Polar Obsession

I am a zoo volunteer at the Polar Bear habitat so this book really touches my heart. Beautiful pictures coupled with well-written narrative. Makes for a beautiful sofa table book.

I got this as a gift and it was a fantastic success. The pictures are gorgeous and the text is interesting, its truly a one of a kind book. I did a lot of research and this book contains photos you cant find anywhere else... TIP: If you know someone who likes narwhals, this will leave them speechless...don't even look at anything else, this is what you should buy for them. I HIGHLY recommend this book. As an animal lover with a great appreciation for photography, I consider this to be one of my all time best Amazon purchases.

Heard the author on NPR and bought it as a Christmas present to my husband and myself. It is a beautiful coffee table book; it is quite large (approx16x13),so it would not travel easily. The pictures are awesome! From listening to the author on NPR he tells how the pictures are taken, which is amazing! I have just started reading it and I am sure it will be well worth the read. A in AZ.

Beautiful and inspiring almost beyond words Paul Nicklen has produced a book that stays in the minds eye long after the first look. I no doubt will dream of seals and bears for weeks to come. Well written and photographed with a skill and passion expected of a National Geographic photographer Paul Nicklen has really done it proud. What I wouldnt give to have been there myself is the feeling you get. What more could you ask for in a book?

I am a photographer but have never seen polar bears. I have shot black and grizzly bears and have high hopes of one day seeing/shooting polar bears, but until I do, this book with it's incredible photography makes me feel that I have seen polar bears as well!

Paul Nicklen is one amazing man and an outstanding photographer. The book is such a superb quality item that I highly recommend it to anyone into wildlife, animals, photography, adventure or whatever gets you going. Not only does it contain loads of beautiful images but these also come with very interesting texts and explanations. I am very happy that books like these exist! Thank you Paul!

The book is beautiful! However, quality control by the publisher/distributor is needed. I ordered this for my son for Christmas, the first book the dust cover was filthy with a pasty white gunk, the second book the binding was broken which he found when he opened it on Chritmas morning. The third book was fine, but arrived after Christmas--way after. My son was patient, and so was I. Fortunately he had other things under the tree. The book itself deserves 5 stars, but with the stress and disappointment it actually should be 3 stars so I compromised at 4.

Having spent a few years making a living at photography in the past, I developed a love for the art as well as an appreciation of how difficult it is to get the absolute perfect shot. This book has lots of those. Some of the photos are just stunning, and give you both a frisson just looking at them, as well as wondering how the heck Nicklen got the shots the way he did. Page after page, I was delighted. Whether you buy this book as a coffee table volume to show how cultured you are, or whether you truly enjoy looking at amazing photos, this is a great volume. Nicklen, along with Steve McCurry, have earned their spots as amazing photographers and I've given copies of this book to several people to enjoy. Absolutely stunning.

Ein wunderschönes Buch mit grandiosen Bildern. Das Buch ist auch gut verarbeitet. Man blättert lange und hat viel von dem Bildband. Ich entdecke immer noch neue Details. Wer sich für Fotografie oder den Nordpol interessiert sollte sich dieses Buch kaufen.
