Such a simple item yet it spawns many ideas.
It does light the sidewall of the fiber, but it will need a little additional roughing up on the exterior to get a bit more intensity. For power, I simply soldered the light source to a 12 volt "Wall Wart" of adequate current via the included "SM-2P" pigtail. The light engine does get warm, so any long term mounting should be to material that can draw heat out of the Aluminum body to help keep the LED cooler.

DO NOT BUY
Since there is no available power supply it makes this virtually impossible to use. I bought two of these and both of them broke instantly when I tried to apply an external power source.
