How wide will the clip open to fit a table top

3.0cm with the jaws parallel, and approx. 3.5cm max. Jaw springs are very strong, so grips well down to [effectively] 0cm. I am using it on a shelf which is around 1.5cm thick, and it provides a very secure fit. Similarly, the goose neck arm is easy to position, and stays in place once set. Hope this helps.

How many LEDs does this have?

From what I can see it looks like there are 18 individual LED's that form the strip light. It is a very good light with different shades of white light and is dimmable. I have been really pleased with mine.

No, it is not pluggable into the mains. The light should be plugged into a USB port on your laptop / computer. The light only takes 7 watts of power.

Would this be suitable for illuminating a picture of around 70x50 cm in size?

The light must be plugged into a mains adaptor using a USB cable to work. You might be better using a low energy 240V light with a conventional plug
