## Description

Product Description As a half round phosphor bronze acoustic guitar set, Flat Tops are designed to significantly reduce unwanted finger noise. Combining tried-and-true phosphor bronze tone with a smoother feel and quieter playing experience, they’re excellent for recording—and slide guitar playing. Flat Tops are made with a high carbon steel core and phosphor bronze wrap wire, which is then precision ground and polished, leaving behind a semi-flat string with a smooth feel and beautifully balanced tone. 12-53 Light gauge strings are our most popular acoustic gauge, providing a nice balance of playability and tone. From the Manufacturer EFT16 Flat Top strings combine D'Addario's popular light gauging with an exclusive precision polishing process for a smoother, quieter playing surface. Great for recording or slide playing.D'Addario Flat Tops are round wound, then precision ground, leaving the outer surface smooth and "semi-flat." This produces a smooth, flattened playing surface, but does not sacrifice the superb tone and sustain associated with phosphor bronze strings. Flat Tops greatly reduce finger noise and are excellent for recording and flat-picking.D'Addario, the world's largest manufacturer of musical instrument strings, is known as The Players Choice with a reputation for unsurpassed quality and consistency. D'Addario's innovative packaging reduces waste and provides protection from corrosion. All D'Addario strings are manufactured in the U.S.A. using proprietary, digitally controlled, state-of-the-art machinery for unmatched performance, set after set.

Review: Definitely quieter strings - I've used Earnie ball strings for years and have been happy with them on electric guitar, but for some reason, they were not holding up on the acoustic. The G and D strings would fall apart after a few weeks of playing. Also, I was getting a lot of unwanted string noise when recording. So far, the D'addario strings are holding up well and are much quieter when doing slides or moving up and down the neck between chords. In my opinion, they are worth the $
Review: nice for old hands. the kids like 'am too. - Semi flat acoustic strings that feel like electric strings, yet still sound like my old Hummingbird should. finger squeak is reduced and I can cover the fretboard as well as on the Paul when I use these. I won't go back.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: My old fingers cant manage heavier gage strings anymore. anybody happy with "extra lights" 10-47's ? is the ease of play worth the loss in tone?**
A: You might try silk and phosphor 11- 47. They play easily while maintaining the more traditional tone. .115 - 47 silk and steel play well but are very mellow tonally. Alot has to do with the guitar itself and of course personal preference. Additionally, you may have to set the guitar up again. The strings will ride slightly lower in the saddle and nut. And they will not pull the neck as much. No easy way other than trial and error. I have 17 acoustics and have tried several sets on each guitar before settling on what I like on that particular guitar. Only 2 of the 17 uses the same strings. Good luck.

**Q: Anyone using these for fingerstyle blues? What do you think of them?**
A: I only play fingerstyle, and I play blues, jazz, pop...I LOVE these strings. If you're not plugged in you may notice a little less volume. Nothing drastic. They sound a bit more "warm." Slides are sweet. They're not that expensive. (I have used another brand that cost something like $30. They are a little nicer, but I can't afford that luxury all the time.) Try a set. Your fingers will thank you.

**Q: Is the core in of the d'addario eft15 round core?**
A: Down in the product details at the bottom of the page -- "D'Addario Phosphor Bronze strings are precision wound with corrosion-resistant phosphor bronze onto a carefully drawn, hexagonally shaped, high carbon steel core. "

Note the "hexagonally shaped, high carbon steel core" so NOT a round core.

**Q: Wait a second, the title for the item is flattened, the description page says roundwound, and one of the answers says they are halfwound. Which is it?**
A: They are flattened. Flat round is a different type of string. Basically its like the small humps of the round string are ground down .

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Definitely quieter strings

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ nice for old hands. the kids like 'am too.
*by N***R on July 26, 2025*

Semi flat acoustic strings that feel like electric strings, yet still sound like my old Hummingbird should. finger squeak is reduced and I can cover the fretboard as well as on the Paul when I use these. I won't go back.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reliable sound with less squeak
*by D***N on March 10, 2024*

I previously used Phosphor Bronze strings (usually D'Addario) or Silk & Steel (D'Addario, Martin, LaBella). I wanted something that was brighter than Silk & Steel but could still reduce string squeak while recording. So far, these strings have fit the bill. I play mostly fingerstyle (with finger tips, rarely with nails) on a 000-sized Martin guitar. And I usually record it with an LDC. These flat tops have reduced the amount of slide noises to a more hospitable level. I've gone through several sets of these strings and I've yet to encounter any quality control issues. No string breaks or unraveling. If you want to close mic an acoustic guitar without all the extra finger squeaks, then give these a try.
