It really works!
This double sided hand chain saw really works! We had to add a weight to the end of the rope to get it over the branch, but once in place, it works well. Its nice to have it double sided, so it doesn't matter which way it lands on a branch. It does occasionally get stuck....but we've been able to free it up and have taken down several branches. My husband was skeptical at first....but now finds it to be a valuable tool! No more climbing on ladders!!

Works great!
Throw it over a high limb and saw it off! The chain can get stuck on the limb. If that happens, throw one end back over the branch and yank on it to unstick it. I was lucky to get it unstuck every time. Have some patience. In the end, it works great and far faster and safer than climbing the tree to reach a high branch.

Tricky but worth it
I read numerous reviews regarding this product and many had merit however if you take some basic precautions, it can be a very effective tool. What is good about this one lies in it having the cutting teeth on both sides of the chain...that is essential. The blade is very effective and can cut through thick branches quickly. I used it on branches that were up to 10" in diameter on limbs about 15' up. I can't speak to how long the tool will last but I will say that without it, my only option was to pay someone to come out and cut the high branches I need removed and that would have been costly...as in, at least 20x the cost of this tool. What I found to be important was to have two people, one on either side, pulling the cord. Also, the chain needs to be keep straight...in other words, the other person pulling needs to be pulling with the cord and chain in a straight line in relation to the other person. If you are pulling it at an angle, the chain is almost certainly going to get lodged and you can bend it. Further, you need to make best efforts to have the chain as flat/straight as possible versus curved into the wood as you cut. To do so, you want to step back as much as you can versus standing right under the limb you are cutting...again, this helps prevent the chain from being pulled tightly into the branch you are cutting and subsequently jammed into the cutting groove. Even in the best of circumstances, it can and will get stuck but we were able to get it out with a little pulling back and forth. We cut about 6 big branches in no time. You actually spend more time tossing the line over the branch than cutting it. Which leads me to my last piece of advice...I took the bag that holds the kit and placed a rock in it and attached on side of the cord to the bag...I then used the weighted bag to toss over the branch I wanted to cut...that helped us more effectively get the line over...versus trying to toss the handle over which can get stuck and doesn't have enough weight to naturally pull it down...the cord and handle are too light and thus can get stuck just on the bark of the limb.

Constant jamming
The idea behind this chain was to make a very aggressive cut in both directions of the pull, so the cutting teeth are angled out in both directions. The problem is that after 2 or 3 pulls, the chain jams in the cut because of the angled teeth, and it is impossible to pull free. Forget about using the included paracord to cut a limb. It is better to use static lines used in rock climbing. However, even with the easier to pull static lines, it still jams and is impossible to free. I have used many such chains successfully before. However, none with such an aggressive cut and constant jamming. If the chain cut was less aggressive, it would not jam so bad and be easier to pull free. But....

Steep learning curve
The tool works, but you need a lot of patience to use it. It took me several attempts to get my limb down. The limb was approximately 20 feet up among other branches and 6-7 inches in diameter. The tool cuts great, but as other reviewers mentioned, it can bind up in the limb. I used chainsaw lubricant on the chain per the reviews. It helps. My issue was mainly the S hooks the rope inserts into. The rope would back off the hook if I got too aggressive, and I would have to start over. My solution was to close the open ends of the S very carefully with a hammer.

Worked very poorly, at least in my application.
This may be user related, but I'm sharing so others can avoid my frustration. I bought this to cut a high limb about 12 inches thick. Very dead. I found this very difficult to use. Saw consistantly was jammed in the branch. After finally using all my weight to try to bounce it free for the third time the clip opened an sent the rope flying to me. Finally cut the tree down to retrieve the saw and mitigate the risk of the half cut (therefore dangerous) limb. I understand it may have been the size or condition of the branch or maybe the angle, although we were very careful to be symmetrical. I do feel this would be great for smaller branches and the cut was relatively aggressive. ymmv.

Works good
Works good. Used to cut 2” limbs about 15ft high.

I purchased this item to remove 6 inch branches 25+ up on this OAK. We used a longer rope weighted with hardware to simplify the process of pulling the chain into position as the branch was as high as the rope is long and you can not throw the weighted rope with the chain attached. If a single person is pulling from below or 45 degrees it will bind as the branch weight pinches. However with two pulling spread apart, the branch is cut from the top and was easily managed. Much safer than cutting with a chain saw or pole saw from ladder. Taking on branches 35 feet up next.
