Shel Silverstein, the New York Times bestselling author of The Giving Tree , A Light in the Attic , Falling Up , and Every Thing On It, has created a poetry collection that is outrageously funny and deeply profound. Come in . . . for where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silverstein's world begins. You'll meet a boy who turns into a TV set, and a girl who eats a whale. The Unicorn and the Bloath live there, and so does Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout who will not take the garbage out. It is a place where you wash your shadow and plant diamond gardens, a place where shoes fly, sisters are auctioned off, and crocodiles go to the dentist. Shel Silverstein's masterful collection of poems and drawings stretches the bounds of imagination and will be cherished by readers of all ages. This is a collection that belongs on everyone's bookshelf. Makes a great gift for special occasions such as holidays, birthdays, and graduation. And don't miss Runny Babbit Returns , the new book by Shel Silverstein! Review: Where the Sidewalk Ends: A Whimsical Walk Through Silverstein's Mind - "Where the Sidewalk Ends" by Shel Silverstein is more than a book; it's a whimsical wander through the corridors of imagination, where every turn is a delightful surprise. This collection isn't just read; it's experienced, inviting readers of all ages to take a stroll in a world where the absurd and profound dance hand in hand. From the very first poem, Silverstein's unique voice captivates. His words are a playful mix of the nonsensical and insightful, weaving a tapestry that tickles the funny bone and tugs at the heartstrings. It's like being at a party where the guests include a mischievous sense of humor and a deep-seated wisdom. The illustrations are integral to the charm of this collection. Each drawing, with its deceptively simple lines, captures the essence of the poems, bringing them to life in a way that is as unexpected as it is endearing. The pages become a gallery of moments, each a window into a whimsical yet strangely familiar world. The themes of the poems are a testament to Silverstein's genius. He tackles everything from childhood fantasies to poignant reflections on life, all with a lightness of touch that makes even the most profound thoughts feel like featherweight musings. TL;DR: "Where the Sidewalk Ends" is a masterpiece of children's literature that adults will cherish equally. It's a book that reminds us of the joy of imagination, the beauty of words, and the endless possibilities that lie where the sidewalk ends and the imagination begins. Review: Great Book - It was the perfect book. I was able to take the photo I wanted.

He is the best, he’s so relatable, especially to me everybody perceives him in different ways, that’s beautiful that’s what art is. I love to see how people react when they read any one of his amazing books. I absolutely adore him and all that he does the way he thinks and rights it’s for every age Anytime of day just perfection, especially his book the giving tree.

Love this book.
Going to a baby shower and was asked to bring a book from your childhood to share with the baby. I asked all my children and this was one of the books my older child wanted on the list. Love this book.

Perfect Gift For A Young and Old
I grew up with this book in the 1970's-early 80's - it's a legit classic! My favorite poem is the one about beans and sardines! (I had to do a presentation in the 3rd grade reciting and acting out a poem for an assignment and I picked this poem, making "sardines" out of felt - I still have one several decades later!!!) We have dear friends with young children who recently moved into a new home. I gave a copy of this book to their 4th grader as a housewarming present. I've also given it as a Christmas present, as I mentioned earlier, it's a classic and must have for every booklovers library!

Fun nostalgia. Great for early readers.
This is an amazing book that I remember reading in elementary school in the early 90s. I picked it up as a gift for my niece that has learned to read over the past year; she was enchanted by it!

Great read for anybody at any age
Where the Sidewalk Ends has stayed popular for decades because it mixes humor, honesty, and imagination in a way that lands with kids and adults. The poems are easy to read, smart, and quick to stick in your memory. Silverstein’s simple drawings make the book even more inviting. It remains a favorite because it feels free, playful, and sincere.

Really funny
What a lovely book of funny poems for children and - even more - for adults. Original, innovative, full of glorious fantasies and play with words and the "normal" few of things and situations.
