Best stuff for safely removing skunk odor
I've used lots of concoctions and commercial products to get rid of skunk funk but this is the best stuff around. Tomato juice is pretty much completely ineffective ... don't waste your time. While the hydrogen peroxide/baking soda/dish soap concoction is quite effective, it's harsh on your pet's skin and, being as harsh as it is, can't be used around their faces. And let's be honest here, most dogs are too stupid to get their faces out of the way when a skunk raises its tail so your almost certainly going to have to try to de-skunk your pet's snout, ears, or head at some point. I've sprayed Skunk-Off right on my dog's snout and probably even in his eyes a bit ... hey, when a dog is thrashing around trying get the skunk smell off his face, one doesn't have much chance for precision pointing ... without any sort of bad reaction. Could certain dogs be overly sensitive to this formula and have a reaction? Probably ... but I've never had a problem with it and the local vet hasn't mentioned problems either. The shampoo is great stuff, too, and highly recommended but I always keep some of the spray on hand to do some rapid deodorizing before bringing the dog into the house for more thorough washing in the tub with the shampoo. The best thing about this product, though, is that it can also be used on carpets, furniture, clothes, etc., if the dog manages to get in the house and rubs the skunk spray on other things. I've even put some in the washing machine and managed to save some jeans that would have otherwise been tossed due to the dog rubbing skunk on them. The scent of the Skunk-Off spray can be a little strong at first ... WAY better than the skunk smell, though! ... but subsides within a few days to a week or so. I've found that opening windows and letting the house air out for a day is usually enough to get rid of any lingering Skunk-Off residual smell. Untreated with this product, carpets, furniture, and clothes can smell for months if not longer with the effect of leaving everything in your house faintly smelling of skunk. This spray does need to be used with a heavy application, though, so you might want to keep a few bottles on hand if you live in a skunky area. The dog's fur needs to be pretty thoroughly wetted and rubbed in to get down onto the skin for the product to be maximally effective. I've found that a quick wetting of carpeting is usually enough for a light contamination but you may have to get down on your hands and knees and smell around for more heavily contaminated carpet to target with a more soaking treatment.

This stuff works miracles!!!!!
I don't often leave reviews anymore, but when an especially effective product comes along to solve a really distressing situation, it deserves kudos in abundance!!! My dog messed with the southbound end of a northbound skunk and got a face full of skunk funk spray. She ran in the house, rubbing her face on furniture and flooring before I could corral her. The online recipe of hydrogen peroxide/baking soda/dish soap worked wonders for removing the odor from most of her, but for her face. This formula has two big drawbacks: it whitens whatever it touches, and is too harsh to use around a pet's eyes and nose. Finding Skunk Off was a blessing! It does not cause whitining and is a bit safer for use on a pet's face. Not only did it help with the odor on the dog's face, but I have safely used it with great results as a damp mop on my laminate flooring and on dark leather furniture. Be sure you thoroughly saturate to the skin when applying and let it sit on the skin the recommended amount of time before rinsing off. I apparently missed doing that in a little area on one side of my dog's face and will be retreating it.

If you're reading this - my condolences. Good product with some caveats.
Writing this about three months since our dog's encounter. He got a good spray right in the face, and unfortunately got it in the house. The initial skunk smell is so different from the stinky weed smell you get from the road. We thought he ate rat poison, tried to wash it off, and in the process got it on our hands and across the house. There is no silver bullet to get rid of this. The hydrogen peroxide / dawn / baking soda thing works a little bit. Natures miracle works a little as well. I think the straight dawn baths helped. Don't bother with tomato juice. Skunk off works moderately well among a proverbial kitchen sink that won't do much to help. It works by cutting some of the actual skunk smell, but it also masks it with it's own odor. It smells like one of the less offensive urinal cakes. We used it on couches, carpet, and bathed the dog in it several times. It cut the smell by about 30 percent each time. The lingering skunk smell started to go away at around the three week mark. Our dog still stinks if you smell his head or get him wet. The downside - some things still are retaining the "skunk off" product smell. I rubbed some on guitars down with a paper towel that I accidentally touched, and I can still smell it on my fingers when I play them. Better than skunk, but in retrospect I think I would have let the things that weren't as bad air out for a month before using the product. This is probably the only thing I'd recommend buying from the experience. The spray bottle is crappy so buy in bulk and get your own spray bottles. If you have hydrogen peroxide / baking soda / dawn try that as well. In all honesty, it will take much longer than you'd like to get rid of the smell. Godspeed and good luck.

