1958 Ford 651 Tractor
I bought this for my 651 Workmaster. Being a child of the '80s, I never owned a car with points (not even my '72 Duster had them, though I can't remember if it had electronic ignition from the factory or if someone converted it when they swapped engines). I never set points in my life, so when my step-father gave me his tractor that he had owned for 42 years, I had very little knowledge about the ignition of a tractor that he had owned 4 years before I was born, let alone something that was new when Ike was still President. When he gave it to me, he had bought a new tractor and this one wasn't running well. I spent a lot of time trouble shooting and found that I was getting weak spark. I bought a points kit from the local dealer (plus a cap, rotor, plugs and wires) and put them in, but I just could not get it to run any better and at times not at all no matter how many times I tried to set the points by the manual, what the local dealer had told me and what I found online. It had also been converted to 12 volts a few years ago. I finally decided to take the leap and by this. I ordered these on a Friday and had them Saturday with Amazon Prime. I also bought this coil because it didn't know what one I had: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00199BO4C/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00. I had both installed in about 30 minutes and what a difference! It starts much fast then it used to and the spark is bright! I would highly recommend this if you have issues with points. I know there are some hard core tractor guys out there that would turn their nose up at electronic ignitors, but I wish I had done this sooner! The instructions were well written, but I did find a online video that Pertronix put out that showed how they went in just to make sure that I did it right. Save your old points and parts, you may need them someday and there is no modification to the distributor, so you can go back.

The electronic module was easy to install.
I ordered the Pantronix ignition through Amazon. When it came it only was in a padded envelope! The Pantronix box containing the electronics was crushed down in areas. Very poor packaging for such a expensive and delicate part. My only worry is, I hope it did not do any damage and shorten the life of it. It works well at this time, but I don't use the tractor a lot, so time will tell. Make sure you read the instructions! You can't use solid copper spark plug wires with this!!! Also, make sure you have the correct coil!! NOTE: You need a full 12 volts feeding this unit, and make sure there is not a resister in the line! I had a resister so I bypassed it. I also had to order a new 3 ohm coil, and I had to order plug wires. Works great, fires right up, better throttle response.

Easy install
This thing works great. My tractor starts and runs a lot better.

Did not work
Installed it and immediately had a no-spark/no-start condition. Reinstalled the original points and the tractor started and ran normally, so the issue is the electronic ignition. I also noticed several other reviews reporting the same problem. Hopefully the seller can address the quality issue. If I receive a replacement that works properly, I’ll update my review.

Great for side mount 8N distributor
What a impact. Tractor starts much easier and feels stronger. Exhaust fumes are significantly better as well.

Works - No worry about point gap, point wear.
My Brother in Law installed this on my 8N (12 Volt negative ground). Works great. Points work but are fiddly to set up and can go out of adjustment. This makes things simple and the tractor seems to work more reliably, easier start on first try. We added a rubber washer between the magnet ring and the rotor to make sure the magnet did not float up the shaft - but I don't think it is really necessary. Also, the company warns you not to leave they power on for a long time without the engine running but on an 8N I have a knife disconnect and key. Matched with a Pertronix 28010 Flame Thrower Coil this gives me a feeling of confidence that the spark will be there.

Should have used this many years ago
I noticed the difference in the starting of the motor and it does run better. The company who makes this has a very easy web site to navigate and if you don`t find your motor they tell you to phone their technications and they will help you. Everything fit exactly in the old distributor. And it comes with easy to follow instructions.

Excellent product, easy install with help from Youtube!
Excellent product, easy install with help from YouTube. Getting rid of the points was the best thing I could have done for this 1954 Ford Tractor. The difference now is massive, fast starting, better idling, better starting in cold weather.
