Great book for fans of the game and the series (review contains some spoilers)
Great book for fans of the video game series, and this particular game that it's based on. It gives more details about why Athena wanted Kratos to kill Ares and explains that she persuaded the other gods (and how) into helping Kratos by giving him powers or weapons. She did not persuade Zeus, who knew what Athena was doing, but he helped Kratos (as both himself and the gravedigger) regardless as he wanted Kratos to become the God of War. Some things are omitted. For example, in the game, he meets Hades who gives him the Army of Hades magic power. That's omitted. And in the game, Athena gives Kratos the Blades of Athena after he takes the throne as the new God of War. That is also omitted. He instead receives Athena's Blade in the beginning of the second book. Hermes, who wasn't in the game, appears in the book and informs Athena about various things relating to Kratos, such as when Kratos tried to commit suicide. For those who have never played the games, or this particular game that it's based on, it's still a good and fun book.

God of War
Great twist on Greek Mythology! Love how almost all the mythical creatures are included. Would like to see a fight between Kratos and Talos (from the movie "Jason and the Argonauts"). Yeah, I know Talos was only 8 feet tall in the real story, but this book has no problems taking liberties with original narratives.

Amazing!!! Brutal and gory but Amazing!!!
Absolutely loved this book! My husband and I had gotten the new God of War game which takes place years after the original series that this book is based on. Instead of trying to find the time to play the game since I have kids and not wanting to just read the wiki I bought this book. I’m not disappointed at all! This was brilliant, even if it is a play by play of some of the battles. For someone who hasn’t played the games and wants to know about the series, this is brutally beautiful (and I mean that in the best way possible). I have even watched, after finishing the book, an hour or so long video on YouTube that’s just the main points of the game/cutscenes (I think the channel is called GameMovies) and it was awesome to see it all after reading the book! So worth it and the price on the kindle. 10/10 Best book! Gonna grab the next one as soon as I can!

Bloody slaughter, start to end
Its a book that inspires video games, or the other way round. Fast paced, hardly a page goes by without action - ridiculous. Very basic character development. If you start it you will probably want to finish it but it does not compare to the excellent caine books in any remote way. In fact I cannot believe its the same author. Read it only if you have no choice.

WOW!!!!!! First for everything!!!
This is my 1st audio book and it was absolutely amazing. I've played the entire God of War series video game on playstation. When I saw this I knew it was a must have. It was absolutely amazing!! I played God of War many years ago and I just relive the whole experience. It was amazing listening to his description and actually be able to visualize that part of the game once again. I am definitely going to go looking for God of War part 2 book right now

After coming to the franchise late, I went back and played through all the games that came before the latest, absolutely revelling in the blood and tragedy of Kratos' saga, and began to seek out any and all the surrounding media, beginning with this book. This is everything I expected, but written in a hand better than I presumed for the novelisation of a video game. Though not in the league of lauded fantasy writing, the tale is told well, handling the story more than capably, including the ordeal of pacing and parsing the many battles and puzzles in the game. The most enjoyable aspect about this book are the scenes on Olympus of Athena and Zeus, which give much greater insight to the former and an amusing look at the Skyfather who we become far better acquainted with as the franchise progresses. The narrative of the game and aspects that are most pressing and amusing are woven into a tale that is both familiar enough to not enrage intense fans, while taking enough liberty and interpretation that the story has some freshness, as well as pacing the events more appropriately for reading, apposed to playing. However, the Temple of Pandora is somewhat laborious, although this is somewhat to be expected, and at least the swirling blades in the Underworld don't reflect my hours of furious repetition and enraged frustration. If I were to ask more it would be to have had the action a little more visceral and immediate in its realisation and some greater insight into the inner-workings of the mid of the Ghost of Sparta, though I do understand Kratos is more of a singularly driven being not prone to philosophy and introspection. A solid effort and I look forward to the second book, saddened that there isn't a book of the third game of the side adventures.