Best skunk smell remover out there
Best skunk smell remover out there; this stuff works amazingly well. This product smells a bit "perfumy" (kind of a Febreze type of smell), but this isn't a mask. Our dogs were sprayed in the face at close range. One had her mouth open and ingested some of the spray - her face swelled up and she was vomiting - so we visited the emergency vet (this happened late at night). We purchased the Skunk-Off shampoo as well as the Liquid Soaker from the vet, and it worked great. The soaker was in an 8 oz bottle, so it didn't go much further than our two dogs, and the vet had sold us her last bottle. The dogs had run back into the house and rubbed their faces on our carpets and furniture before we realized what had happened, so our house smelled horrible. One of our dogs had also vomited in the house as well as in the car on the way to the vet. We couldn't find the Skunk-Off product locally, so we purchased Nature's Miracle. It worked okay - it reduced the smell, but didn't eliminate it. So we bought two of the 32 ounce Skunk-Off Liquid Soaker bottles from Amazon (couldn't get the product shipped overnight, unfortunately). The spray bottles are great - we were able to spray the furniture, carpets, even the walls. I sprayed our floors and then mopped, sprayed the walls of the shower (bathed the dogs in the tub the night of "the incident"), and re-washed their collars and leashes, the shower curtain, the clothes we were wearing, and the rags we had used to wipe off the worst of the skunk spray from our dogs' faces (all previously washed with the Nature's Miracle product, but they still smelled). The Nature's Miracle seemed to work less well in the car - I think the heat brings out the smell of skunk - so we went back over the inside of the car with the Skunk-Off (never been so grateful to have two cars - the skunky car stayed parked in the garage until we received the Skunk-Off). I just wish we could have received the product faster (or found it in a local store) - four days in a skunky house was NOT our idea of fun! I strongly recommend both the Skunk-Off soaker and the shampoo - if you are looking for a product that really works to get rid of the awful smell of skunk, this is the one you want. If you have a situation like ours where the skunk smell is in your house, buy two of the 32 oz bottles - you'll go through it faster than you think (especially if you have skunk smelling laundry to take care of)!

Helps but didnโt eliminate the smell
This helped neutralize the smell but it did not eliminate it. It didnโt last but it did help. The smell is not offensive and dissipates pretty fast so I didnโt mind it. Unfortunately, the skunk smell still came back.

The one and only cure for being skunked
I've heard all the folklore and tried probably all of the remedies anyone can imagine for a pet that has been sprayed by a skunk. Believe me, this is the ONLY one out there that actually works. After a family of skunks moved into our yard, we enjoyed the thrill of a 2 a.m. skunk crisis about twice a week for an entire summer. Both dogs took direct hits from multiple hostiles on numerous occasions, particularly in July near the full moon when the little black-and-white striped terrorists were at the height of their nefarious activities. We tried tomato juice, vinegar, odor mute, a bunch of other brands of skunk sprays--all of which were "guaranteed"--and probably any other folk remedy that could be found after numerous deep dives on Google, and, much to our dismay, our dogs remained saturated in the choking burnt-rubber smell of concentrated skunk-funk for days one end following the encounters. If you've ever tried to decontaminate a dog that has been blasted by a skunk so severely that the monster has marked your pet's fur with a giant yellow stain of shame at 2 a.m., you'll know that you never get used to the smell, and that concentrated skunk spray always induces dry heaves and a crippling headache after prolonged exposure. At that point, you'll suddenly understand just how important it is to have an actual product on hand that will quickly and effectively eliminate the bulk of the odor. Skunk-Off in the trigger-spray soaker became a Godsend for us. Not only does the liquid quickly knock down and eliminate the odor, but the big spray bottle makes it easy to saturate the affected area quickly and effectively. No more dry heaves, no more angry neighbors awakened by frantic F-Bombs in the wee hours of the morning, no more staggering, drooling pets crippled by the tail gun of America's most feared chemical-warfare warrior-animal. We keep at least one 32-oz bottle on hand at all times (Remember: you can't use it if you don't have it!) Although a 32-oz bottle be used effectively for about four applications of a moderate skunk drive-by spraying, you'll need to use 16 ounces to deal with a direct hit from short range. You never know when your pet will be skunked, and the odds are that it will happen at the least convenient time. Stock up before it happens and save yourself heartache. (By the way, if you find yourself ill-equipped and facing a skunk crisis with no Skunk-Off on hand, the one folk remedy that we came up with that works pretty well is the application of Dawn dishwashing liquid, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide in the following manner: dissolve one box of baking soda in a quart of warm water and set aside. Wet the animal down with a garden hose. Wearing rubber gloves, work a generous amount of Dawn into the sprayed areas and work up a good suds. Use the baking-soda water mixture to rinse away the slurry of dish soap and skunk funk. Rinse again with clear water. Repeat if necessary. Rinse affected area with hydrogen peroxide. Let peroxide stay on area for a few minutes. Rinse animal well with clean water. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL NOT TO GET ANY OF THESE MATERIALS IN YOUR PET'S EYES OR INSIDE THE EARS!) One final note: Skunks are God's creatures and also a pretty fine barometer for your pet's ability to learn, so please don't kill them. After two blasts, our one dog figured out that skunks should be avoided and she hasn't been sprayed in a long, long time; the other one never seemed to figure out the connection between skunks and getting sprayed and he continues to have a terrific knack for being sprayed directly in the muzzle from short range. All that said, please don't kill skunks (but remember that they can carry rabies). Skunks can be effectively trapped alive and relocated if they become a nuisance. You or a wildlife professional can do this if you are so inclined or if you have money to spare. The best defense is making your property unattractive to skunks. You can figure out how to do this using The Google. Good luck!

