SUPER
The first sprayer I got was defective. The screw mechanism in the handle did not work properly. I discovered this by the video on Chapin's website, demonstrating how their TriLock system works, and for which Chapin should be commended. Great video. I emailed Chapin and got no response after three days (actually no response ever). I emailed Amazon, describing the problem, and within one hour, while I was still answering emails, I got an email back from customer service, telling me a replacement order was already placed, one-day shipping, and a link to a label for printing out to send back the defective product. How can you beat that for fast service. Amazon is GREAT! The replacement sprayer has been working perfectly, but I really had to learn how that lock system works. If any other purchaser does find it frustrating to figure out, go to the website and watch the demo video. Once you get the hang of it, it's really so simple and super. The quality of construction and metal material is tops. The tank is nicely enameled on the outside in shiny red that appears heavy duty durable. Coated on the inside as said in manufacturer's description. When filled with solution (I bought it for weed spraying exclusively about my 2.5 acres), it is too heavy to carry around. I use bungee cords to strap it on my little garden dolly and wheel it around. I looked for a better option than hand pumping, but found only one portable battery operated which is all plastic (hate plastic anything) and the ATV 12-volt battery kind are overkill. So I reluctantly settled on the Chapin because it is advertised as professional quality. And it is. 20 fast and easy pumps last over half the 3.5 gallon tank. Doing all my acreage takes only pumping 20 pumps twice, when the old 2 gallon Solo took 30 and more pumps over a dozen times. The Solo took over 30 pumps even when new, but as it got older required more frequent exhausting pumping until it just quit. Even the "feel" of the pumping action of the Chapin substantiates a precision-made product The wand is not so long as I like, 24", but better than 18" as on so many box-store sprayers. It is all quality metal and too well made and its performance too good to replace with the 36" extension wand I bought for the Solo, which has a plastic nozzle as opposed to Chapin's brass nozzles. There are two unadjustable; one broad spray, the other spot spray. There is a handy holster attached to the side of the tank for carrying the wand and extra nozzle or more. It is black plastic, but even the plastic appears durable. I don't like Chapin's customer service (they could have at least acknowledged my email). I love the product. And once again I have to laud Amazon for its professional integrity and superior business policies of standing behind the products it sells, which make just about all other giant corporations small in those qualities.

dont believe the negative reviews
I was very hesitant to buy this sprayer because of the negative reviews claiming the seal leaks. Now that I have it I am convinced the people that had problems were using it incorrectly. There is definitely a "trick" to getting the assembly to seal properly. If you are mechanically inclined you can examine the mechanism and it will be apparent how it works. Otherwise, watch the excellent video that the manufacturer posted and you will have no problem getting it to seal properly. Pros: well made. everything important is made of metal (from the pictures i though the handle was plastic, but nope, its metal). Cons: The wand holder clipped to the side is plastic, and it rattles around making it feel cheap. but it does the job fine. The nozzle does continue to drip a lot after you release the trigger. This is probably unavoidable when using a big nozzle. The pipe between the nozzle and trigger is obviously full of fluid even after the trigger is released. Gravity is going to make it drip out. maybe with a finer nozzle or a thicker fluid this wouldn't happen... There is no safety pressure release valve. Theoretically, thats not a problem if you follow the manual, which says dont spray anything flammable, and drain the tank after each use. But overall I still give it 5 start and would recommend it to anyone thats considering it.

Quality
Chapin builds a quality product. Right out of the box I knew I got what I paid for. I tested it with water to be sure it held pressure and sprayed as expected. Does a great job. Many complain about the function of the top. Not here. While yes it is different since it's not a simply screw on top, the design is clearly superior to screw on's that often go on tight and are tighter coming off. The Chapin design will clearly resolve this issue. It comes with two different flow fan tips which are exactly what I need, but if you need an adjustable flow cone tip you'll need to get that separate. I'm going to use some fuel line hose with a slice in to to put on the bottom to protect it and surfaces from it. Coming with some rubber bumpers on the bottom would be my only recommendation.

