It was me, and at least 1 little bloodsucking at night in a closed room, about 15 ft by 10 ft, by 10 ft. I spent half an hour looking for 'em, trying to swat him, and missing every time. Finally I got the zapper lamp from my car, and returned to the room. Of course, then I couldn't find 'em. Figured he'd escaped when I went out for the lamp. But then he zipped past my face. So I powered up the UV and shut off the room lights. Now the only light was the lantern on the desk, and the Computer display. He buzzed the display twice (and I again failed to catch/smash him) but then, BZZT! Dead Mosquito. I went to turn the lights back on, and as I hit the switch, BZZT! Apparently there were two of 'em. Both now past-tense. As for range, these things are line of sight, power of light attractors. If there is a brighter light around, it will reduce their effectiveness. If there is only one bug, it may not even get it. But if there is a swarm, expect to be cleaning the grill later. (I prefer canned air, and a toothpick if they are really fried on in place.) It works for Mosquito and Gnat sized light attracted flying things. I have seen a Moth get zapped, then wake up and fly away, only to come back again. Flys and wasps don't seem to be attracted. (I did find 1 dead fly once.) **Q: How do you clean it?** A: I clean mine with a Qtip **Q: Will it kill flys?** A: It's for kill mosquito and can't kill flys,Maybe you can try it. **Q: How long is the battery life if you just use it for zapping mosquitos? I'd like to get a bug zapper for my next camping trip to use inside my tent.** A: I have two different look a like brands, for two different rooms of the house! They zap fruit flies and small flying moths. I have NOT been camping with them. After 2 yrs of use they both stay on about 8-10 hrs.
