so I had a pretty good idea of how it would be
I have been using this oven for a little over a month now and it is what I hoped it would be. It is mounted under one of my kitchen cabinets, freeing up that footprint on the countertop. It is a replacement for an older Black and Decker Space Maker toaster oven, so I had a pretty good idea of how it would be. Over the years, the oven has been updated, and this one is digital. As such, it is not completely intuitive to operate, so I had to get out the instruction booklet. However, the instructions are easy to read and follow, so I was up and running after a quick scan of the booklet. I have had especially to get used to the timing button which has to be set every time the oven function is used. I had thought the oven would remain on until switched off, but rather it has an adjustable time control that will turn the oven off when it expires. In that respect, it operates much like a toaster. This is a safety bonus; I will never have to worry about whether I turned the oven off or not. Once I learned the new controls, I have been able to use both the oven and the the toaster functions easily. All in all, the fact it mounts up off the cabinet top and out of the way makes having to learn the controls worth the effort. And if it lasts as long as the oven it replaced, then it certainly will be an excellent choice for me.

A Solid OVEN TOASTER!
Quality Solid Oven Toaster. I say oven toaster as opposed to toaster oven because I honestly believe this unit will be used to do so much more than toast. Its oven area is nicely sized. It has a solid 10.25 x 9.5 cooking area. In fact for those of you who are going to purchase this do not forget to order this: Delonghi XU18PS Tempered Pizza Stone. I looked all over the internet for a good oven tray and then it occurred to me why not get a cooking stone so that pizzas crisp up well and just about anything can be set on it to warm up like egg rolls and all sorts of bite size baking snacks. This Delonghi Stone fits perfectly in the oven like it was made for it. The only negative thing about the oven is that the oven did not come with a toaster tray. But you can find em all over anyways for cheap so no biggie there. This oven toaster came with the under cabinet mount so I am not sure why someone else said it did not. Also the stencil worked PERFECTLY for spacing the four X points if you do the following: What I did was put the mount under the cabinet exactly where I needed it. I then marked two of the front holes with a thin long nail and then drilled on the marks because marking all four holes this way would not be accurate as there is some play with the nail I used to mark the holes. I then took the stencil paper and cut out from the stencil just along all four drill spots to make a rectangle that matched the mounts screw holes. X to X to X to X and placed the paper on the shelf with one corner directly on the two front holes I drilled. I was able to mark and drill all the other holes accurately from the stencil and it was perfectly spaced and centered for the rack which mounted perfectly. It was tricky using the gap spacers so be ready to deal with that fun. I recommend that they manufacture spacers that will fit snugly or screw onto the down mount bolts so that they do not fall off when mounting. Just as a tip, if you put the down bolts through the holes and then wrap the bolt that sticks out on the underside of the cabinet with white teflon tape that plumbers use just thick enough so that the spacers stay snugly on the bolt than you should avoid a spectacle of three stooges proportions ;) Someone mentioned that they only had one set of 4 bolts but I was given 4 long and 4 short so the long ones worked with my typical cupboard lip. I also was given 12 spacers, 4 each of thin, med, long. You should only need spacers for the back two bolts and not the front if you mount the mount flush with the edge of the cupboard instead of inside the lip of the edge as the edge holds it very tight and snugly. One last things, there was a great tip by someone else to unscrew and remove the legs on the oven because it looks better. I would partially agree with this... However I recommend only removing the front which gives it a nice clean look and also the back legs cannot be seen when left on and have a hook that goes up the back of the oven which is for excess cord holding. I orginally took them off in the back but realized the rear legs have a dual purpose and put them back on and they cannot be seen and are useful for the cord so it does not droop down. As a side note I was impressed with the way this was packaged and shipped. Double boxed and solid as a rock! The door feels solid and I like the electronic features. It matches my GE stove and fridge and dishwasher perfectly. This is my 2nd under the cabinet Spacemaker Oven Toaster and it is much better than the first one from soup to nuts because the heating element on the bottom and the top is a chunky 1/2 inch thick and not the pencil thickness.