Well built - pretty decent sprayer
Well built for sure. Built to last. Two spray nozzles were supplied with the sprayer with two different GPM's. I would prefer to have an adjustable nozzle also supplied. The locking mechanism for the pump handle works great but a took a bit to figure out how to use it. All in all a pretty good sprayer but not a 5 star for the stated reasons IMO.

CHEAP CHINA โSTEELโ!
I would give this zero stars if possible. Made in the USA from โglobally sourced materialsโ. Translation: Cheap China steel. Iโve only used this sprayer on my residence spraying RM43 (stronger version of Roundup) weeds, and once spraying concrete sealer on the driveway. Iโve used this a total of about a dozen times. Flushed thoroughly after each use (I take care of the things I own). Stored in the garage for about a year when I noticed the paint bubbling on the pump, so I stored it inside the house. Went to spray for springtime weeds last week and noticed pinhole leaks spewing RM43 on my legs. Contacted Chapin. They refused to replace the tank as it was out of warranty. DO NOT BUY CHAPIN PRODUCTS! GLORIFIED JUNK! Should have bit the bullet and paid the price for an Airofog or B&G pump sprayer. Now Iโm out $168.

Sprayer the pros use
Works great for sealing my concrete landscape edge every year or three. Save a ton of money doing it myself and itโs super easy to do with this sprayer. Glad I found one slightly used on Amazon and for a significant discount.

Help for 1st time users of a tri-lock Chapin sprayer.
I have a stamped concrete patio and a new driveway I have to seal every year and the $30 hardware store sprayer wasn't cutting it and I don't want to pay someone $500 to do it. So I bought this 1949 Chapin sprayer because it was rated #1 by an independent report. Still, a lot of folks here have complaints and I want to address those. With the patio power-washed (me) I got outside at 0730 with my new sprayer. But, I couldn't figure out the tri-lock system. The instructions provided were as clear as mud so I went to their suggested help site which put me on YouTube. Look at the picture (above) and you'll see the handle connected to a nut on top of the lock. Everything I watched showed that nut unscrewing from the pump top (both painted black) but mine seemed to be one piece!!! After struggling with it for an hour I finally put a wrench to that nut and hoping I didn't break it put some muscle into it (removed from the tank for this). POP! The nut came loose! It seemed to be powder coated right to the lid or tightened down too hard from the factory. Voila! It was now simple to put the tri-lock on and pump it up with the nut behaving as it's supposed to. Using the tip that came on the wand I noticed the sealer was coming out too heavy and had to use a roller as I went. I also noticed the tip and wand leaking (as was complained about here) so I used pliers to tighten them both down and no more leaks! After doing half the patio I decided to change tips and wouldn't you know that was the proper one to use. The 1st one allowed twice as much product per minute as the 2nd one and really improved the job. Hope this helps, remember: 1)Crack that top nut open 2)Tighten the wand and tip fittings 3)Use the tip that's not attached from the factory

Missing step in instructions
Nice, pro sprayer. But, the instructions are missing a step. On every sprayer have had before, you put the pump in, and lock the handle, then twist it further to compress the gasket, with the wings continuing to move clockwise until it is tight. right? But this one is different, and CAN lead you to think it is defective because you can't tighten it down. Take out the pump. holding the 3-wing thing in one hand, turn the handle. Notice that it is screwing the wings up and down, via some internal threads. This is how it is different from those cheapy sprayers. Now, turn the handle counterclockwise, until the the wings screw all the way down. This is the missing step. If you don't do this, and it's screwed all the way up, you will not be able to proceed. Now, with the wing part screwed all the way down, and the handle locked into the pump, per the correct part of the instructions, place the pump in the tank and rotate it clockwise until it hits the stop, about 1/8 of a turn. Now, as you turn the handle clockwise, you will notice that the wings are not rotating, but the top is being compressed down onto the gasket, via the internal threads inside the handle mechanism. You're welcome. have a great slab.

Quality product
Used it with a 0.1 gpm fitting to seal my patios. Very good product. Pay attention to the o-ring on the top lid - it fell off into the canister (full of sealer) after a refill. It was no problem to reinstall it though.
