guessed it, nothing! (Chill a bottle of wine.) So we check the wall switch that we'd installed. Everything looked fine, let's install another wall switch. Still nothing. Get out the electrical tester. Switch is working, put the tester to the globes. Yep, it's getting power, but the lights aren't lighting up. Maybe it's the type of bulbs (Edison). Back to Home Depot to get regular 40 watt bulbs. Try again. Still, none of the lights are working. Makes no sense. Give up after several hours and go home to sleep on it. (Have a bottle of wine!) Next weekend--(Chill another bottle of wine!) I'm now reconciled that the light is coming down and going back for an exchange. Such dread that the process will have to start over when the new light arrives. Rewrap the globes, tie up with painter's tape and back up the step ladders to take it down and ship back. I'm ready to call an electrician, but he won't be defeated and is determined that a new one of the same will work. I'm again hoisting most of the weight of the light when he discovers that one wire his slipped loose. Take it down and redo the wire nuts and all the electrical tape again and back up the step ladders we go. Take the bubble wrap off, remove painter's tape and hit the switch. It's a magnificent light show!!!!!!!! It was well worth all the hassle. Toast with a glass of wine! Suggestions: If you have 9-foot ceilings, use real ladders, step ladders aren't quite tall enough, watch the YouTube video I mentioned above and if you don't have unrelenting determination, call an electrician.

Stunning chandelier for a great price!
Wow! This is a strikingly beautiful chandelier. Lots of compliments received. Great value for the price. The install wasn't as bad as expected based on other reviews. The bulb domes look huge in the package but once it is put together it is perfect for a 6 person table. The cords are adjustable for customization. We used Edison long 60 watt bulbs with orange filament, but I may change to white because it is a bit too orange.

Good Value Fixture, Difficult Installation
We had to replace a similar (and almost twice as expensive) light fixture after it was accidentally broken. While there are some elements about the other fixture I preferred (the mounting brackets were far superior), it turns out this unit is a remarkably good value in comparison. First, let's start with the stuff I didn't like: 1) Installation is ghastly. The instructions are nearly useless. My seller emailed me a link to a Youtube video for installation, which would have been a little helpful but even it doesn't cover all the steps. I wish you a hearty good luck. I can only offer this bit of advice (without writing several paragraphs detailing every step): Do everything you can to secure all the wires before attempting final fitting to the ceiling. You can do it so that the only think you'll have to attach at the end is the grounding wire, the white and black wires, and the mounting bolts. Setting the cable lengths for each globe can be tricky as there are several different sizes and shapes of globe. It takes lots of pre-planning and some trial-and-error, but it's worth it, trust me. Also, you will need at least one friend for the final lift into place as it is very heavy and unwieldy. Two is better so they can take turns with the holding. With all the glass and metal it's probably close to twenty pounds. (If you can hold a wiggly jiggly fragile 20 pounds over your head for 15 minutes without a break -- because you won't get a break once the final installation starts -- I applaud you.) 2) The mounting bracket is wimpy. In the picture I attached you can see the "I"-bar that is bending away from the ceiling. The metal base of the fixture attaches to the four corners of the "I"-bar. The bracket metal is too thin to rely solely on the center screws to hold everything up, so you need to reinforce it by drilling more holes in your ceiling and using drywall anchors (included in the kit) to pin the distal portions of the bracket to the ceiling. I wish they'd simply used better materials in the mounting bracket so I didn't have to puncture my ceiling more than necessary. You will need a screwdriver (power drill recommended) and a wire stripper/cutter if you don't want a few extra yards of cable wound up in the base after you set the eight bulb hanging lengths. Installation took me over 3 hours from the start of unboxing. Please bear in mind that I had previously installed a very similar fixture, so I had a big leg-up mentally... Here's the stuff I do like: 1) Everything you need is included in the kit. There's even stuff in there you don't need. (I presume they planned for several contingencies.) 2) One of the biggest sources of frustration with this unit may also be it's biggest asset: Customization. There is a wide range of lengths you can choose for each of the cables and globes, meaning you can fit this fixture to your space. It can hug the ceiling or dangle over a table. It's up to you. Getting there is half the fun, right? (Sigh.) 3) After adding in some low-wattage (required because of the eight sockets) Edison-style bulbs, it looks really nice! 4) Compared to the far more expensive unit we replaced, it's visually, functionally, and practically identical. Thus, this light fixture is a fantastic value, in my opinion. If the installation doesn't scare you off, you'll be rewarded with a fine light fixture.

Beautiful light fixture. PITA to put up. Get heavy duty butterfly anchors!!!
Yes sad to say directions are NOT written well. But the so worth the time. This is such an amazing piece. UPDATE- we were lightly ( and I mean barely touching ) dusting the glass and half of our mounting pulled from ceiling. PLEASE get anchoring heavy duty anchors DO NOT USE what comes in the poorly written directions kit. Still VERY much LOVE this fixture. But it’s a PITA to put up. 2 of the glass shades had slight hairline chips when I got ( I let that go )as if you weren’t LOOKING for it no one noticed. But this last issue caused the hairline crack to get much bigger. Again I turned the shade so crack is on inside and didnt have to deal with taking lights down AGAIN

Pro tip.
We got this light beciase it’s a fraction of the cost of the one they used to sell at PB and I think it looks just as good. I installed this by myself and I didn’t think it was incredibly hard. You do need to install at least 2 wing nut anchors on the ends as the fixture is just too heavy to be heal by the vent bracket. I just put one in each end of the bracket and it worked great. I recommend that you set the distance if the main screws that poke through the fixture plate BEFORE you put the bracket in the ceiling. You can set the lights in the fixture to the heights you want before it’s installed if you put the fixture between two dinning chair tops. This is how I did it… then I would pull the bulbs up and set the height and layout I wanted, then locked them in. After that you can easily stand on a ladder or table with the full fixture on your shoulder and set it in place. If you go slow, the bulbs won’t knock together too much. Great product so far!