Works fine once you get it installed.
I like that it goes under the cabinet. I don't like clutter on my counter tops. I like the size. I like the look. I don't like that they took the broil feature away. I didn't like the installation. I had the older version which finally crapped out after 21 years of loyal service and it was pretty straight forward but this thing isn't. I read some reviews that said they couldn't keep it from falling down. I've not had that problem but the method isn't what I'd call one that I trusted. This one is a bit deeper than the old one but not in a bad way. It simply uses under counter space that would've been, well not used. I would've given it a 5 star review if had not been for the installation. I'm pretty handy......I do a lot of my own repairs and building. I just completed a complete renovation of my basement so I'm pretty sure tackling a toaster oven install fits within my scope of ability but this thing wasn't all that good. The directions were backward and in some places wrong. Someone failed to proof them. My toaster oven arrived damaged. I reported it to Black and Decker who told me they would send me a new one once I cut the plug off and sent them a picture. I've been down this road with them before.......I told them I would be willing to do that but I needed to know they were shipping. They gave me a pass that was 3 mos ago. I called the other day and they are still out of stock. Now the damaged one works but the rack was bent. I bent it, to the best of my ability, as straight as I could but it is still bent and 2 of the rungs aren't even attached on one end. I had this same kind of problem with their under the counter coffeepot which is why I didn't want to cut the cord. It took me nearly 6 mos to get that straightened out. You'd think with the current Tiny House movement they'd be a bit better in design. I really wish someone would come along with some dynamite under the cabinet appliances so I could move away from Spectrum aka Black and Decker.

Great Product, Do Recommend
I highly recommend this product. I bought it in 2017 and initially used it under the top cabinet, but after moving to a new house, it now sits on the counter. The quality is excellent. Besides using my oven, I can rely on it as a backup to bake fish or vegetables in foil packets, reheat food, and more. The heat output varies depending on what’s being cooked.

Newer Version of an Old Favorite
I was very disappointed when B+D changed the mounting for the SpaceSaver ovens. Rather than spend $40 every three years to replace the oven (and simply slide it into place), now I have to spend MUCH more and hang another version of B+D's infernal mounting devices. First: the oven is essentially the same as the old analog version. It has a digital temperature indicator, but I don't know if it's any more accurate than the former analog version. Also, the rack no longer has the little doo-hickey that would slide the rack out as you open the overn door. Mounting is typical B+D. Throw away the instructions and the mounting hardware, they will only frustrate you. I took the hood, temporarily fastened it to the cabinet with two C clamps, drilled starter holes through the mounting holes, then used my own screws and spacers to mount the oven hood. I used screws that were one-quarter inch longer than those supplied by B+D and spacers that fit more tightly on the screws (the B+D spacers were so loose, they recommended someone help hold the spacers rather than provide spacers that actually fit the screws) (SIGH). The oven works fine. No complaints. It does (as some mentioned) require three pokes at the buttons to toast (as opposed to simply pushing the lever on the analog model), but that's what's so great about technology for technology's sake: You can have a kewl digital display that requires more work and provides no discernable advantage, yet people still buy the product. Go ahead and buy it.

