Has the quality of this bag gone downhill? I have an old one that I have used for over a decade - it used to be fantastic.

It's still holding up for me.. Have taken it to multiple countries folded, then unfolded and full on the way home.

Will the side pockets fit adult ski boots?

No.it is a very flimsy duffel bag. Don't buy it.

how big is the top opening when you unzip the zipper

I measured the opening flap it is 21" by 17". But because it is a soft bag, it can be pulled diagonally to fit something that is bigger than 21" It is a very roomy bag. It is all soft sides so can be pulled different ways to fit whatever.
