I have a real ten inch pan (photo) and yes, this lid is slightly small. It is heavy. And handle a little low to base, difficult to use a pot holder, to grip handle. DON'T USE WITHOUT ONE! You'll burn your hand.I didn't even try that.But, it is a nice lid. Heavy, cleans easily.Can be used in larger pan as that bacon grill iron . And cut down grease splatter.Versatile. Can be left right on your cast iron pan/pot and put into oven for warming, reheating.Cost? I don't know how to determine costs of cast iron cooking items, I would guess it depends on company name. So you have to shop around, find a company you like.My first set was Martha Stewart( poor thing needed help getting back on her feet after her little jail stint) I like it. But didn't come with a lid.This can be used with that set.Nice thing is lid is basically flat and will sit over any same size or smaller iron pan. It doesn't have to fit perfect. So this 10" can fit on 10" , 8 or even 5" pan. It sinks inside of my 10 inch cast iron pan.
