Of my five cats, one of the boys has a tendency to urinate at fairly high velocity and it just about shoots vertically. He also frequently doesn't crouch/hunker down, so many times he hits the seam directly and urine leaks through. I have "pee pads" under the litter pan to collect these accidents so it doesn't wreck the furniture or floor, but I do wish this would be addressed by the manufacturer. My husband is going crazy from this.** A: It doesn’t remove litter from the paws, but it does help keep more litter inside the box. I use a wood pellet type litter and it has drastically reduced the amount of pellets getting outside the box. Also, if the hood is detaching from the box, then it isn’t actually fully attached. The top doesn’t snap to the bottom. A couple of times the cat knocked it off. I need to affix it if I want this to stop. Could drill a few holes for a zip ties. Or, use a few twisty’s left over from something else I’ve saved. Other than this for the price this is a wonderful box. Helpful tip. How I clean plastic boxes … Own tow boxes. Makes for easy swapping and cleaning. Remove dirty box. Fill clean with litter. Give to cat. Once the litter is removed rinse. Then, add a few tablespoons of bleach. Add a little water. Let sit overnight. Next day rinse. Wipe out any litter residue. Rinse again. Let dry upside down in bathtub. Ready to go for next time. If against bleach, once the box has soaked and wiped. Add a bit of white vinegar. Or, peroxide. Wipe around. Then rinse. Another option, once the box is soaked and rinsed add a bit of baking soda then a bit of white vinegar. Let it fizzle. Wipe with paper towel and rinse. I’ve had great success with plastic boxes long term with simple cleaning strategies. Keeping hygienic for the kitty or cats. This box is worth the price and its function. I’m using it for a feral cat who decided I’m his best friend. He comes inside to sleep in a large kennel at night or when it’s cold or raining.
