## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the best method for applying the satin finish? I have seen that people use natural bristle brushes, foam brushes, lambswool applicators, etc.**
A: I have submitted responses to Waterlox questions many times. If used "right" it's a great product. First key is preparation. Sand but not using coarse sandpaper, use dry cloth to removing sawdust. Then I wipe again using soft cloth and paint thinner. Apply with thin coats making sure to not leave bubbles or brush marks,  sand lightly between coats. How many coats depends upon surface use and exposure. A minimum of 3 coats. I've used a variety of applicators but my favorite is a 1.5" angled brush, good bristles and clean brush b/t each coat. Hope this helps. If not ask again.

**Q: Hello.  What is coverage for 1 quart?**
A: Coverage is varies with wood type and use.  I wiped on seven coats to a butcher block counter top and two coats to the underside.  The top is 24x96.  The first couple of coats soak in,  much less needed as you apply additional layers.  I used about 3\4 of a quart.

**Q: I am building a walnut live edge dining table. I don't want the finish to be too shiny. Should I use just the satin finish or the original finish?**
A: Suggest you use the satin finish, several coats applied thinly, sand between coats and clean sand dust with a cloth dampened with thinner. For a dining table at least 4 coats, can always add more over time. A great though expensive product. Hope this helps, good luck.

**Q: can you add stain to first coat on oak?**
A: Yes you can add stain to first coat only. Directions are on waterlox website.

This oil-based sealer is actually waterproof and easy to apply. I used 3 coats on a 1 1/2" butcherblock sink surround in the kitchen. I sanded between coats with 400 grit sandpaper, and used a lint-free cloth with a small amount of paint thinner to clean off fine dust particles before applying the next coat. Dry time between coats is 24 hours. As a note:I had previously applied some food grade mineral oil to one section of the butcherblock, so I wasn't sure if the Waterlok would dry properly if applied over the mineral oil. After testing a piece of scrap, I found that the Waterlok dried very well even over the mineral oil. My only negative comment about the satin finish Waterlok is that it is a bit more yellow than I prefer, but still a great finish at a sink area. PS: I found the smell very mild!

My husband and I recently renovated our main bathroom and ordered a custom, walnut vanity. I was so worried about the beautiful wood being exposed to frequent humidity and water. I did a lot of research before purchasing this product. This stuff is worth every penny…..it was easy to apply and had just the right sheen for the look we wanted. The odor is very pungent so be sure to use it in a ventilated place or keep a window open and have a fan handy. I put on 4 coats and lightly sanded in between the first 2 coats. Well worth the investment.