You need this!
Iโve read some of the other reviews and I canโt believe this product isnโt rated at least 4.7 or 4.8 stars. I bought this product on May 7 of 2023, so nearly 2 years ago to the day. One of my dogs got sprayed again last night. I remembered seeing this sitting in our dog supplies crate, factory sealed. We ordered it right after our first dog was sprayed, to keep on hand just in case. We used doggie shampoo, peroxide and a baking soda solution on him. He didnโt get hit nearly as bad. These two encounters were probably do to the fact that we have a few bee hives in our backyard which tend to attract skunks every now and then. So, we got our pooch upstairs and straight into the bathtub. The smell was horrendous and really concentrated. It wasnโt just a glancing blow, it was a direct hit to her head area. So if youโve ever smelled concentrated skunk, itโs on a whole other level than smelling the spray from a distance. We gave her a complete shower (2xโs) and rinse with a mild dog shampoo, and then finished her off with Skunk Off. This morning I gave her the sniff test and there is a mild hint of fragrance from the Skunk Off but aside from that, nearly all of the skunk smell is gone. Without exaggeration Iโm going to say like 90-95% gone. If you went up to pet her, I doubt you would even notice anything at all. My wife has always commented about how good my sense of smell is. I could barely sleep last night from the stench as the bathroom and hallway where we bathed her (right outside our bedroom door). We still need to address the smell in those areas but all that aside, this stuff lived up to itโs name. It doesnโt mask the odors but appears to bind the scent on a molecular level. Iโve had experience with similar products from doing fire restoration work in the past. Long story short, the smell last night was horrific. And although I canโt say the same for lingering smell in our house, the dog has been cleansed! Buy it. You wonโt regret it.

Works but chemically strong
You have to spray this on very heavy and then you have to let it dry and you cannot wash it off rinse it off for it to actually get the smell off. I didnโt have any problems with the smell, but somebody that might be sensitive as a chemical smell may not like this. It does work, but it takes a lot of of it and it does have to stay on and it has to dry to actually take the skunk smell.

Good stuff
Worked great. Highly recommend for use immediately after the dog gets sprayed. Great for use while walking the dog outdoors, especially if you have to drive home. Best for initial use/contact, as it covers the sprayed area very well, and addresses the skunk spray immediately on the top fur before it can migrate to the skin and soak in. Any areas where it touched the skin, it left a mild odor. Anywhere we could wash it off the fur, no smell. I sprayed the whole bottle immediately all over the dog. Then washed her with skunk shampoo twice. Once quickly outside, then again much more thoroughly inside. This seems to have gotten 98% of it.

My go-to skunk odour removal brand.
This is the only skunk odour removal I buy. I have tried 3 different brands. My dogs have unfortunately been sprayed multiple times and they still chase after skunks. ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ One time we were out and left the back door open and they chased a skunk, ran into the house and proceeded to lie on all furniture. The whole house stunk to high heaven. Skunk-off fixed it. Another time my one dog got sprayed right in the ears, mouth and eyes. I washed all three areas with skunk off, even her mouth and scrubbed her teeth and gums. Shes still alive and she didnt smell that bad after. Skunk-off is a godsend. Tomato juice is a myth. It works on humans too.

Gets skunk odor out of dog fur and biothane gear
For the first time in my 20 years of dog ownership, my dog got skunked at midnight during a potty break. He reeked of skunk! This product was pricy and I'm on a tight budget, so I wanted to try the hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dawn soap home remedy first. That did get majority of the skunk smell out, but whenever my dog got wet, I would randomly smell a faint smell of skunk. I would describe the odor as persistent. That's when I decided to buy this. I very generously sprayed his coat down and let it sit for 10 min before I thoroughly rinsed him out. Now the last of the skunk smell is gone. My dog's biothane collar also reeked of skunk and the at home remedy didn't work. I put his collar in a cleaned plastic take out container. Then I sprayed it down with skunk out and closed the lid. 2 days later, I opened it and the smell was gone. I just rinsed off her collar and it was good as new. I was afraid I was going to have to buy new biothane gear before I tried the skunk out.