Black & Decker Toaster Oven Model TROS1000D - One Buyer's in Depth Review
This toaster oven isn't really bad and looks pretty cool, but it could definitely benefit from some improvements. As other buyers have noted, the wire food rack is placed too high in the oven to keep food from burning when heating or reheating. Try placing a piece of aluminum foil over the item you are heating to avoid this issue. It really helps. Unfortunately, the higher placement of the rack also limits the height of the item (such as a baked potato) that can be cooked. Regarding toast, I have had no issues, as it has has been toasting bread evenly for me. However, other purchasers have complained that it burns their toast on the top. Also, as other reviewers have pointed out, there is no "Top Brown" / Broil” setting, so if you are looking to toast a bagel, or something else you only want toasted on one side, plan on having it toast both sides. Even if you were to use a tray (not provided), the bottom heating element is still burning up electricity right along with your hard earned cash. Ok, so here is a less than perfect solution; place the cut side of the bagel, etc. down facing the bottom heating element. Then lay a piece of aluminum foil over the top of the item to reflect the heat of the top element away from what you're heating. Not perfect, but It does pretty much remedy the problem. On the other hand, considering the price you must pay for this little puppy, it shouldn't be necessary to ‘jerry rig’ it, especially when a fairly simple fix by the manufacturer could resolve the problem entirely. Bad on you Black and Decker! Not to be entirely negative, I do like the digital timer and oven temperature controls, and it actually does have a 30 minute timer, not just 15 minutes, as some users have reported. This new digital set-up does take a bit of getting used to, but it's nothing major unless you happen to be anti-technology. The instructions are pretty straight forward, so I recommend reading them to minimize any confusion. Overall, I see it as a nice improvement over the toaster oven controls on previous models, though I do suspect the real reason this product isn't as good as it could be is that there are no other competing under-counter mountable toaster ovens in existence. That is, with the exception of older B & D models. This gives Black and Decker little or no incentive to make the improvements necessary to make it an excellent product rather than just a mediocre one. Not to put too fine a point on it, the universal unspoken corporate mission statement, "No competition? No improvements necessary.” seems to be what we're stuck with. That is, unless enough people boycott the product until B & D decides it’s in their best interest to make it better. An unlikely scenario, as there are no alternatives to choose from. Case in point, I bought one despite its shortcomings. One other thing. I had a heck of a time getting the holes for the mounting hood drilled correctly and had to re-drill them. It could just be a poor ability on my part to follow instructions, but even so it's kind of tough to try and drill up from the bottom. That’s especially the case if your back and neck is too stiff to drill from that angle. That position was definitely a 'no go' for me, so I had to drill from the top down. I don't have any helpful advice on mounting the hood, except to tell you to measure carefully at least twice so that you only have to drill once. You may also need some longer metric screws and extra spacers, depending on the design of your cabinet. You can make extra spacers by using a bunch of small washers. Tip: The original spacers are not snug when placed on the screws, so to keep them from sliding off (a very annoying problem) use a properly threaded nut on the bottom of the screw to keep things in place. If you are replacing an older model use the spacers that came with it, as they fit snugly on the screws.Try Home Depot, Lowe’s, or a nut and bolt specialty store to find longer screws and nuts that will fit properly. Be sure to take the mounting hood with you to be certain you get the correct screws. The actual placing of the unit into the mounting hood was MUCH simpler on the older models, where by virtue of its design, the toaster oven simply slid into place with ease. On this model, getting it to attach securely to the hood was, for me at least, an exercise in frustration. I'm quite sure my neighbors wondered what I was cursing so loudly about. Ok, I'm not a mechanical genius, but this was way more difficult that it should have been. I seriously doubt that the person who wrote the mounting instructions has actually tried to install one from start to finish on a cabinet that didn't have a flat (flush) bottom. Like I said though, it might just be me. Here's wishing you the best in your mounting efforts. By the way, if your cabinet does have a flat bottom, you'll have a much easier time of it. No spacers or longer screws required. Now, considering the high price of this unit relative to non under-counter mount models, they should have at least included an oven tray. Even a poorly made one would be better than none at all. In that regard, if you do want a good tray, it's pretty unlikely you'll find one that's a perfect fit. I did a lot of internet searching with no success. First though, I called Black and Decker, but they were of no help at all and suggested that I should "check the internet". Gosh, thanks B & D! That's what I call top notch customer service. Sarcasm aside, it wasn't the representative's fault. It's Black and Decker's apparent lack of interest in providing real customer satisfaction. Fortunately, there IS an oven pan that nicely fits the bill. It's the "TeamFar Toaster Oven Pan Tray with Cooling Rack, Stainless Steel Toaster Ovenware broiler Pan". The size is 8''x10''x1''. Not a 100% perfect fit, but very very good. It's also non toxic, rust free, easy to clean and dishwasher safe. It sells for $14.99 and is available on (of all places) Amazon.com and ships free for Prime members. Just copy and paste the above description within quotes into the Amazon search window and it should pop right up. Ok, so here's the bottom line. if you really need to have an under-counter mount toaster oven and you can't find, or are unwilling to settle for a good used B & D analog model, the TROS1000D is ok. Let me clarify that a little bit. Years ago I had a good part in a local musical stage production. Though I thought I was great, the newspaper reviewer’s article noted, for all to see, that I was adequate, but not outstanding. That, unfortunately, is how I have to rate this toaster oven.

