Great pen, don't feel like I'm missing much compared to more expensive versions
I chose this model with the special alloy nib due to the value compared to gold nib options, plus I liked the yellow color which was not available in other models. If desired, I can buy the gold nib later on its own and this combination would come out at a similar price compared to buying the gold nib version directly, but with an extra nib to show for it. The pen is very convenient and easy to use, and does not seem to dry out when unused (though I've been using it often enough that I haven't gone more than a couple of days between uses.) I have also used a clone of this model (Jinhao 10) and definitely prefer the Pilot. In my opinion the difference in price is worth the increase in quality. We live in a desert region and have very low humidity, so pens drying out happens but isn't something I've seen with the Pilot. I do find that the barrel can be a bit slick with very dry fingers. The clip doesn't get in the way for my pen grip, which is a pretty standard grip. It is comfortable to use and has some weight to it, which feels nice in the hand. At the end of the day it is very convenient and satisfying to be able to click the button and be ready to go or to retract the nib while I am pausing for thought without having to worry about the pen drying out. It is very functional and convenient, while delivering a quality writing experience.

THE PEN OF A LIFETIME
For me, the concept of "ideal fountain pen" depends on four factors. Two pre purchase ones: design and price (if someone tells me that I pay 75 EUROS and have such a high quality pen delivered from Japan to my door, I think they are kidding me). The other two are post purchase: durability and nib performance (unlike the whole bunch of plastic-to-resin made Pelikans, Montblancs...this pen just won't crack if you drop it a hundred times; besides, the nib is so smooooooth that the paper underneath feels like an ice surface). To cap it all,I would add an extra fifth factor: usefulness. Yes, guys: quick notes are inherent to our lifestyle, and you know how unnerving it is to have to post/unpost for just a few words. Push the button once and get the nib in/out instantly. This pen of a lifetime synthesizes the Japanese ethos: beautiful, realiable, functional, and accurately finished. Visit JAPAN WALKER's store and see the wide variety of colours: you'll be blown away.

Just get it!
Iโve had this saved in my wish list for over two years and bought it for myself in June 2025: itโs amazing. Fantastic quality, very good/traditional fine Japanese nib (like a European โEFโ). The nib is not gold (just gold plated), but I have a vintage Pilot with a fine 14k nib and my hands arenโt sensitive enough to discern any difference between the two. Iโve traveled with it and use it as an everyday driver; couldnโt be happier with the performance, even on crummy-quality paper. My only advice: get the squeeze converter (con-70 [?]), not the other one. I tried both and the twist converter is terrible.

Somewhat disappointed
I just had to find out. I had the overwhelming need to compare a Vanishing Point to the Moon Man retractable fountain pen. These pens have the exact same quirks, leaks, clunks, everything. They're all fine point nibs. One Moon Man is exceptionally smooth. The other Moon Man is scratchy and hard starting. The Pilot VP starts and writes well, but is scratchy, even for a fine point. I'm gonna keep it because the body color is awesome. But to me, it doesn't feel like a Pilot.

Great pen
This is my go-to everyday pen. I love it, works great all the time, easy to pull out and jot down notes at any time. Nib is smooth, no problems.
