the only way to know if you're storing food properly...
this unit is well built and fulfills it's purpose perfectly. it is easy to read and has idiot-proof markings of proper cold and frozen food storage temperatures. having worked in food service within the military, i can't overstate how important a thermometer is in your cold storage areas. how else do you know you're food is being stored correctly? you don't...unless you have thermometers. i found that the temp in my refrigerator was not where it should be...it was too warm by almost 10 degrees! after turning the setting up a notch, everything was A-OK. without a thermometer, i would never have known and would have had to rely on the recommended manufacturer settings for the refrigerator (which is a bad idea). even if your fridge has a built-in digital thermometer, you should still have a thermometer that lives in there, as all electronic devices eventually fail or give false readings. these alcohol based units are also far more accurate and reliable than the dial-type ones, which invariably fail within a short amount of time. this one is built to be pretty tough, as thermometers get dropped all the time in the industry, and perhaps even at home, depending upon where and how you decide to mount it. this is a quality NSF approved thermometer and well worth the money.

Easy to read small thermometer
I keep it in the refer and sometimes the freezer to keep tabs on the temps. It's easy to read and is accurate since I check it's reading with another device. It's just a simple thermometer that works.

GOOD VALUE
I selected this thermometer because it is the same manufacturer and model that they buy from the source and use in the expensive supermarkets chain I go to (PUBLIX). They use these for all of the frozen food freezers. I thought if they buy thousands of them for all of their stores, they are good enough for me! I did not buy it for a freezer. I bought it for camping outdoors in the winter where I am and where the mornings of Dec. and Jan. are usually 40-60 degrees. It seems to work good for that purpose at a cheap price. Another thing that impressed me when I examined them at the grocery supermarket is that stock clerks "bang" boxes and products into them often and they do not break, so they must be very durable for me to use outside for camping. I can read them reasonably good. I cannot speak about accuracy. I have not tested them. However, once again the supermarket buys them as (1st quality product).

Refrigerator/freezer thermometer
What can I say about a thermometer? It works!

Works and is very accurate
This unit is far more accurate than the ones that rely on the metal coil in the back of the unit. I have tried both and have gone back to nothing but the glass tube kind like this. Easy to read face with prominent lines and numbers. The metal feet on the back allow you to hang it from the rack or tray, but when hanging from the metal wire the face points downward (due to gravity) and makes it hard to read. So we just set it on the shelf and works just fine. I recommend keeping this away from the door seals, for that area is not the temp of the fridge. Place it dead center in the fridge or in the place of the fridge where there are items you really care about.

compact and accurate
Like others, I bought these devices to monitor interior fridge and freezer temps, and to ensure that the digital display temperatures on the fridge were accurate. In my case, the display is on the frame, inside the fridge---door must be open to see the display and adjust the controls. My displays proved to be accurate, requiring little to no tweaking of controls (which are digital buttons, not dials). For fridges with dial controls, these devices are a must. I knew in advance that the clips would be of little use in attaching the device. The fridge section has glass shelves and plastic bins. There is no surface narrow enough to deploy the clips. I simply stow the thermometer in a door bin and view as needed. While the freezer has wire bins and shelves, using the clips would only put the thermometer in the way of food, and decrease storage space. So I simply stow it in a door bin and view as needed by pulling it out and glancing at it quickly. Where I found it most useful to have a thermometer is in the "meat keeper" bin in the fridge. This is a low temp storage bin that has a connection to the freezer via a vent. A mechanical control slides to open or close (or partly open) the vent to regulate the temperature, by regulating air flow from the freezer. The ideal temperature is 32-33 F, at which meat will keep for a week or more. You can also do a "soft freeze" at 30-31F which makes it last even longer. The sliding control is very temperamental and usually I'd make it too cold (solid freeze) because I didn't have an accurate thermometer. Now I can use the thermometer to help me regulate the drawer temperature to a steady 32-33F.

NOT RETURNABLE!!! BEWARE!!!
It's a shame I can't return these. Beware of fine print! I became too comfortable with Amazon's return policies. They are difficult to hang on a shelf. I received 1 of the 4 with a different clip. None fit my freezer shelves or fridge. Very disappointing.

Comparison of Taylor 5925N and CDN FG80 Thermometers
I bought four refrigerator/freezer thermometers to measure my kitchen and garage refrigerator/freezers. I bought two each of the Taylor 5925 and the CDN FG80 models. It wasn’t clear to me from the reviews why I should prefer one over the other. The thermometers are nearly identical in size and construction. The CDN FG80 covers a slightly wider temperature range 80° F on the high end vs 74° F for the Taylor, and -40° F vs. -28° F on the low end. Unless you are measuring something colder or warmer than the usual freezer or refrigerator, this is an advantage for the Taylor thermometer, since the markings for the interesting temperature range are correspondingly larger. The Taylor range is -34 C to + 30 C. The CDN range is -50 C to + 34 C. Accuracy seemed not to be a factor. I compared all four units at room temperature and in the refrigerator, and they all agreed to within a degree or so. I did the ice water test with a sample of each model. A mixture of ice and water that has reached equilibrium will be at 0 C or 32 F. I put the thermometers (one at a time) in a plastic zip lock bag, and immersed the bulb end in ice water for 15 minutes. They both read 34 F. This may be due to experimental error, since the entire thermometer was not immersed, and there was some air in the bag. This was a big improvement over my old dial-and-pointer thermometer which I threw away after it was off by over 10 degrees F in the same test. There is a narrow viewing angle at which the red temperature line is greatly magnified and easy to read. This seemed about the same on both models. I liked the brightly colored temperature zones on the Taylor 5925N. They both have metal clips on the back. The Taylor also has suction cups which can fit on the clips. The CDN clips are tight against the back of the thermometer. I had to bend them out with pliers to hang on a wire basket in one case, and to make it stand upright on a flat surface in the other case. I don’t see how you could ever mount the CDN without bending those or using something else to attach it. I considered attaching it with wire ties. The clips on the Taylor are more useful. In one case, it clipped onto the front edge of a wire shelf. In the other case, I used the suction cups. When I bought these, the Taylor was about a dollar less. The Taylor 5925N would be my pick for a freezer/refrigerator thermometer.

Great Little Thermometer
I use this for the garage freezer. Nice small size. Very accurate, -18C, exactly the same compared to another thermometer.