Installation Is Not That Difficult
Like many of the reviewers, my old style B&D Under-Counter Toaster Oven finally failed. After reading many, many reviews, my only concern was the proclaimed difficulty experienced by many reviewers concerning the installation process. At least one reviewer claimed that his new unit wasn't intended to be mounted under a cabinet with an overhang. This is not correct. My cabinet has an overhang of 1 1/4" and I was able to mount my unit without any issues. The overhang mounting procedure is clearly explained and illustrated in the instructions. Many other reviewers experienced difficulty and frustration while attempting to affix the toaster oven to the attached mounting hardware. I did not. I just followed the instructions: (rear clips attach first, then pull out and up [toward you] on the bottom front feet until the top front of the unit firmly locks onto the top front clips). I don't use this oven for baking, so I can't comment on that function. But for toast and reheating pizza, for instance, it functions fine. Here are a few things that I ran into that might help someone: [1] If your cabinet has an overhang of 1 1/4" (BOTTOM of overhang to BOTTOM of shelf; measure behind overhang) you'll need 3" machine screws (5mm-0.80 thread). The longest screws supplied with the product are 2 3/8". Save yourself aggravation and have the 3" screws on-hand. [2] Again, for cabinets with overhangs, the instructions direct you to fold the template on the line that represents the THICKNESS of your overhang trim (mine is 3/4"). However, when I folded my template on the 3/4" line I found (during a dry run) that it would have caused the unit to be mounted 1/4" too much forward, which, in turn, would cause the top of the mounting hardware to extend 1/4" beyond the face of the cabinet overhang, exposing the void in the mounting hardware. For whatever reason, the 1/2" fold line worked perfectly for me. [3] You don't have to tape the template to the bottom of the cabinet shelf and drill the mounting holes from underneath. If it's easier for you to drill from the top, you can. Here's what you need to do: Use an awl or a nail to poke a hole through the four marked drill spots on your template. Fold your template on the line corresponding with your overhang thickness (if applicable), but remember to fold it BACKWARDS (the printed side of the template will not be visible when drilling from the top, but it doesn't have to be. The fold will localize the position of your template, and the holes you made with an awl or a nail will be visible. Remember to align the fold with the backside of the overhang trim (if applicable); this would be where the actual shelf begins. That's all you need to do to drill from the top. But remember, PRINTED SIDE DOWN WHEN DRILLING FROM THE TOP!

A vedry good toaster oven
Not the greatest set of instructions but we made it work and the toaster oven is great. I would have been better had B & D considered those of us with older model Spacemaker so the holes would line up

love it
Fairly easy to install and works great. Love the extra space I now have.

Works perfectly!!
Connection of oven to the mounting bracket is a little tricky. The ears that hook in to the notch at the top of the toaster bend very easily. Be careful. I just gently bent mine back with some small pliers.

Great Product
Like most people, I had one of these for years until the Space Saver was discontinued. While Black and Decker has returned with a great digital replacement, the price has gone up dramatically. Great product, gives respect to the toast function of the appliance (most of the competitors are largely ovens with a lame toast feature) and I am buying another one for my cottage. My only issue is with the price. Otherwise, thank you Black and Decker for re-introducing it again.
