Multi-function Worktable

I bought this product as a Multi-Function Worktable - not as a Milling Machine. I'm drilling holes in 90 pieces of bamboo strips to construct BuckyBall models. You might recognize a BuckyBall as a soccer ball - football to some. I need precise center to center holes so that I may pin and glue the bamboo pieces together. I made a fixture that is bolted to the Milling Table of my mini-drill press. I stack the bamboo 8 high and drill an end hole. I don't move the table until I've drilled until the cows come home. When I'm ready for the other end hole, I move the table. I pin the 8 pieces with a stainless 16-gauge wire nail and drop into the first end hole that was created in my fixture with the first time I drilled down. As long as I work off of the left the end hole, the right one will be the same for all 90 pieces. I don't plan on milling anything. I could just slide my fixture on the drill press stand and achieve the same precision - but what's the fun in that? I know that working with this milling table will have other advantages. Whoops. It does. I forgot. I start with 24" bamboo strips that will be cut to 90 mm. After drilling the end hole, I have a miter saw slot that lets me cut to length - for the most part. After gluing, the end will be cut, anyway, so the precision lies in the center to center hole distance of 70 mm. I've drilled, cut, re-positioned the table, and drilled the other end - to the tune of 450 pieces. I can find no fault for what I needed this "drill press attachment" to accomplish - playing with my balls. I really like my balls. They will be personalized and given to some special people who appreciate my balls and know how much pleasure I take in making them. The attached picture shows "proof of concept" with my little balls and a GIANT ball that is waiting for me to return and massage it into place.

Very good quality, lacks precision

This is a great value for money. It all works as you would expect for a product in this price range. It is a reasonably well engineered product. It does however have tolerance issues and would not be suitable for metal routing. This is good for lighter work but even so, lacks the accuracy for precision parts. Bottom line: Value for money, great for hobbyist.

Great functionality in an inexpensive tool

This little work table is a great value. If you take care and don't horse it, it should be great for small projects. I bought a drill stand to use with it, and it didn't quite line up to attach it with 4 bolts. I got 3 to line up, which should be enough. Not sure whether that's the fault of the table or the press. I lubricated the desk augers to reduce wear and friction. One problem was that one of the tapped holes on a project clamp did not match the bolts supplied. I had to retap the hole. But otherwise, for the price, I give it 5 stars. Hopefully it holds up.

Way better than...

What I was lead to believe from reading many of these reviews. Mine is firm and had no wobble or wiggle in it and was easily adjusted. Unit was fully assembled minus that handles which took all of 2 minutes. The clamping brackets that came with it are a joke but that's easily remedied with a simple drill vice. Seems to hold it's settings during use and the movement controls are kinda clunky feeling but move just fine and without any binding or excess play. I'm not doing ultra precision work but this little thing is easily as accurate as I need it to be and more.

The quality is just average.

Just received this little milling machine and the first thing I noticed is the directions are all in chinese. Next, the quality of the build is a little suspect. The aluminum carriage on top does not snug up evenly with the green cast iron base. The top edges of the aluminum are quite sharp and the alignment of the aluminum carriage to the base is off (left to right, etc), producing/leaving sharp edges. I filed them down after ripping a finger. The craftsmanship is about average at best. The traverse of the carriage is/appears normal and the readouts also appear ok/accurate. Things like the handles and stops are not top quality, but average and ok. Overall, the materials used to build this machine appear ok and likely durable. The accuracy, so far, appears pretty good. My problem is that the unit appears to have been "production" slapped together, too quickly. For jobs that don't require close tolerances, this machine should perform ok. Not sure I am going to trust it just yet on milling the body cavity of a bass guitar build. Just a little more TLC on the build of this would have produced likely a top notch machine. It may still perform, but now has some file marks, battle scars on the edge of carriage. It arrived super quick, and that makes me a little concerned as well. A 3 rating is as good as I can recommend now. Performance could be 4 or 5 down the road, but the chassis needs a little help before I put her into production in my wood shop.
