True to the description, there are only a few light wear marks on the back and inside of the case that you can barely see so I feel it is accurately "like new." I will probably put that much wear or more on it with just a few days in my purse.It is quite thin and lightweight for a cover. I thought the leather would be heavier, but it's not. However, the surface is very smooth and nice to touch. They really did a good job making sure they wouldn't add excess size and weight to the kindle. Part of the appeal of this model kindle is that it's so light and easy to carry with you. It's not ruggedly made so it won't survive rough handling, but I bought this just to survive rides in my backpack and my purse as I commute, or splashes of food and water as I eat while reading. The cover will also help protect the screen in case my cat steps on it. Because it's made by Amazon and custom fitted, the buttons are all exposed perfectly flush with the case so that it's almost like you're not even holding a case. As far as I'm concerned, now that my kindle is in there, it's never coming out!I do agree that $40 is quite a lot for a case that doesn't have a closure or light. However, I am VERY pleased and satisfied that I bought mine used from ExpressMedia for quite a bit less which is why I'm giving it 5 stars. Would I consider this worth $40? No. But I definitely think it's worth $25 or less. Not big enough to bother me and I’m very picky. The frame is rubberized plastic. The cover doesn’t want to shut all the way, (about an 1/8 if an inch) but I think in time the leather will soften. If not, I’ll just dampen it at the bend and that should work.(without the kindle in it) No, it won’t stay closed on its own, but it will fit nicely in my purse without taking up too much room.
