Great little axe for the money. Has that tactical look, which I guess is cool. Mine hangs off my backpack in an old flashlight loop I have. It's very light in the handle and heavy in the axe head, which makes it swing hard and chop solid. I took it out and chopped some small pine trees and it tore right through them without any dulling, although the black coating did wear a little bit and there is some scratching. So if cosmetic appearance is more important than functionality then this isn't for you, or you just shouldn't use it. But if you need a cheap, useful tool then it's great. All in all a great tomahawk for camping and general duty. The attached photos are after the first days use.

I ordered this for my emergency kit to keep in my car. I already have a small hand axe but, it's way too small to really cut anything substantial. I also have a nice sized rock hammer and while it's good for digging into the ground and crushing rock, it's not very practical for a survival situation. Now I have the M48 Hawk and it's a really wonderful tool for my kit bag. 1st - while it is a small, personal axe; the handle is long enough to use with two hands to really get some power into the swing to be able to dig into or take down some decent diameter firewood. 2nd - the pick on the back allows for entrenching like my rock hammer but, I am able to cut and entrench in one tool. Yes, I know, the back edge is more for personal defense and breaching, however, it is good to be able to dig a water channel around your camping site so you don't get wet or dig for water in an old river bed as well. 3rd - the nylon handle makes it quite a bit lighter overall and with it being so blade heavy, you really get some power on the down stroke, kind of like you get with a kukri. 4th - since the blade is stainless, I'm very much hoping I will be able to keep it in my car and not have to worry about rust spots from condensation from temperature fluctuations. Overall, a very good investment in camping, emergency survival equipment.

I bought this for a friend as a surprise but had it shipped to my house first to handle it and make sure I wasn't sending something cheap that would break easily or just plain looked like it came from a quarter machine. This tomahawk is amazing! You can tell from handling that the handle is very sturdy and the whole thing is very solid. Its not full tang but seems very strong never the less. I think the over all aesthetic design is beastly, you just want to throw it and bash things. Fun to look at and even better to hold. The center of mass is great, making this easy to maneuver. Choking up high on the handle makes easy work of fine/ close cuts or for making kindle shavings. This would be great for camping as well as throwing! And the blade is sharp right out of the sheath; I easily sliced my thumb taking it out the first time-I was so impressed with the edge I wasn't even angry I got cut. I won't be hesitating to purchase another one for myself.

I purchased the US M48 out of curiosity. It had good reviews, something that I'm not familiar seeing on United cutlery products, I've bought some of their stuff in the past to see what it was all about. Anyway! Moving on, I have a few other hawks, I have the SOG fasthawk, and the GG&G Battle, so something at the top and bottom end of this scale. I must say that the M48 is a nice tool, granted not as nice as my GG&G, but it didn't cost me $250 either. I went out trekking this weekend and as far as people complaining about the handle breaking under the third screw, I have to say there must be bad batches. I worked my blade this weekend, certainly past the point of breaking a handle if it were going to break under normal to failrly harsher than normal conditions. The black coat on the blade doesn't seem to be the best, as I've rubbed off a fair portion of it just over a weekend of testing use. However with good blade care this blade will last. It throws better than my fasthawk if thats what you're in to, and even in an attempt to test those broken handle reviews I even chopped down a small tree with it, around 10 inches in diameter....I know this isn't what a hawk is for, I'm aware, but I set out to break this thing...and I failed. The balance is great, the handle is eh... but functional, I did a paracord wrap on mine to help with gripability if you will. I love the fact that this thing whistles when flying through the air! On a scale using a functionality to cost ratio comparing these 2 hawks, I would rate this M48 as a solid 8. My GG&G is my favorite, but I'm afraid to have too much fun with it since it cost so much. This is a solid hawk, that was cheap, so If I throw it and miss my target and lose it...no biggy easily replaced at $30. I carry it with me more than my battle hawk now.

I had a few choices when I purchaced my Tomahawk. I saw the picture of the M-48 Hawk and went with it. It came in the mail and I dont think I have ever been so excited to get a package. I opened it and gazed upon the awsomeness of the M-48 Hawk. It isnt an ornamental Tomahawk by any chance. Its solid and feels good in your hand. I felt like I could take on anything. The finish on the tomahawk added to its perfection, nice and dark, black , and it makes the metal smooth. I threw it and it stuck the first throw, really, really, awsome. I Thank the good people of United Cutlery for making such a fine product. I will enjoy it for a long, long time. THANK YOU. David B. This is fun little Hawk. This is my first one, and it is quite easy to get the hang of throwing. The point and tip of the blade are very sharp, so I would make sure to be very careful when using this, but that is expected. I've hit the handle many times and it still stands up to the challenge. I would suggest this to anyone interested in a reasonable priced Hawk.

This gets a full 5 stars for a hand to hand combat weapon. One thing, why the hell are people using this as a throwing axe??!! If you want a throwing axe, dont buy this!

Die Optik ist sehr gut - nun muß sich die Axt auch noch beim Camping bewähren. Den Griff habe ich mir mit Leder beklebt, so liegt die Axt auch noch bestens in der Hand

Wie schon geschrieben.....habe ausgeholt und mit schmackes auf ein dicken Baumstamm geschmissen. Der Stiel ist genau dort gebrochen wo der Metallschaft aufhört, definitiv ne Schwachstelle und absolut unbrauchbar. Habe schon Erfahrung mit Werfen von Messer also kommt mir nicht mit Laie ode zu dumm zum werfen. Würde man wenigstens nen neuen Stiel bestellen können würde ich 3Sterne verteilen aber so leider nur 1 Stern. Condor Throwing Axe Double Bit kann ich empfehlen die is wenigstens an einem Stück und seit nem halben Jahr immer noch in Gebrauch
