La Costena Green Tomatillos, 28 oz

I usually buy the raw ones, but this ones save me the work and it taste great. It worth the money

Tomatillos have a tart, slightly cirtusy flavor which works well in pork and chicken dishes in particular. Here are a couple of my quick and easy recipes showing how to do this. I combine 1 drained can of La Costena Tomatillos with 1 Cup of chicken broth, 1/2 Cup chopped onions, 1/2 teaspoon cumin and 1/4 teaspoon Mexican oregano in a large saucepan over medium heat. Mash the whole tomatillos a little bit. At this point you can reduce the sauce by half, stirring occasional 10-15 minutes then adding 2 to 3 Cups of cooked, shredded chicken, such as rotissere style. Let that blend a few minutes and serve as a filling for tacos, enchiladas or tamales. Since the tomatillos are not spicy you can add spices or salsa to your preferred heat level.For pork chili verde I make the same recipe as above, not reducing the sauce but adding 2 to 3 Cups cubed roast pork shoulder instead of chicken and 2 Cups green enchilada sauce. Allow this mixture to simmer 20 minutes and serve over rice, with beans and corn tortillas on the side. Super easy to work with, a time saver with great taste. 5 full stars.

These are delicious in green sauces. I use them in a recipe for Taco Bell Green Taco Sauce which they have not made in years.

It's a perfect size for a meal to feed four people. It blends well and the taste is authentic. I love the easy open system.

I love salsa and green salsa is my favorite. I prefer to go to the supermarket and pick up the best looking fresh tomatillos and roast them or boil them, or just toss them in the blender raw along with the peppers, onion, and garlic depending on what I'm making for dinner. Like any fresh produce, fresh has a short shelf life, so I figured these would be good for emergencies. I'll note that I prefer to use canned tomatillos and peppers to make a quick salsa than resort to the pre-made bottled Mexican style salsas.I've used these a few times already when I wanted to make a quick salsa and hadn't planned on it. Every time I use a can, I buy another one to have on hand for the next time. Just like all other canned food, it's never going to be as good as fresh, but I was pleasantly surprised and will continue to buy them.

The tomatillo's are ready to use in recipes. The skins are thin and don't need to be removed. I especially like to add them to shredded chicken. Add beans and it's a one pot meal. I wish they were available in smaller cans. The 28 oz. can is suitable for a family meal but too much for 1-2 people. Delicious and versatile.

Fresh tomatillos are nice but I found the cleaning of this vegetable (it is actually a fruit but that is for another discussion) to be a task, with the removal of the stem, peeling of the outer skin, rinsing of the slimy surface, etc.These canned tomatillos were perfect in appearance and had excellent flavor. Recommended.

Cans are quite dented but I'm sure the product is still good. It's a good product it's just been mishandled.

Nice well preserved tomatillos for the Texas-Mexico style salsa. Reliable manufacturer and familiar flavors. Would buy again and would recommend.

El sabor es bueno.. para ser de lata. Se mantienen firmes no pochos o aguados.Me vinieron 13 tomatillos. De buen tamañoProbé por encima uno y si .. sabe a sal.. lo indica en la lata.Pero no supo a sal como tal...En la comida que yo hice los ultilice para hacer Pozole verde.Y el sabor bien.. el pozole quedó muy bien.. para usar productos que no hay aquí en España.