I am Obsessed- but difficult install
beautiful but hard to install Like others have mentioned, it’s a beast to install. Pro tip, use a ladder, board and jack stand. My husband was the muscle and my arms gave out and are still hurting the next day from this. After we got it installed, two of the lights didn’t turn on so my husband had to tinker with it. That’s when we wised you got the head lamp, and jack stand. A few recommendations for the company is to 1) consider putting recommended hanging ratios. Half of the challenge was figuring out what height to hang each light at. 2) provide glass protectors for each glass so these don’t shatter or crack upon installation . 3) provide recommendations of how to install with two people ie. Ladder and jack stand. Even with 2 people this was almost impossible to install without a ladder supporting the light fixture.

Looks Amazing , Impossible Install
Want to test your marriage ? Then this is the light to get. First and foremost, the installation instructions are completely useless, as it does not even show how to assemble the fixture but with a little patience it can we done as a DIY project. Here are some tips: 1. Fully assemble the light fixture on the ground, and ensure the wire length is correct, they cannot be adjusted once installed. 2. TEST the light fixture on the ground to ensure ALL electrical connections are correct. We used a cheap extension chord, cut one end, and wire knotted it to the fixture. 3. In order to help with the mounting we attached a 14 gauge romex cable to the fixture which allowed us to make the electrical connection on the junction box in the ceiling first, with the light on the ground. 4. Attach the mounting bracket to the junction box 5. Here is fun the fun part- with EVERYTHING ASSEMBLED you must raise the fixture to the ceiling, and attach it to the bracket with the included nuts. It took us about 2 hours to install, good look!!

Not for the DIYers and you WILL need some additional items to hang this light!
Let me start by stating that I am 55 years old and have installed countless lights and ceiling fans over the years. I am a more advanced DIYer and have a good working knowledge of basic wiring, etc. I've hung similar lights to this one and thought the other reviews were probably from less experienced people than myself and this shouldn't be a big deal. I'll probably knock this out in 30-40 minutes. WRONG! This light humbled me. This light caused me to do and say things that my wife of 30 years had never heard nor seen! The following are a few tips for hanging this light. Hopefully, if you read this, you will be more prepared than I was and it might save you some time. First, this is absolutely a two person job. Second, you will need to run to your hardware store and buy some toggle bolts, thick bubble wrap, and a variety bag of wire nuts. Do not count on the directions for any help. They are completely worthless and don't even make sense. For example, here is a direct quote from the instructions: "Do not install on a table or floor where gray water in not yet dry or wet." That statement contains no typos on my part. The globes are not removable so, as many others have stated, you must wrap them in something to protect them while hanging. Otherwise, they'll bang into each other and shatter. All of the cords are the same length. So, if you want the staggered look, you'll need to decide on the lengths before assembling this thing. Once assembled, you can adjust the cords. But, you will have to remove the fixture from the ceiling. So, make sure you're happy with the cord lengths before hanging. You will have 8 cords coming into one box to connect to your wires. That is insane and unsafe. And, the wire nuts provided will not hold more than 3 wires. I used a section of wire I cut from one of the cords I wanted shorter. I then connected 4 of the incoming cords to the one wire. I did this on both ends of the light. That way, I only had to connect 2 lines to the power supply instead of 8. Something else worth noting is that the insulation on the provided wiring is thin and is easily peeled from the wires causing possible exposed wiring. So, be very careful when stripping these wires. The base that you attach this fixture to is attached to your ceiling. NOT the junctions box. So, understand that you will be putting holes in your ceiling. Also, they provide cheap sheet rock anchors to stick in your ceiling. DO NOT use them. This light weighs about 20 pounds. They will pull out of your ceiling and you'll end up with this light fixture shattered all over the floor, or worse, some person. I used 3 toggle bolts and I did attach it to the junction box using an old fixture bracket from the fixture I was replacing. On the bracket are 4 adjustable bolts with nuts to secure them in place. These bolts poke through the base of the fixture for you to screw the end-caps on to. Make sure to measure correctly and secure the bolts before trying to hang this thing. Otherwise, they'll slide around making it nearly impossible to get all four of them through their holes at the same time. So, now that you've wrapped your globes, secured all of your incoming cords, securely attached your bracket to the ceiling, and said a few prayers, its time to hang it. This is where you need a second, or even third person and another ladder. Someone will have to hold this 20 pound light fixture up to the ceiling, tilted, while you are connecting the power supply and ground wire. Once the wires are all connected, then you'll need to feed the 4 bolts through the 4 holes on the corners of the base. All, while the globes are swinging around and ceiling stippling is falling in your face. Fun times! The good news is that once the light is hanging securely, you'll have a tremendous sense of accomplishment and a beautiful fixture! You may want to make sure there are no children around as you may use some r-rated language during the process.
