Review: An innovative, inspiring, and beautiful book - Deborah Stewart's book drew me in with its thought provoking prose and its compelling and dramatic artwork. Her technical examples and explanations were spot on. As a painter, myself, this is a book worth keeping, not only referring to from time to time. I congratulate her for writing an innovative, inspiring, and motivational book. Another plus--it's informative! Review: Excellent content ... too bad about its readability - 38 pages in: This is a beautiful book with excellent content. Unfortunately, the designers decided to use a colored ink and smaller fonts which makes it very difficult to read ... impossible in the evenings when I do the bulk of my reading. Eye strain and a headache after two pages. I feel bad for the artist/author. 5 stars for content so far/1 star for the designers. What were they thinking?

This was a nice art book to read and I rarely read art ...
This was a nice art book to read and I rarely read art books, I just buy them for inspirational pictures of art. Debora Stewart's words were helpful. I have been painting abstractly for years but it has always felt more stressful than I think it should. Her ideas and suggestions have been helpful in making my painting practice less stressful and more intuitive and honest. I bought the kindle version. My complaint with that version is that while I can change the size of the print I can not change the size of the artwork and so all of Debora Stewart's lovely work is shown in a small thumbnail size on my tablet. She does beautiful work and I would have liked to seen the examples larger and in more detail. My one suggestion to Ms. Stewart is that she expands her own color palette, she does love her oranges and purples and they are in every one of her examples. Her work is very distinctive due to her palette so I recognize it anywhere. If you want to see larger examples of her work you will have to go to her website and Pinterest. I do think this book would be useful for anyone starting out with abstract work or for artists who want to gain more enjoyment and freedom with their abstract work. This book does not do example projects in a step by step fashion so that you end up creating a piece just like the artist's which I think is not the point of abstract art, instead you learn steps toward making your own artwork. Thank you Ms. Stewart

An excellent book!
It had detailed descriptions of abstracts and how to do them. Her book included how to paint various compositions with the use of acrylics, oils and pastals for paper and canvases. She also shows demonstrations from start to finish which you can follow and do. She is an excellent the thorough teacher as I took an online course with her a few years ago.

Find out about abstract art in a book written by a pro.
This book has long been needed for abstract art painters. The author clearly and with a lot of pictures, explains what an artist needs to know - whether the reader is a beginner or a seasoned professional. The book has lots of colored examples of abstract art to give the reader both an insight as to possibilities and give the reader food for thought as to what they might do to create abstract art. All in all it's a great book!

The author presents a nice blend of instruction
I am absolutely loving this book! The author presents a nice blend of instruction, tips and helpful exercises for more the more intuitive aspects. I found the sections on creating charcoal reference sketches and underpainting most helpful. Is this book for absolute beginners? Not really. But if you have at least some experience and want to learn more about creating abstract compositions, this book is a worthy addition to your collection.

If you could only choose a single art book - this would be it!
Absolutely one of the very best books I have read on Art and How To do it. Her way of explaining how she thinks about creating abstract art, and what she does to bring the idea into reality is fantastic. And the illustrations are outstanding. I would read a small section - and then starting thinking about how I could apply it to my work. Then another day, I would read a little more. And even now, I pick it up and gain new insight into the process of creating Abstract Art at least once a day. Other artists I have shared the book with are equally impressed...and they hope to get a copy of the book for our Art League lending library.

Great content, disappointing quality
Borrowed this book from the library and loved the content- it includes beautiful artwork and step-by-step process projects. However when I received my order, I immediately noticed the book was substantially lighter and thinner than the library copy. Fortunately I still had the library copy to compare. Same book, same number of pages, just lower weight and quality pages- almost more like a magazine than a book. My photos show how significantly different they are. I returned the book. Very disappointing.

Libro illustrativo tecniche astratte

Love this book
Love this book, Debora is so very clear on her explanations of creating pastel abstract art from personal drawings inspired by nature etc but taken to a very creative level by letting your intuition guide you. It's definitely one I will reread and reference continually.
